Scents have the ability to affect peoples’ mental states and task performance with to different extents. It has been widely demonstrated that the lemon scent, included in most all-purpose cleaners, elicits stimulation and activation, while the lavender scent elicits relaxation and sedative effects. The present study aimed at investigating and fostering a novel approach to evaluate users’ experience with respect to scents’ effects through the joint employment of Virtual Reality and users’ neurophysiological monitoring, in particular Electroencephalography. In particular, this study, involving 42 participants, aimed to compare the effects of lemon and lavender scents on the deployment of cognitive resources during a daily life experience consisting in a train journey carried out in virtual reality. Our findings showed a significant higher request of cognitive resources during the processing of an informative message for subjects exposed to the lavender scent with respect to the lemon exposure. No differences were found between lemon and lavender conditions on the self-reported items of pleasantness and involvement; as this study demonstrated, the employment of the lavender scent preserves the quality of the customer experience to the same extent as the more widely used lemon scent.

<p><b>In a working environment where employee poaching and regular staff turnovers are common, the culture of an office is at the core of company loyalty and organisationalsustainability. This being said, many companies still lack the knowledge andunderstanding of their own work place, resulting in a disconnected understanding of whatspatial qualities benefit employee well-being. This Thesis proposes an innovated and unprecedented methodology in which a deeper understanding between officeend user and work place are explored. Through the implementation of immersivevirtual technologies such as 3D scanning and virtual reality, a deeper understandingof the worker and workplace can be facilitated. Explored through literature, theabilities of immersive virtual technologies allow for the potential of an alternative spatialenvironment in which users inhabit space. This methodology, tested through a pilot and case study, concur the potential of extracting connections between users and space at both an emotional and technical level. As such, the resulting data informs the design proposals, creating solutions that are cultured by the emotional connections extracted between user and office, as well as the spatial qualities needed to promote wellbeing.</b></p> <p>The proposed research methodology fruitions the possibility to identify the intangible quality of office culture within existing work places, providing opportunities to improve the spatial quality and in turn enhance the well-being of the end users. Ultimately, providing ahigher and more tangible understanding between architect, client and workplace.</p>

PurposeThis paper aims to depict the practical execution of the problem-solving structure provided by the define, measure, analyze, improve and control (DMAIC) framework in combination with the analytical power provided by process mining capabilities, to improve the supply chain quality of a health-care provider. Design/methodology/approachPrior to the study, a literature review was conducted to identify existing frameworks combining six sigma with process mining. The authors use a descriptive case study approach to explain how the two methodologies blend across the different phases of DMAIC in a health-care setting. FindingsThis case study describes how analyzing data extracted from core information systems has significant value to improvement initiatives when complemented by traditional quality methods. By intersecting process mining techniques with lean six sigma tools, the researchers found 65% of orders not complying with the target ordering time and 200 redundant purchases with high operational costs. Research limitations/implicationsBy depicting how the two methodologies can be intertwined, this paper complements existing research by presenting it as a viable quality improvement approach. Practical implicationsThis paper provides insights for six sigma and process mining practitioners on the benefits of combining both methodologies within the DMAIC structure. Implementing this blended approach can bring visibility to operations and accelerate process improvement initiatives. Originality/valueThe prime value of this paper lies in the integration of traditional six sigma methods with process mining as a technological approach in a health-care context, going beyond existing research, which, to the best of the knowledge, lacks descriptive case studies.

This paper proposes the and justify how we can enhance the quality of medical education through immersive learning and AI (Artificial Intelligence) use in education. A Multimodal Approach for Immersive Teaching and learning through Animation, AR (Augmented Reality) & VR (Virtual Reality) is aimed at providing specifically medical students with knowledge, skills, and understanding. It is important to understand the current challenge involved in medical education. This paper reports the findings of a novel study on the technology enable teaching with Animation, AR and VR by and MR impact. A case study was conducted involving 521 participants from different states of India. The data was analyzed by their feedback after using this Virtual reality-based teaching procedure in classroom. Recommendations from this paper that are expected to effectively improving the quality of medical education in faster way.

Persistent and inconsistent unsteadiness with nonvertiginous dizziness (persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD)) could negatively impact quality of life. This study highlights that the use of virtual reality (VR) systems offers bimodal benefits to PPPD, such as understanding symptoms and providing a basis for treatment. The aim is to develop an understanding of PPPD and its interventions, including current trends of VR involvement to extrapolate and re-evaluate VR design strategies. Therefore, recent virtual-reality-based research work that progressed in understanding PPPD is identified, collected, and analysed. This study proposes a novel approach to the understanding of PPPD, specifically for VR technologists, and examines the principles of effectively aligning VR development for PPPD interventions.

