Curriculum development comprises a process to meet learners’ needs leading to learners’ learning improvement. For that reason, curriculum developers should gather as much information as possible toward the learners’ needs. This study aims to reveal the learners’ needs on local cultural based-textbook in learning Reading Professional Context at the English department of Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI) Toraja, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study employed qualitative with survey design. One-hundred-and-fifty-five learners of English program study of UKI Toraja participated in this study. The instruments used in this study are questionnaire and semi structured-interview. The technique of analyzing data applied in this research is descriptive analysis in the form of calculation and percentage, and in analyzing the qualitative data (interview), the researcher used cyclical data analysis. This study showed that the students’ need a learning objective to understand beliefs, norms, values, and social practices in Toraja for maintaining Torajan Culture and avoiding misunderstanding across the culture. This study also indicates that the students’ need themes about the cultural pattern in Toraja for learning materials include beliefs, values, norms, and social practices in Toraja. Besides, this study revealed that students’ need learning strategies and evaluation. Learning strategies are rooted in activities/exercises on the material content and the number of students. On-time evaluation is necessary during the process and at the end of the lesson.

Students need to take control of their learning process by knowing when, where and how to use appropriate learning strategies for effective learning to take place. One of the language learning strategies learners need to take into consideration is vocabulary learning strategy (VLS) as vocabulary is one of the crucial elements that learners need to master in language learning. Vocabulary learning strategies if used effectively will help learners to master a wide range of vocabulary. This study aims to identify the types of VLS which are frequently used among ESL undergraduates according to learners’ gender. Forty ESL undergraduates from various disciplines at a local university were involved in this study and data were collected to achieve the main objective of the study. The survey design was employed, and data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive analysis to measure the frequency and percentage to identify the most frequent use of VLS and whether it differs from the undergraduates’ gender. The findings of this study found that male undergraduates used VLS more than female undergraduates and memory and social strategy were the most frequently used by female undergraduates while male undergraduates used more of cognitive and metacognitive strategy. Therefore, the findings of the study are indeed beneficial for learners to know which VLS suits them and how they can acquire a vast amount of vocabulary during their second language learning process by applying those vocabulary strategies.

This study aims to explain: (i) shift jobs in Indonesian International Return Migrant (IIRM) between before and after becoming a international migrant; (ii) migrant jobs in the destination country and after returning to Indonesia; and (iii) duration of time as IIRM and number of countries of work. This study uses a theoretical framework of needs and stress theory. This study uses survey design and case studies and selected the location of studies in the Central Java. The determination of the sample size of this study uses the Krejcie and Morgan techniques. Based on the calculation results, the number of respondents in this study was 313 respondents. The number of informants for this study was 60 people. Data collection uses structured interview methods, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions. Data analysis uses descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative descriptive analysis. The analysis showed that a significant shift in migrant worker occurred in the employment of labor who switched to trade, before working abroad as much as 22.7% to 9.3% and the trade sector from 4.8% to 20.4%, in addition to the agricultural sector (8.6% to 11.8%) and services (2.9% to 6.1%). The duration of time for migrants working abroad for more than 4 years is 50.8%. The main objective of international migration for Indonesian migrants is Southeast Asia, 38% and second, East Asia, which is almost 29%. The employment sector that absorbs the most labor in various destination countries is domestic work (69%), which includes 60% of domestic work (household work) and 8% in nursing homes. In addition, migrants work in the plantation sector, which is 6.5%. These three jobs are known as smelly, heavy and dangerous (S.H.D) or in Indonesia as bau, berat, bahaya (3B), which are usually a relatively for work force segment of low education.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which teachers and principals are prepared and capacitated to implement ICTs in the NEPAD e-Schools, Kenya. Methodology: This study adopted a descriptive survey design. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. The target population for the study were all principals and 256 teachers from 6 model e-Schools. Sampling was done employing a mixture of methods. Stratified sampling was used to pick schools, while purposive sampling was used to pick principals and teachers. Five principals and 110 teachers were sampled. Data was collected using questionnaire for teachers, and structured interview for principals. The collected data was coded, run for descriptive analysis; including frequencies, percentages, measures of central tendency and measures of variability/spread, and presented with the aid of appropriate notes, frequency tables, percentages, charts and figures. Findings: The study established that despite most teachers and principals having been trained, they had not been sufficiently empowered towards effectively and successfully applying ICTs. Moreover, majority of the untrained teachers and principal had not trained because no training had occurred since they joined the schools. However, despite their status, most teachers believed they could still perform some tasks involving ICTs. Most trained teachers and principals needed to be trained, retrained and/or trained further on several skills, especially in the preparation and use of multimedia instructional tools, and on-line research and communication. The study concluded that most teachers and principals may be willing to apply ICTs but are limited by the nature and extent of their empowerment. Moreover, ICTs application programmes are likely to succeed better if they employ regular, on-going training. Unique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study could inform education planners and trainers about necessary adjustments to future pre-service and in-service teacher training programmes involving application of ICTs. It would also contribute to the body of knowledge in educational technology, which might inform theory and practice in ICTs integration. It could also inform the development of best practices in the application and integration of ICTs in instruction.

