In the present study, the aim was to determine alteration of NEFA, calcium and vitamin D3 levels in cow and calf pairs at parturition as well as correlation between each parameter levels. For this purpose, a cow-side device employing the enzymatic colorimetric method was used for measurement of NEFA and calcium levels. On the other hand, serum 25(OH)D3 analysis was performed using the fluorescence immunochromatographic method at the laboratory in the Faculty. Blood samples were taken from Vena jugularis of 15 Simmental cow and calf pairs immediately after parturition and placed in serum and heparinized tubes. In cow and calf pairs, concentration of vitamin D3 (15.6-120 and 31.8-120 ng/mL, respectively), NEFA (0.12-1.2 and 0.09-0.8 mmol/L, respectively) and calcium (1.8 ± 0.9 and 2.2 ± 0.6 mmol/L, respectively) were determined. There was no significant correlation between NEFA, Ca, and vitamin D3 in cows and calf pairs. Taking into account several co-factors that influenced test results, which could not easily be excluded, further studies may be warranted with larger cow-calf pair populations. In conclusion, vitamin D3 concentration in calves is not affected by the negative energy balance of dams in the parturition period.

Stressors are commonly encountered by all farmed species, including chickens, but the impact of these stressors on the animal and their productivity can be influenced by the environmental conditions in which they are kept. This study investigated the effects of dietary vitamin D3 (vitD3) and ultraviolet light (UVB) on growth performance, organ weight, serum corticosterone levels (CORT), serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25-OH-D3) status, gut histology, and welfare indicators of broiler chickens challenged with social isolation stress. One day (d) old Ross 308 broiler chicks (n = 192) were individually weighed, wing-tagged, and allocated to non-isolated (control) and isolated groups; control birds were never isolated, while isolated birds were subjected to regular sessions of social isolation for about 15-min periods over the course of 3 d a week for 2 weeks starting from d 10 (1.30 h total exposure) with inter treatment interval of 48 h. Birds were treated with either dietary vitD3 at 4,000 IU/kg (HD) or UVB light (UVB). The UVB lamp (24 Watt 12% UVB D3, 55 cm) with wavelength: 280–315 nm, intensity; 28.12 μW/cm2 hung 50 cm above the substrate was used for the broilers in all the treatment groups but were filtered to remove UVB in the HD group. Growth performance measure; body weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio were estimated at the end of starter (day 10), grower (day 24), and finisher periods (day 38). Broilers were feather and gait scored to measure welfare at 22/35 and 24/37 days of age, respectively. The selected birds were weighed and euthanized to obtain serum to determine 25-OH-D3 and CORT levels, GIT weights, and gut histology. Subjecting the birds to 2-week social isolation (for 15 min, three times per week) increased CORT levels but did not alter GP and 25-OH-D3 levels of broilers. However, UVB-treated broilers demonstrated better welfare, duodenal absorptive capacity, and reduced FCR compared to HD chickens. Results suggest some beneficial effects of UVB lighting on welfare indicators and the potential to support early life growth of commercial broilers reared indoors, which are often challenged with stressors.

The active forms of vitamin D3 (calcitriol and tacalcitol) coupled to the vitamin D receptor (VDR) are known to exhibit anti-cancer properties. However, not all cancer cells are sensitive to the active forms of vitamin D3 and its analogs. The study aimed to determine whether polymorphism of VDR is responsible for the sensitivity of human leukemia and lymphoma cells to calcitriol and tacalcitol. The impact of calcitriol and tacalcitol on the proliferation and morphology of nine different leukemia and lymphoma cell lines was determined. Only MV-4-11, Thp-1, and HL-60 cell lines sensitive to proliferation inhibition by calcitriol and tacalcitol showed morphology changes. Subsequently, the levels of the VDR and 1,25D3-MARRS proteins of calcitriol and tacalcitol binding receptors and the VDR receptor polymorphism in human leukemia and lymphoma cells were ascertained. Contrary to the current understanding, higher levels of VDR are not responsible for the greater sensitivity of cells to calcitriol and tacalcitol. Importantly, we first showed that sensitivity to calcitriol and tacalcitol in leukemias and lymphomas could be determined by the VDR polymorphism. The FokI polymorphism and the presence of the “bat” haplotype were observed only in the sensitive cells.