In an era where dependence of information systems is significantly high, the threat of incidents related to information security that could jeopardize the information held by is becoming critical. Alarming facts within the literature point to inadequacies in information security practices, particularly the evaluation and prioritization of information security controls in organizations. Research efforts have resulted in various methodologies developed to deal with the ISC assessment problem. A closer look at these traditional methodologies highlights various weaknesses that can prevent effective assessments of information security controls in organizations. This research proposes a novel approach using Grey Relational Analysis to quantify the importance of each information security control taking into account organizations’ goals and objectives. Through a case study, the approach is proven successful in providing a way for measuring the quality of information security controls based on multiple application-specific criteria.

There are studies that connect the “child” in the past with the “parent” in the present through the prism of high levels of stress, guilt, anxiety. This raises the question of the experiences and internal work patterns formed in childhood and developed through parenthood at a later stage. The article (case study) presents the quality of parental capacity of a family raising a child with an autism spectrum. The abilities of parents (the emphasis is on the mother) to recognize and differentiate the mental states of their non-verbal child are discussed. An analysis of the parental representations for the child and the parent–child relationship is developed. The parameters of reflective parenting are measured. The methodology provides good opportunities for identifying deficits in two aspects: parenting and the functioning of the child itself. Without their establishment, therapy could not have a clear perspective. An integrative approach for psychological support of the child and his family is presented: psychological work with the child on the main areas of functioning, in parallel with the therapy conducted with the parents and the mother, as the main caregiver. The changes for the described period are indicated, which are related to the improvement of the parental capacity in the mother and the progress in the therapy in the child. A prognosis for ongoing therapy is given, as well as topics that have arisen in the process of diagnostic procedures.

<p>The purpose of this research study was to explore how individuals’ life-stories impact on their leadership development and affect their educational leadership practices. The context for the study is the Nusa Tenggara Timur Province of Indonesia, where the overall educational achievement statistics rank very low compared to other provinces. There is currently a lack of appropriate educational policy or strategy in this province to enhance academic results. Previous research has identified that the quality of leadership may have an impact on school effectiveness and student outcomes, particularly the leadership of the school principals. Thus, this current research focuses on leadership practices of school principals. This qualitative study employed a case study design and semi-structured interviews and document analysis were used. Data were collected from six school principals from the highest achieving schools in Nusa Tenggara Timur Province, Indonesia and analysed used thematic analysis. Four factors identified from principals’ life experience that appeared to influence leadership practices were: childhood experiences; previous leadership experiences; learning from role models; and values. This study highlights the impact on life experiences on leadership practices such as setting goals and strategies, ensuring the quality of teaching, supporting teachers’ professional development, and creating healthy and safe environments. This study contributes to the existing literature regarding school principal leadership practices, and also makes recommendations to the Nusa Tenggara Timur Province government on the selection processes for educational leaders.</p>

Background. Chronic megacolon is a rare condition which primarily occurs in patients with autonomic dysfunction of a variety of causes. Its management is often challenging and people with chronic megacolon often suffer from abdominal distension, pain, and malabsorption. Given the struggles clinicians experience in managing these patients long term, this case study provides an example of an alternate strategy for the symptomatic management of chronic megacolon. Case Description. An 80-year-old male with early Parkinson’s disease developed megacolon following a basal ganglia stroke. He had a protracted hospital stay over 6 months due to malabsorption requiring total parenteral nutrition and electrolyte disturbances. A trial of subcutaneous neostigmine was unsuccessful, so patient underwent a trial of intermittent rectal tube decompression which improved his symptoms and malabsorption. This technique was then taught to the patient’s wife until she was confident performing this herself. With continuation of decompression approximately every three days, the patient was able to return to oral nutrition and no longer required ongoing electrolyte replacement. He was able to be discharged into the community with significant improvement in his quality of life. Conclusion. This is the first report to suggest the benefit of intermittent rectal tube decompression in the community for the long-term management of chronic megacolon. Further prospective studies should evaluate the potential for this strategy to be implemented in a wider cohort of patients who are not responsive to existing treatments for chronic megacolon.
