An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during June to December 2014 with a view to finding out the effect of variety and level of nitrogen on the yield performance of fine aromatic rice. The experiment consisted of three varieties viz. Kalizira, Binadhan-13 and BRRI dhan34, and six levels of nitrogen viz. 0, 30, 60, 90 kg N ha-1, USG 1.8 g 4 hills-1 (55 kg N ha-1) and USG 2.7 g 4 hills-1 (80 kg N ha-1). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Variety, level of nitrogen and their interaction significantly influenced the yield of aromatic rice. The highest grain yield (3.33 t ha-1) was obtained from Binadhan-13 followed by BRRI dhan34 (3.16 t ha-1) and the lowest grain yield was found in Kalizira (2.11 t ha-1). In case of N, the tallest plant (140.3 cm), highest number of effective tillers hill-1 (11.40), grains panicle-1 (152.8), and grain yield (3.32 t ha-1) were obtained when fertilized with USG 1.8 g 4 hills-1 and the lowest values were found in 0 kg N ha-1. Therefore, Binadhan-13 fertilized with USG 1.8 g 4 hills-1 (55 kg N ha-1) appeared as the promising practice for appreciable grain yield.J. Environ. Sci. & Natural Resources, 9(1): 41-45 2016

An investigation was carried out at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University to inspect the effect of vermicompost based nitrogen management and plant spacing on the yield performance of short duration transplant Aus rice (cv. Parija). The study comprised three spacing viz. 20 cm × 20 cm, 20 cm × 15 cm and 20 cm × 10 cm, and five nitrogen management viz. no nitrogen, 75 kg N ha-1, 55 kg N ha-1 + vermicompost @1.25 t ha-1, 35 kg N ha-1 + vermicompost @2.5 t ha-1 and vermicompost @5 t ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. At harvest, both the spacing of 20 cm × 20 cm and 20 cm × 15 cm produced the tallest plants, the highest number of total tillers hill-1 and effective tillers hill-1. The highest grain yield (3.59 t ha-1) was recorded in 20 cm × 15 cm spacing which was at par with the grain yield (3.52 t ha-1) in 20 cm × 10 cm spacing. The 20 cm × 10 cm spacing also produced the highest straw yield (4.88 t ha-1) and biological yield (8.40 t ha-1). The lowest grain, straw and biological yields were recorded at the wider spacing of 20 cm × 20 cm. In contrast, the highest grain yield (3.79 t ha-1), straw yield (4.99 t ha-1) and biological yield (8.79 t ha-1) were found in 75 kg N ha-1 which was as good as the yields of 55 kg N ha-1 N+ vermicompost @1.25 t ha-1. The highest number of total tillers hill-1 (14.11) and effective tillers hill-1 (12.67) were found in the interaction effect of 20 cm × 20 cm spacing with 75 kg N ha-1. The interaction between 20 cm × 15 cm and 55 kg N ha-1 N+ vermicompost @1.25 t ha-1 gave the highest grain yield (4.58 t ha-1), straw yield (5.71 t ha-1) and biological yield (10.29 t ha-1). The lowest grain yield (2.03 t ha-1), straw yield (3.49 t ha-1) and biological yield (5.52 t ha-1) were found in the interaction between 20 cm × 20 cm and no nitrogen. Therefore, usage of 20 cm × 15 cm spacing fertilized with 55 kg N ha-1 + vermicompost @1.25 t ha-1 appeared as the promising practice of transplant Aus rice cv. (Parija) cultivation.

