The aim of the research presented in this paper is the experimental confirmation of the numerically defined shapes of the Strut-and-Tie models, designed according to the EN 1992-1-1 recommendations, and obtained from the software “ST method”. Three reinforced concrete deep beams with openings were tested. Each of them had the same dimensions and quality of the material characteristics. The specimens, constructed as simply supported beams, were loaded with two concentrated forces and were tested for bending until failure. Each specimen was reinforced with different reinforcement layout determined by variation parameter β, incorporated in the software “ST method”. For the determination of the Strut-and-Tie models, all of the reinforcement layouts were equally favored in the first specimen (β = 1.0 for 0°, 45°, and 90°), only the horizontal direction was favored in the second (β = 1.0 for 0°), while in the third specimen the one at the angle of 45° (β = 1.0 for 45°). Based on the results of experimental research, it was concluded that the behavior of loaded members was in agreement with the proposed shapes of the Strut-and-Tie models that were used for their design, and it was confirmed that the program “ST method” can be used for obtaining Strut–and-Tie models.

All tested specimens were made in full size, with the same geometric characteristics and quality of the materials. The specimens, constructed as simply supported beams, were loaded with two concentrated forces and were tested for bending until failure. Each specimen was reinforced with different reinforcement layout determined by parameter variation within the Strut-and-Tie method. Based on the results of experimental research, it was concluded that the behavior of loaded members was in agreement with the proposed forms of the Strut-and-Tie models that were used for their design.

A general methodology for the study of water quality in rivers is presented. The paper consists of four parts. In the first part the general characteristics of the area of study, which is the Beli Lom river, and its major pollution sources are presented. The effluent of the Razgrad Wastewater Treatment Plant (RWWTP) has been identified as the most significant pollution point source, due to the inadequate performance of the plant. The second part deals with data collection and processing. Four series of data have been collected, including physical, flow and water quality characteristics. In the third part a 1-d, finite-difference, second-order model is presented. In the fourth part, the model is calibrated, for the determination of its main coefficients, and is successfully verified by predicting the BOD and DO concentrations in the Beli Lom river for all series of data. Finally, the model has been applied to determine the maximum BOD and minimum DO effluent concentrations of the RWWTP, so that a minimum DO concentration is maintained throughout the river.

Decent quality of indoor air is important for health and wellbeing of building users. We live, work and study in indoors of various types of buildings. Often people are exposed to pollutants at higher concentrations than these that occur out-doors. Continual investigation of indoor air quality is needed for ensuring comfort and healthy environment. Measuring and analysis of occurrence of physical, chemical and biological factors is the first step for suggestion of optimization measures. Inside school buildings there are often inadequate indoor climate conditions such as thermal comfort parame-ters or ventilation. The aim of this study was determination of indoor environmental quality in selected offices in the building of elementary school in Slovakia. The values of operative temperature were not within the optimum range of values for the warm period of the year in one of the monitored offices. The intensity of illumination was lower in the two offices. Low levels of particulate matters were measured except the one office where permissible value was exceeded by 7.6%.

After more than 10 years in orbit, the SMOS team has started a new reprocessing campaign for the SMOS measurements, which includes the changes in calibration and image reconstruction that have been made to the Level 1 Operational Processor (L1OP) during the past few years. The current L1 processor, version v620, was used for the second mission reprocessing in 2014. The new version, v724, is the one run in the third mission reprocessing and will become the new operational processor. The present paper explains the major changes applied and analyses the quality of the data with different metrics. The results have been obtained with numerous individual tests that have confirmed the benefits of the evolutions and an end-to-end processing campaign involving three years of data used to assess the improvements of the SMOS measurements quantitatively.

Based on strut-and-tie model (STM) in deep beams, steel truss reinforced concrete (STRC) deep beam was developed. Experimental investigations of mechanical performances of STRC deep beams were carried out, and results show that STRC deep beam is of high ultimate bearing capacity, large rigidity and good ductility; Strut-and-tie force transference model is formed in STRC deep beams, and loads can be transferred in the shortest and direct way. Then Steel reinforced concrete (SRC) strut-and-tie model (SSTM) for determining the shear strength of STRC deep beams is proposed. The contribution of SRC diagonal strut, longitudinal reinforcements, stirrups and web reinforcements to the shear strength of STRC deep beams are determined with consideration of softened effects of concrete, and for safe consideration, superposition theory is employed for SRC struts. Computer programs are developed to calculate the shear strength of STRC deep beams and verified by experimental results.

This paper presents the test results on the shear behavior of reinforced concrete deep beams with six steel reinforcement configurations. They were designed in accordance with the method given in the ACI 318-11. The specimens were subjected to the single concentrated loading at mid-span. The horizontal to vertical reinforcement ratios and shear span-to-effective depth ratios were the variables studied. The shear span-to-effective depth ratios of the beam specimen were between 1.5 to 2.0. The strut-and-tie model was used for the analysis. The test results indicated that the first diagonal cracking load and the failure mode were controlled by the horizontal to vertical reinforcement ratios and the shear span-to-depth ratios. The tests consistently gave the strength values slightly less than those calculated by using the ACI model. A modified ACI model for strut-and-tie was thus proposed and was found to accurately fit the experimental results.

This is a research in the style of research and development. The researcher conducted fieldwork by collecting data on the current situation of and problems in bamboo-baking in 10 provinces. Then the data were analyzed to find out about the forms of ovens and quality of each type of baking in order to compare the baking quality. Moreover, the data were used in a brainstorm with 12 participators consisting of entrepreneurs and those who are concerned. All the data from the study were used in the determination of the basic requirements for the experiment of designing and creating 4 model ovens. The fourth is the one that has been tested and proved to be suitable for usage in the manufacturing processes of bamboo handicraft, both wickerwork and furniture. In the experiment of preventing the eating of weevils and other insects, it was found that during 6 months, no evidence of such eating was found, which corresponds to the determined standard.

This paper presents a simple strut and tie model to calculate the shear strength of reinforced concrete deep beams. The proposed model assumes that the shear strength is the algebraic sum of three strength components: concrete diagonal strut, vertical stirrups, and horizontal web reinforcements. The contribution of each strength components was calibrated with the test results of 305 deep beams compiled from previous studies with wide range of geometrical and material properties. The predictions of the proposed model were compared with those of the current codes of practice (ACI-318-14 and ASHTOO 2014) and those of existing model in the literature. Comparisons revealed that the proposed model provided better predictions than other models. The mean of predicted strength to test of the proposed model, the ACI-318-14 model, the ASHTOO 2014 model were 0.98, 0.79, and 0.75, respectively. The corresponding standard deviations were 0.17, 0.28, and 0.49, respectively.