Mục tiêu: Mô tả hình ảnh siêu âm Doppler xuyên sọ (TCD) trong chẩn đoán dị dạng thông động-tĩnh mạch não (AVM) ở bệnh nhân chảy máu não do vỡ dị dạng thông động-tĩnh mạch não. Đối tượng nghiên cứu: Tất cả các bệnh nhân được chẩn đoán là dị dạng thông động-tĩnh mạch não có biến chứng chảy máu có làm siêu âm Doppler xuyên sọ được điều trị tại Bệnh viện Bạch Mai từ 10/2019 đến 07/2021. Phương pháp nghiên cứu: Mô tả cắt ngang. Kết quả: Tuổi trung bình của nhóm bệnh nhân AVM vỡ là 43±14,7 tuổi, tỷ lệ nam/nữ = 1,27/1. Bệnh nhân vào viện vì buồn nôn, nôn chiếm tỷ lệ 97,2%, đau đầu chiếm 94,4%, liệt nửa người chiếm 50%. TCD phát hiện động mạch nuôi ổ dị dạng so với phương pháp chụp mạch đạt 65%. Nguồn cấp máu cho ổ dị dạng từ động mạch não giữa chiếm 52,78%. Ổ dị dạng được nuôi bằng 1 đến 3 cuống nuôi (chiếm 91,67%), ổ dị dạng có một tĩnh mạch dẫn lưu duy nhất chiếm 72,2% và là những ổ dễ vỡ. Tỷ lệ phát hiện được dị dạng động mạch não giữa trên siêu âm Doppler xuyên sọ chiếm 89,47%. Siêu âm Doppler xuyên sọ có tỷ lệ phát hiện ổ dị dạng có kích thước trung bình và lớn lần lượt là 93,75% và 100%. Tốc độ dòng chảy bên nuôi ổ dị dạng của động mạch não giữa có tốc độ tăng hơn bên đối diện. Kết luận: Độ tuổi hay gặp nhất của các bệnh nhân AVM vỡ là trên 40 tuổi chiếm tỷ lệ 63,9%; tuổi trung bình 43 ± 14,7. Bệnh gặp ở cả hai giới với tỷ lệ nam/nữ là 1,27/1. Động mạch não giữa tham gia cấp máu cho ổ dị dạng chiếm 52,78%. TCD là phương pháp hữu ích để chẩn đoán các dị dạng thông động tĩnh mạch não nó có độ nhạy cao với các AVM có kích thước trung bình và lớn.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD), also known as eczema, is one of the most common skin disorders among children and adults, with a steep rise in diagnoses among children. Many studies have investigated the relationship between Vitamin D3 (Vit D3) and AD. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted among 60 children at SCB Medical College, Cuttack from August 2014 to November 2016. Children were randomly assigned to an intervention group that received 60,000 IU of Vit. D3 every week for 6 weeks in addition to regular treatment for AD and a control group that received same treatment of AD except for Vit. D3. Both the groups were followed up at 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Results: In 60 cases of moderate to severe AD, 70% of the patients were male. About 81.7% of patients were from urban areas and 56.7% belonged to a middle socioeconomic class. In 76.6% of cases, family history of atopy was present. At baseline, mean SCORAD was 47.8±7.5 in the intervention group, and 49.2±10.3 in the control group. At baseline, serum Vitamin. D3 level (ng/ml) was 17.6±1.8 in intervention and 17.3±3.5 in control group. After Vitamin. D3 supplementation, the SCORAD improved to 12.8±5.1 (75% reduction) at 4 weeks, and 3.6±2.1 (92% reduction) at 8 weeks in the intervention group. In the control group, the mean SCORAD was 18.8±9.1 (61% reduction) at 4 weeks, and 7.3±4 (85% reduction) at 8 weeks. Discussion: The improvement of serum 25-hydroxy Vit. D3 was 134% and 366% in the intervention group compared to 78% and 121% in the observation group after 4 weeks and 8 weeks respectively. The p-values at both the time points were significant (<0.05) for the intervention group as compared to the control group. Conclusion: Short-term therapeutic supplementation of Vitamin. D3 in children with moderate to severe AD improves the clinical score. There is an inverse relationship between serum Vitamin. D3 level and severity of AD.

There are many metabolic and hormonal factors related to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) that can be affected by vitamin D3 supplementation. To find clinical trials, in vivo studies, and in vitro studies that met the review's inclusion and exclusion criteria, we searched many databases. PCOS women's ovulation and metabolic parameters were examined in relation to the effects of vitamin D3 treatment on PCOS risk variables such as seasonal changes in body mass index, and obesity. The current review included twenty-five articles. Vitamin D3(25-hydroxy vitamin D) levels were significantly lower in the PCOS group than in the control group, and lipid profile and androgen hormone levels were significantly higher in the PCOS group, resulting in increased cardiovascular events and exaggerated hirsutism. According to the majority of research, vitamin D3 plays a beneficial role in decreasing the pathophysiology of PCOS, notably in restoring ovulation, which ultimately improves fertility. Although other studies found no effect on lipid profile, there was a minor effect on reducing cardiovascular risks. The response of patients to vitamin D3 was influenced by the dose administered and the study's methodology. In conclusion, vitamin D3 had a good effect on the pathophysiology of PCOS in the majority of investigations.

Abstract Background The role of vitamin D on muscle health is debated. Methods An individual participant metanalysis of four randomized placebo-controlled trials, investigating short term (three to nine months) effects of vitamin D3 in moderate (2800 IU) to high (7000 IU) daily oral doses on muscle health and quality of life (QoL). Inclusion criteria were either obesity (N=52), newly diagnosed primary hyperparathyroidism (N=41), Graves’ disease (N=86) or secondary hyperparathyroidism (N=81). Results Overall (N=260) as well as in a subgroup analysis including only vitamin D insufficient (25(OH)D&lt; 50 nmol/L) individuals (N=176), vitamin D supplementation did not affect measures of muscle health (isometric muscle strength, Timed Up and Go test, Chair Rising Test, body composition, and balance) or QoL. However, a beneficial effect was present on QoL (physical component score) in vitamin D deficient (25(OH)D≤ 25 nmol/L) individuals (N=34). Overall, relative changes in 25(OH)D inversely affected maximum muscle strength in a dose response manner. Stratified into BMI &lt;/≥ 30 kg/m 2, vitamin D supplementation had divergent effects on isometric muscle strength, with beneficial effects in obese individuals (N=93) at knee flexion 90° (p=0.04), and adverse effects in non-obese individuals (N=167) at handgrip (p=0.02), knee extension 60° (p=0.03) and knee flexion 60° (p&lt;0.01). Conclusion Overall, short-term treatment with moderate to high daily doses of vitamin D did not affect muscle health or QoL. A potential beneficial effect was present on muscle strength in severe obese individuals and on QoL in vitamin D deficient individuals. Subgroup analyses however suggested negative effects of large relative increases in p-25(OH)D.
