The aim of the article is to measure and evaluate the economic and technical efficiency as well as the total productivity of dairy farms in Poland. The research used data from the Polish FADN. The analysis covered the years 2008–2017. The study group consisted of 730 farms. An iteration-optimization method, k-means clustering, non-parametric DEA method, and aggregated Färe–Primont indexes were used to achieve the goal. The conducted research allowed for the distinction of four types of dairy farms with different levels of economic efficiency. We prove that the costs of labor, energy, maintenance of machines and buildings, fodder, depreciation, and overheads, as well as agricultural land, affect the technical efficiency and total productivity of dairy farms. We also prove that over the analyzed years, technical efficiency decreased in all groups of dairy farms, while the Färe–Primont index of total productivity changes slightly increased. The validity of these studies and their practical significance result from the need to improve the competitiveness of dairy farms and increase their profitability. Our research fills a gap in research on measuring and evaluating the efficiency and productivity of dairy farms, and at the same time represents an original approach to the studied phenomenon. Moreover, it allows for the explanation of differences in the effectiveness of different types of dairy farms, providing useful information for the design of effective targeted policy interventions to improve the competitiveness of the Polish dairy sector. There are opportunities to improve both the technical efficiency and productivity of dairy farms in Poland. This increase will be possible thanks to the improvement of agricultural advisory services and ensuring that farmers participate in training in proper nutrition, reproduction, milk marketing and other management skills.

The aim of the study was assessment of efficiency and productivity of farms in the Lublin province in the years 2014-2016. The analysis was based on the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model oriented on inputs and Malmquist indices with its components. The calculations were made for medium-sized field and dairy farms that continuously collected data for the FADN system during the period under consideration. In our research all efficiency indicators for dairy farms were larger than for field crop farms. In the years 2014-2016, the average technical efficiency of dairy farms was 0.752, which means that in those farms it is possible to reduce inputs on average by 25% and the value of production will remain at the same level. In the case of field crop farms, inputs should be limited by 33%. The applied decomposition of calculated Malmquist indices allowed to define what factors influenced changes in productivity.

In recent years, with the increase of population, the development of urbanization, and the improvement of people’s living standard, people have got an increasingly strong consciousness of environment landscape. While, the global climate change, water shortage and pollution problems which are resulted in the development of social economy. In this article, according to the different traits of waterfront landscape environment, we will analyze the problems of waterfront landscape environment construction, and discuss the design technique of waterfront landscape and the optimization method of landscape environment based on the visual angle of ecology restoration. This can prompt the development of waterfront landscape environment towards the harmony and intergrowth of nature ,ecology and human culture, and this has practical significance for the sustainable development of human and water.

The purpose of the article is to reveal the experience of the functioning of the market circulation of agricultural land in Denmark, in order to further implement in Ukrainian practice, the positive and avoid negative aspects of this experience. Research methods. The study used an empirical method (comprehensive assessment of the modern model of market turnover of agricultural land in Denmark); generalization and systematization (construction of the concept and logical-structural model of economic turnover of lands); abstract-logical method (theoretical generalizations and formulation of conclusions). Research results. It was found that the tightly regulated market turnover of agricultural land in Denmark was changed to a more liberal one, with permission to buy land for foreigners, but this not only did not attract investment as expected, but on the contrary, led to even more negative and crisis phenomena in country. The main tools, mechanisms and conditions of land turnover in agriculture of this country are determined. Scientific novelty. The main purpose of regulating the market turnover of land in Danish agriculture has been established. The legal framework of Denmark for regulating the market circulation of agricultural land has been studied. The structural and logical scheme of market circulation of agricultural lands is formed. The provisions on the Ukrainian model of regulating the market turnover of agricultural lands were further developed, taking into account the experience of the studied country. Practical significance. The results of the study of the experience of the Kingdom of Denmark on the market turnover of land, in terms of granting non-residents access to the right to purchase agricultural land, is a clear practical answer and a caveat that should undoubtedly be taken into account in Ukraine. The application of the Danish experience should help to build an effective model of market turnover of agricultural land in our country. Tabl.: 1. Figs.: 1. Refs.: 18.

The paper concentrates on the measurement of the total factor productivity of dairy farms in the south-west region of Bangladesh. The study used stochastic frontier approach for analyzing the technical efficiency of the dairy farms. Here, seventy dairy farms are considered as a sample. The data reveals that the number of labor and the quantity of food are statistically significant at a 1 percent level of significance. The data also manifests that numerous farm-specific characteristics, i.e. farm size, farmer’s age, and amount of credit are statistically significant at 1 percent, 10 percent, and 10 percent respectively. The range of technical efficiency for the farms varies from 26 percent (minimum) to 95 percent (maximum) where the mean value is 68 percent for the dairy farms of the south-west region. This implies that an average output of milk production falls 32 percent short of maximum possible level. Hence, there is scope of improvement in this sector. Therefore, to improve the farm productivity government should provide proper training, and medical treatment facilities for the farms so that the animals become healthy. If it is possible to do so then the farm level production frontier will shift upward.

This study aims at analysing the trends in efficiency of Lithuanian dairy farms and thus identifying the prospective development paths. The semiparametric approach based on nonparametric regression and Stochastic Frontier Analysis is applied for the analysis. The research relies on Farm Accountancy Data Network and covers family farms. The period of 2004–2011 is considered. In order to identify the underlying trends in dairy farming, we focus on such features as technical efficiency, partial elasticities, and elasticity of scale. The semiparametric approach yielded rather high efficiencies. Specifically, the average technical efficiency of 89% was observed. A decline in technical efficiency during 2004–2011 is present for both point estimates and associated bounds of the confidence interval. Analysis of the elasticity of scale implies that most of the farms could still increase their scale of operation. The obtained results were confirmed by a parametric random coefficients model.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to complement and extend previous literature reviews on Technical Efficiency (TE) in dairy farms, analysing the effects of different methodologies and study-specific characteristics on Mean TE (MTE). Design/methodology/approach – The researchers independently conducted a systematic review of more than 400 abstracts and 85 full-text papers. Original keywords were applied to seven key electronic databases. Results from a meta-regression analysis of 85 published papers totalling 443 TE distributions in dairy farms worldwide are discussed. Findings – The variation in the MTE indexes reported in the literature can be explained by the methodology of estimations (method of estimation, functional form of frontier models, model dimensionality), the farms geographical location and farm size. Additionally, the results suggest that, given the state of technology prevailing in each country at the time that the studies on TE were conducted, dairy farmers in the sample could increase milk output by 20.9 per cent (level of inefficiency), on average, if they produce on their frontiers. Originality/value – This study makes two important contributions: first, it updates and compares previous works on frontier estimation of TE in dairy farms; and second, it adds two dimensions of dairy farms, size (herd and land area) and economic development, to the known differentials of TE measurement.
