The article is devoted to the reality of the modern historical city in the totality of the actual values of the valuable heritage, traces of the past, mental codes, archetypal images and the memory of civilization. The place of history in today’s socio-cultural fi eld and in the professional context is not clearly defi ned. Together with the understanding of the need to preserve the heritage, traces and memory of the past, there are global trends that mediate the features of the glocal in architecture. However, even this compromise cannot fully demonstrate the complexity of the historical city viability. According to the author, it is necessary to search for reasons that sometimes appear outside the material reality, but address directly to the spiritual world and mental space of a person, which is the main purpose of the article. The emphasis is placed on the artistic dimension of environmental realities, which allows us to determine the living connections of history and modernity on the basis of the author’s concept of artc integration. The article is illustrated by some results of cooperation between the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano) in the fi eld of reconstruction and renovation of historically valuable territories and author’s photographs.

Graduates of technical architecture and construction have several work possibilities ahead of them. One is to join firms that carry out supervisory work of construction design projects, and their role in such firms is to perform an in-depth and formal verification of the content of design documents. This paper presents a number of results obtained in practical activities with students, the objective of which was to understand how they would carry out the management of such supervisory tasks by means of a systematic process of item verification. It is thus intended to hold an exercise of how they will eventually organise their professional duties. The results are grouped into five fully systematised checklist tables, one for each of the component elements of design projects (description, attachments, plans, measurements and budgets, and terms and conditions). A total of 108 testing and control checks were envisaged, each of which is well suited to be used, as-is, in a real professional context.

Abstract Using the results of two surveys conducted by the present authors, this paper examines translators’ and interpreters’ behaviour in the translation market and factors that influence it in (Slovak) society. In keeping with the familiar fact that not all translators are alike, we believe that empirically measurable factors enable us to observe behavioural patterns among translators and interpreters that are distinguishable along an axis of specialisation and an axis of professionalisation. The authors conducted two separate surveys involving 550 translators and interpreters – including literary translators, court translators and interpreters, translators of technical texts, audiovisual translators, institutional interpreters, and freelance translators – who worked across Slovakia’s market spectrum. In the analysis of the survey results, we found that, among other things, the level of professionalisation played a crucial role in translators’ decision-making processes within the broader social and professional context. In line with Toury’s (1995, 55) definitions of the norm, we hoped to “distinguish regularity of behaviour in recurrent situations of the same type” according to certain factors, including the degree of professionalisation and age, education, and type of translatorial activity.

The phenomenon of news automation is viewed ambivalently by news professionals, who understand that it promises to give journalists more time to focus on their key activities but who also fear job losses and perceive new ethical questions relating to its use. Although automated news production methods refer to software or algorithmic processes that convert structured data into text or visual representations, a ‘robot’ metaphor is often used to describe the activity. Does this metaphor influence the mediatic discourses of journalists when they write about automated news within their professional context? How do they give meaning to the information? Do they observe an enunciative withdrawal? The present corpus-based research focuses on 300 headlines published online in English and French in a variety of countries over eight years. The findings show that journalists do not limit themselves to facts when they write about a subject connected to them, and that although in this instance the two groups studied do share some preoccupations, there are nuances between them. Those nuances lie in the opposition between the expression of feelings of fear (of losing their jobs or professional identity) and the expression of feelings of confidence (in the future or in progress). It was also found that the use of robot metaphors influenced these trends but in opposite directions.

This paper makes the case that ableist ideologies hinder trends towards inclusion, as evidenced by keyliterature and legislations on inclusive education. I also discuss the issues, challenges, and dilemmasgenerated by these ableist ideologies in my professional context as an autistic speech-languagetherapist from the Philippines. I conclude with my reflection on how practitioners can help change thetrajectory towards emancipatory inclusive practices that are informed by the neurodiversity paradigm. To respect the preference of the communities I represent, this paper uses identity-first language(American Psychological Association, 2019; Bottema-Beutel et al., 2020; The Alliance for InclusiveEducation, 2021) when writing about pupils or learners who are traditionally identified by theeducation sector as needing “special education”.