This paper presents a reflection about being terminally ill and the various ways that the subject has at its disposal to deal with this event. The objective is to understand the experience of palliation for patients undergoing no therapeutic possibilities of cure. The methodology of this study has the instruments to semi-structured interview, the participant observation and the field diary, and the Descriptive Analysis of Foucault’s inspiration how the narratives of the subjects were perceived. The Results of paper there was the possibility of looking at the experience of illness through the eyes of a subject position assumed by the very sick. As conclusion we have than when choosing palliative care, the terminally ill opts for a way to feel more comfortable and resists the impositions of the medical model of prolonging life.

Students’ poor Financial Accounting performance in senior secondary schools is worrisome and induces youths to engage in several social vices. An attempt to curb the menace and improve students’ performance led this study to assess the instructional resources and effective pedagogy of Financial Accounting in secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. Adopting the descriptive survey research design, the population of the study comprised 2,492 senior secondary schools 1 and 2 students and 10 teachers of Financial Accounting under Education District IV in Lagos State, Nigeria. 300 students and all the 10 teachers eventually emerged as samples using Checkmarket Sample Size Calculator at 5% margin and 95% confidence level. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire that obtained Cronbach’s Alpha=0.90, and analysed using descriptive analysis and t-test at α=0.05 level of significance. The results showed that the teachers of Financial Accounting were not using activity-based pedagogical strategies. Most of the instructional materials necessary for the effective pedagogy of Financial Accounting were inadequate and malfunctioning. Therefore, Financial Accounting teachers are strongly encouraged to apply innovative and experiential learning strategies in teaching and learning. Furthermore, adequate infrastructure and modern equipment in the schools will create better learning opportunities for students.

Abstract This study explores the use of Vocabulary Learning Strategies (VLSs) by Jordanian undergraduate students majoring French as a Foreign Language (FFL) at Jordanian universities. The vocabulary learning strategies (Memory, Determination, Social, Cognitive, and Metacognitive) were used in this study following Schmitt’s taxonomy. A five-point Likert-scale questionnaire containing 37 items adapted from Schmitt’s (1997) Vocabulary Learning Strategies Questionnaire (VLSQ) administered to 840 FFL undergraduates randomly selected from seven Jordanian universities. The descriptive analysis showed that the participants of the study regardless of their year of study were medium strategy users overall. The results revealed that Memory strategies were the most frequently employed strategies, whereas the Social strategies were the least frequently used ones. Although the participants were medium strategy users, the results of the VLSQ disclosed that some individual strategies were employed at a high level. Accordingly, detecting these strategies will be beneficial to language instructors to improve effective vocabulary teaching techniques and to motivate language learners to use them more frequently.

Think-Pair-Share technique is one of the cooperative learning strategies that promote student involvement in the classroom. This strategy makes students engaged in in-class activities such as discussions and provides opportunities to share their ideas with others. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of the Think-Pair-Share strategy in teaching speaking skill for secondary students. A qualitative method with a descriptive analysis was undertaken in this study. The sample was twenty students of eighth grade. The data was collected through interviews, observation, and document analysis. The data analysis technique used was presented in a descriptive form. The results indicated the implementation of the Think-Pair-Share technique during the learning process took place following the stages that have been stated in the learning process plan made by the teacher. Appreciation for the implementation of the Think-Pair-Share technique both from students is quite good. Students stated that they can overcome the constraints in the learning process of speaking activity through Think-Pair-Share.

This study aims to analyze the learning process at SMP Negeri 14 Medan. This research uses qualitative research, with a case study approach of SMP Negeri 14 Medan. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, focus group discussions and documentation and then analyzed descriptively with descriptive analysis model. The results obtained are that the modeling learning strategy has a good impact on improving student learning outcomes, by making several figures into models who practice certain materials in the learning process, so that learning to dance starts from opening, core activities to closing. The conclusion of this research is that the modeling learning strategy designed by SMP Negeri 14 Medan, the modeling learning strategy takes into account the interests of students, the learning outcomes taught with modeling learning strategies are higher than those taught with conventional learning strategies.

<span>The aim of this study was to design a learning environment supported by a problem-based learning method and to obtain students' views on this process. In this context, the Database Management Systems course was taught according to the problem-based learning method. The participants of the study consisted of 25 students from the 2nd-grade students studying in the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology in the spring semester of 2015 at Uludag University Faculty of Education. The research design of this study was the case study, which is one of the qualitative research designs. Data were obtained from the students via a semi-structured interview form. Descriptive analysis was applied to the data obtained from the interview. According to the results obtained from the analysis of the data, the students were generally satisfied with the problem-based learning practices. In addition, the students emphasized that it is important to have a sufficient level of necessary knowledge of the implementation of problem-based learning to design the classroom environment.</span>

Understanding of learning material, especially accounting material, has an impact on the achievement of students' learning outcomes. The research aims to look at the factors that influence the learning approach of Unimed accounting education students. This research was carried out in the FE UNIMED using questionnaires distributed to students of the Accounting Education Program batch of 2015 and 2016, amounting 60 and 68 students from each batch. The selection of batches is based on the type of curriculum applied to each batch, namely the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (abbreviated as KKNI) for 2016 and the non-KKNI for 2015. The approach used in this study was a qualitative approach, with the analysis used was descriptive statistical analysis on factors such as interest, motivation, learning style, anxiety, institutional, and learning strategies. The descriptive analysis shows that except for the interest indicating that non-KKNI students have a higher interest in applying a variety of learning approaches of Non-KKNI students than their KKNI peers, other factors are similar between students from two batches.  Keywords: Interest; Motivation; Learning Style; Anxiety; Institutional.