The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh to investigate the influence of plant nutrient management on the yield performance of transplant Aman rice. The experiment comprised two Aman rice varieties viz. Binadhan-15 and Binadhan-16, and ten nutrient management viz. Recommended dose of inorganic fertilizer (RDF) Urea-TSP-MoP-Gypsum-ZnSO4 @ 150-110-70-60-5 kg ha-1, Cowdung @ 10 t ha-1, Poultry manure @ 5 t ha-1, Vermicompost @ 3 t ha-1 , 25% less than RDF + cowdung @ 5 t ha-1, 50% less than RDF + cowdung @ 10 t ha-1 , 25% less than RDF + poultry manure @ 2.5 t ha-1, 50% less than RDF + poultry manure @ 5 t ha-1, 25% less than RDF + vermicompost @ 1.5 t ha-1, 50% less than RDF + vermicompost @ 3 t ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Binadhan-15 produced taller plants (97.86 cm), effective tillers hill-1 (6.28), grains panicle-1 (101.73), higher grain (3.58 t ha-1) and straw (4.99 t ha-1) yields compared to Binadhan-16. In case of nutrient management, 50% less than RDF + poultry manure @ 5 t ha-1 produced taller plants (101.1 cm), effective tillers hill-1 (7.07), grains panicle-1 (105.1) and grain yield (4.08 t ha-1). The highest grain yield (4.25 t ha-1) was recorded in Binadhan-15 fertilized with 50% less than RDF + poultry manure @ 5 t ha-1 and the lowest grain yield (2.28 t ha-1) was obtained in Binadhan-16 fertilized with vermicompost @ 3 t ha-1. So, it can be concluded that transplant Aman rice cv. Binadhan-15 fertilized with 50% less than RDF + poultry manure @ 5 t ha-1 appears as the promising practice to obtain the highest grain yield.

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from July to December 2012 to observe the effect of variety, age of tiller seedling used for transplanting and nitrogen management on the yield performance of transplant Aman rice. The experiment consisted of two varieties viz. BRRI dhan49 and BRRI dhan51, two ages tiller seedling viz. 25- and 35-day old, five nitrogen management viz. control (no urea), application of prilled urea @ 215 kg ha-1 (1/2 at 15 DAT+1/2 at 30 DAT), prilled urea @ 215 kg ha-1 (1/3 at 15DAT+1/3 at 30DAT+1/3 at 45DAT ), urea super granules (USG) 1.8 g and USG 2.7 g four-hill-1 in every alternate row. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. The results revealed that higher plant characters, straw yield and harvest index were obtained from BRRI dhan49 compared to BRRI dhan51. Older seedlings (35-day old) produced higher grain yield to younger seedlings. The highest yield contributing characters and grain yield were obtained when 1.8g USG was applied. The grain yield was highest in 35-day old tiller seedlings of BRRI dhan51 while fertilized with 1.8g USG. This value was lowest when 25-day old tiller seedlings of BRRI dhan51 were fertilized with prilled urea in two split applications. It may be concluded that 35-day tiller seedlings of BRRI dhan51 fertilized with USG 1.8 g four-hill-1 could be used for achieving higher yield of transplant Aman rice. The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh during the period from July to October 2016 to study the effect of age of seedling on the yield and yield contributing characters of short duration Aman rice cultivars. The study consisted two factor A: Variety- three- i)    BINA dhan7 (V1),   (ii) BRRI dhan56 (V2) and (iii)  BRRI dhan62 (V3); and factor B: Number of seedlings hill-1- (i)   Single seedling  hill-1 (S1), (ii)  Two seedlings  hill-1 (S2) and (iii) Three seedlings  hill-1 (S3). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The highest grain yield was obtained from the cultivar BINA dhan7 which was statistically identical with BRRI dhan56 and this was the consequences of higher number of total and effective tillers hiil-1 and highest number of grains panicle-1. Grain yield was not significantly affected by the number of seedlings hill-1 but numerically the highest grain yield was recorded from single seedling hill-1. From the interaction it is observed that grain yield was not significantly affected by the interaction of cultivar and number of seedlings hill-1. But numerically the highest grain yield was recorded from the interaction of BRRI dhan56 × single seedling hill-1. From the economic analysis it is observed that the highest BCR (1.64) was recorded from single seedling hill-1 in BRRI dhan56 which was close to single seedling hill-1 in BINA dhan7 and the lowest BCR (103) was obtained from two seedlings hill-1 in BRRI dhan62. From the results of the study it may be concluded that BRRI dhan56 with single seedling hill-1 might be cultivated in AEZ-9 for obtaining higher yield and higher economic return in Aman season.Progressive Agriculture 28 (4): 279-286, 2017

