A novel battery consisted of Zn/ZnO anode with polymer binders has been developed by the direct mixing method. The influence of PANI on the performances of Zn/ZnO anode surfaces has been studied using cyclic voltammetry, Tafel polarization, and Impedance studies. The additions of PANI have not formed any coatings on Zn/ZnO anodes. However, a thin layer of PANI has formed. XRD studies revealed that influence of PANI on the Zn/ZnO anodes had not shown any significant changes in the hexagonal phase. SEM images confirmed that Zn's dendrite structure is prevented by polymers such as PVP, PVA, and microemulsion of castor oil. The impedance studies have demonstrated that there is a reduction in Rct values accounted for enhanced conductance of Zn/ZnO anodes.

Photovoltaic material plays a vital role in the production of energy storage devices, more specifically in solar cell fabrications. In this work, ITO:F-doped materials were coated over the silicon substrate through spray pyrolysis technique. X-ray diffraction studies were conducted for porous silicon (PSi) coated with ITO:F structures formed at different current densities. This pore formation is evident from the broad peak at 69.9°, revealing an amorphous-like nature but at the same location where the single crystalline peak also is observed. These pores are explicitly shown in the SEM images in which very fine surface fragments are observed. At 20 mA/cm2, well-defined porous patterns that were uniformly distributed over the surface were observed. The microstructures observed via atomic force microscopy for these PSi coated with ITO:F structures are randomly aligned and almost evenly distributed over the entire surface of these nanorods, which are approximately 40 nm. Radiative recombination of electrons from a level in the conduction band or its subband to a level at an energy difference of greater than 1.7 eV in the valance band or its subband will emit visible light.

Due to the increase in the frequency of fires due to the mass distribution of energy storage devices, following the introduction and operation of eco-friendly power generation facilities around the world, there is an urgent need to analyze the causes of such fires and to devise countermeasures against them. By analyzing the occurrence of ESS fires and reviewing the definition of ESS terminology, we intend to suggest some safety measures against ESS fires by understanding the related facilities and analyzing the causes. We would also like to propose new measures to prevent the spread of ESS fires. ESS fires occur most frequently during the discharge standby period after charging is completed in connected solar and wind power facilities. In addition, when we investigated the problems with the batteries, PCS manufacturing, ESS design, installation and construction, and the factors related to their usage and operation, we found such causes of fire as battery system defects, unsatisfactory protection systems against electrical shock, improper operations and environmental management, careless installations, and a lack of ESS integrated management systems. Therefore, a new approach is needed through the application of new technologies and safety measures including manufacturing standards, installation standards, operation and management standards, and firefighting standards for the purpose of ensuring the safety of these facilities and their operations, in order to prevent ESS fire accidents and the spread of fire.

Nanocrystalline coating electrodes, also named thin-film electrodes, have received more and more research interest in electrical energy storage devices because the thin-film electrode enhanced its conductivity leading to facilitate electron transfer, and avoid the use of polymer binders and conductive agent. Here, we review the progress and challenge of synthesizing thin-film electrodes as well as their specific electroactivities for Li-ion batteries and supercapacitors. Nanostructured metal oxide thin film with targeted physical properties directly grown on a metal substrate is also summarized. To fully exploit thin-film electrodes, the optimization of crystallization processes and electrochemical properties of coating or film are important for the development of highly active thin-film energy storage devices.

AbstractLithium intercalted carbon nanotubes have attracted considerable interest as perspective components for energy storage devices. We performed 13C Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spin lattice relaxation measurements in a temperature range from 4 K up to 300 on alkali intercalated Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes in order to investigate the modifications of the electronic properties. The density of states at the Fermi level were determined for pristine, lithium and cesium intercalated carbon nanotubes and are discussed in terms of intercalation and charge transfer effects.

<p>Owing to highly conductive solid ionic conductors, all-solid-state batteries attract significant attention as promising next-generation energy storage devices. A lot of research is invested in the search and optimization of solid electrolytes with higher ionic conductivity. However, a systematic study of an <i>interlaboratory reproducibility</i> of measured ionic conductivities and activation energies is missing, making the comparison of absolute values in literature challenging. In this study, we perform an uncertainty evaluation via a Round Robin approach using different Li-argyrodites exhibiting orders of magnitude different ionic conductivities as reference materials. Identical samples are distributed to different research laboratories and the conductivities and activation barriers are measured by impedance spectroscopy. The results show large ranges of up to 4.5 mScm-1 in the measured total ionic conductivity (1.3 – 5.8 mScm-1 for the highest conducting sample, relative standard deviation 35 – 50% across all samples) and up to 128 meV for the activation barriers (198 – 326 meV, relative standard deviation 5 – 15%, across all samples), presenting the necessity of a more rigorous methodology including further collaborations within the community and multiplicate measurements.</p>
