Abstract Background: To examine the association between sitting time and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease among South Koreans aged ≥20 years. Methods : Data from the 2016–2018 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used for the analysis. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease was diagnosed according to a hepatic steatosis index of >36. Sitting time was categorized into as < 5, 5 -7, 8 – 10, and > 10 hours. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between sitting time and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in South Korean population. Results : A total of 13,518 participants were enrolled. The odds for having NAFLD in 5 – 7, 8 – 10, and > 10 sitting hours were 1.04 (CI: 0.85-1.28), 1.23(CI: 1.01-1.51), and 1.33(CI: 1.10-1.62), respectively. The odds ratio increased in magnitude with longer hours of sitting time (test for trend: P-value = 0.0009). Conclusion : Advising physical exercises and discouraging sedentary activities may help to alleviate NAFLD among the South Korean population.

Regarding the importance of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the high prevalence of vitamin D3 deficiency in different societies. This study aimed to evaluate the distribution of Vit D3 deficiency in individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. In this cross-sectional study, 122 individuals with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were selected by a simple sampling method. After collecting demographic data, serum Vit 25(OH) D3 level was measured by the ELFA method. Blood lipids level (TG, cholesterol, HDL, LDL), FBS, AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase, total and direct bilirubin, albumin, and PT were measured by the enzymatic method. To analyze the data, descriptive and analytical methods and SPSS software version 16 were used. The study cases are comprised of 122 individuals (57.4% male). The average age of cases was 42.4±11.7 years, and the mean of serum Vit D3 level was 19.8±22 ng/dl (3-220 ng/dl). Regarding the serum 25(OH) D3 levels data showed 66.4% of cases were Vit D3 deficient (Vit D3 level< 20 ng/dl), 18% had insufficient level (Vit D3 level=20-30 ng/dl), and the remained 15.6% had sufficient level (Vit D3 level> 30 ng/dl). HDL level was higher in individuals with 25(OH) D3 sufficiency compared to those with 25(OH) D3 insufficiency and Vit D3 deficiency (P=0.019). There was no significant relationship between serum Vit D3 level and other investigated variables. The results of this study indicated that most individuals with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease had Vit D3 deficiency. Further studies are suggested.

Abstract Background Acrylamide (AA) is a toxicant to humans, but the association between AA exposure and the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remains unclear. In this study, our objective is to examine the cross-sectional association between AA exposure and the risk of NAFLD in American adults. Methods A total of 3234 individuals who took part in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2003–2006 and 2013–2016 were enrolled in the study. NAFLD was diagnosed by the U.S. Fatty Liver Index. Multivariable logistic regression models were applied to estimate the association between AA and NAFLD in the whole group and the non-smoking group. Results We discovered that in the whole group, serum hemoglobin adducts of AA (HbAA) were negatively associated with the prevalence of NAFLD after adjustment for various covariables (P for trend < 0.001). Compared with individuals in the lowest HbAA quartiles, the odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in the highest HbAA quartiles were 0.61 (0.46–0.81) and 0.57 (0.36–0.88) in the whole group and the non-smoking group, respectively. In contrast, HbGA/HbAA showed a significantly positive correlation with the prevalence of NAFLD in both groups (P for trend < 0.001). In addition, HbGA was not significantly associated with NAFLD in the whole group or the non-smoking group. Conclusions HbAA is negatively associated with NAFLD whereas HbGA/HbAA is positively associated with NAFLD in adults in the U.S. Further studies are needed to clarify these relationships.

Background: One of the diseases assuming fast importance is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) which is a clinical syndrome characterized by predominant macrovesicular steatosis of the liver which is an umbrella term for a range of liver conditions affecting people who drink little or no alcohol. Only mild to moderate elevation of serum transaminases which could be only laboratory abnormality found in NAFLD. So with this background, the study was started with the objectives of assessing the perceptions of general population regarding NAFLD and factors influencing perceptions of general population regarding NAFLD.Methods: It was a community based cross sectional study carried out for a period of 12 months from January 2018 to December 2018 among in Nanded, Maharashtra. Around 422 households were involved after simple random sampling. To assess perceptions a pretested semi-structured questionnaire was used which had 27 questions. All data collected was entered in Microsoft excel and analysed using SPSS v22.Results: Out of 422 participants, 147 (34.8%) were in the age group of 31-40 years, 333 (78.9%) were male participants, 179 (42.5%) were graduates, 284 (67.3%) belonged to joint family, 140 (33.2%) belonged to Modified BG Prasad classification 2018. 181 (42.9%) had satisfactory perception regarding NAFLD. Females, participants aged more than 40 years, nuclear family participants had better scores.Conclusions: The present study showed majority of the participants had little awareness of NAFLD regardless of their age, gender, or educational status. Awareness of NAFLD must be promoted for prevention, early detection, and treatment especially counseling by primary care physicians preponderant influence in preventive strategy for NAFLD breaking the chain of disease progression.