The present investigation was executed at Agricultural Research Field, Noakahali Science and Technology University, Noakhali, Bangladesh to access the effects of variety and integrated application of vermicompost, biochar and urea on efficiency of boro rice yield. The experiment was accomplished during the period from November 2018 to May 2019. It was completed in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments assigned in a factorial arrangement of 2 × 4, with 2 varieties of rice (V1-BINA dhan 8, V2- BINA dhan 10) and 4 integration of vermicompost, biochar, and urea (T1: Vermicompost-2.5 t ha-1, T2: Vermicompost-2 t ha-1+ Biochar 0.5 t ha-1, T3: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1+ Biochar 1 t ha-1 and T4: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1 + Urea-150kg ha-1/0.15 t ha-1). Data were collected to analyze growth and yield contributing characters of boro rice. All the parameters were not statistically significant to differ. According to variety highest grain (3.73 t ha-1) and straw (2.8 t ha-1) yield was found from BINA dhan 10 in comparison with BINA dhan 8. In case of integrated application of vermicompost, biochar and urea, superior grain and straw yield were obtained from T4: Vermicompost-1.5 t ha-1 + Urea-0.15 t ha-1 whereas lowest grain yield (3.01 t ha-1 recorded from integrated application vermicompost and biochar. In combine maximum grain (4.92 t ha-1) and straw (4.40 t ha-1) yield was noted from BINA dhan 10 alone with integrated application of vermicompost and urea whereas the lowest data (grain: 2.50 t ha-1; straw: 1.64 t ha-1) was found from BINA dhan 8 along with vermicompost and biochar.

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during November 2008 to April 2009 to evaluate the effect of row and hill spacings on the yield of rice (cv. BRRI dhan45) under aerobic system of cultivation in boro season. Aerobic system is a new water efficient rice production system where the crop is grown by direct seeding on well prepared dry beds and also by maintaining the soil moisture at field capacity during the growing period. The experiment consisted of two row to row spacings viz. 20 and    25 cm, and five hill to hill spacings viz., 2.5, 5, 10, 15 and 20 cm. The trial was laid out in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Results revealed that the crop sown at 25 cm ×15 cm produced the highest grain yield of 5.69 t ha-1 whereas the lowest grain yield of 2.11 t ha-1 was found with 20 cm × 2.5 cm spacing. The present study concludes that the highest grain yield of BRRI dhan45 during boro season under aerobic system of cultivation could be achieved by sowing at 25 cm ×15 cm spacing.   DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jbau.v10i1.12037   J. The experiment was carried out during the period of June to November 2013 at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh with a view to examine the yield performance of some transplant aman rice varieties as influenced by different levels of nitrogen. The experiment consisted of four varieties viz. BRRI dhan49, BRRI dhan52, BRRI dhan56, BRRI dhan57 and four levels of N viz. 0, 46, 60 and 75 kg ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Variety, levels of N and their interactions exerted significant influence on yield contributing characters and yield of transplant aman rice. Among the varieties, BRRI dhan52 produced the tallest plant (117.20 cm), highest number of effective tillers hill-1 (11.28), grains panicle-1 (121.5) and 1000-grain weight (23.65 g) whereas the lowest values of these parameters were produced by BRRI dhan57. Highest grain yield (5.69 t ha-1) was obtained from BRRI dhan52 followed by BRRI dhan49 (5.15 t ha-1) and the lowest one (4.25 t ha-1) was obtained from BRRI dhan57. In case of N, the tallest plant (111.70 cm), highest number of total tillers hill-1 (12.34), grains panicle-1 (133.6), 1000-grain weight (24.55 g) and grain yield (5.64 t ha-1) were obtained from 75 kg N ha-1 and the lowest values were obtained from control. BRRI dhan52 fertilized with 75 kg N ha-1 showed best performance with respect to all the parameters studied. The overall results suggest that BRRI dhan52 should be fertilized with 75 kg N ha-1 for getting higher yield under the agro-climatic condition of BAU.J. Bangladesh Agril. The experiment was conducted with six rice varieties to determine their growth and yield performance. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. All the growth and yield contributing attributes varied significantly among the six rice varieties. The results revealed that maximum No. of filled spikelets/panicle observed in Binadhan-16 (108.43) and that was statistically similar with Binadhan-17 (100.10). Minimum number of filled spikelets/panicle observed in Binadhan-11 (60.60) and that was statistically similar with Binadhan-15 (63.87). Maximum 1000-seed weight was observed in Binadhan-16 (25.67 g) that was statistically similar with Binadhan-20 (25.33 g). The minimum 1000-seed weight was observed in Binadhan-15 (22.33 g) that was statistically similar with Binadhan-17 (23.00 g). Maximum number of non effective tiller was observed in Binadhan-11 (11.53) and minimum number in Binadhan-17 (2.30) that was statistically similar with Binadhan-16 (2.94). Highest grain yield was obtained from Binadhan-16 (6.57 t ha-1) that was significantly different from other varieties. Lowest grain yield observed in Binadhan-15 (5.39 t ha-1) that was statistically similar to Binadhan-7 (5.54 t ha-1). The highest straw yield (6.80 t ha–1) is produced by Binadhan-16 (Fig. 2). The lowest (5.89 t ha–1) straw yield was produced by Binadhan-7.

Varietal selection and appropriate placement of nitrogen fertilizer could reduce the magnitude of nitrogen losses to a considerable extent and improve its use efficiency for better grain production. An experiment was carried out during the period from July to December at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to evaluate the effect of variety and nitrogen fertilizer management on the growth and yield of transplant aman rice. The treatments consisted of three varieties viz. BR11, BRRI dhan49 and Binadhan-7, and five nitrogen fertilizer managements viz. two depth of placement of USG (Urea Super Granule) and three split applications of prilled urea. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The results showed that the effect of variety and nitrogen fertilizer management significantly influenced all the yield contributing characters except weight of 1000- grains, non-effective tillers hill-1 and panicle length. The highest grain yield (3.69 t ha-1) was obtained from Binadhan-7. In the case of nitrogen fertilizer management, the highest grain yield (4.32 t ha-1) was found from the 6 cm depth placement of USG. The highest grain yield (4.82 t ha- 1) was observed from the interaction of Binadhan-7 with the 6 cm depth of placement of USG. It may be concluded that Binadhan-7 with 6 cm depth of placement of USG appeared as the promising practice to maximize the yield of transplant aman rice. Res. Agric., Livest. Plant spacing ensures uniform and optimum plant population and facilitates sufficient natural resources for crop growth which, in turns influences the crop yield positively. An investigation was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, during July to December 2017 to study the influence of plant spacing on the yield of double grained rice cultivar. The study comprised five spacing viz. 25 cm × 15 cm, 25 cm × 10 cm, 20 cm × 15 cm, 20 cm × 10 cm and 15 cm × 15 cm and two rice cultivars viz. a double grained rice cultivar and BRRI dhan49 and a double grained rice cultivar. It was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The double grained rice cultivar produced taller plant (155.65 cm), longer panicle (23.93 cm), higher 1000-grain weight (25.96) and higher straw yield (6.90 t ha-1), though the higher grain yield (3.68 t ha-1) was found in the test cultivar (BRRI dhan49). Planting at 20 cm × 15 cm produced the highest grain yield (3.70 t ha-1) which was at par with 25 cm × 15 cm, 25 cm × 10 cm and 20 cm × 10 cm while planting at 15 cm × 15 cm produced the lowest grain yield (3.13 t ha-1). The interaction of the double grained rice cultivar with all spacing combinations produced taller plants than the spacing combinations with BRRI dhan49. The higher grain yield (3.52 t ha-1) was found in the double grained rice cultivar with 20 cm × 10 cm spacing which was at par with the spacing of 20 cm × 15 cm and 25 cm × 15 cm, respectively; although BRRI dhan49 always produced the higher yield. The lowest grain yield (3.08 t ha-1) was recorded at the double grained rice cultivar with 25 cm × 10 cm spacing, however, the same treatment produced the highest biological yield (11.23 t ha-1) due to the highest straw yield (8.15 t ha-1). Hence, the spacing 20 cm × 15 cm might be recommended for the higher grain yield in the double grained rice cultivar Res. Agric., Livest. Fish.8(3): 273-279, December 2021
