Epilepsy influences the quality of patient functioning in almost all aspects of life. This study aimed to assess the quality of difficulties with sleep initiation and those concerning sexual function, and to assess whether sleep disorders are associated with selected aspects of sexual function and quality of life. The study involved completing a quality-of-life questionnaire for persons with epilepsy: a QOLIE-31 questionnaire, and the present authors’ questionnaire, including 20 questions. A total of 170 questionnaires were completed by 89 men and 81 women. Sleep problems of various frequency were reported by 98 participants (57.6%). Only 41% of patients were definitely satisfied with their sex life. The respondents who declared dissatisfaction with their sex life more often reported difficulties with sleep initiation (χ2 = 10.20; p ≤ 0.001). Moreover, those who claimed that epilepsy might contribute to sex life problems more commonly declared dissatisfaction with their sex life (χ2 = 20.01; p ≤ 0.001) and more frequently, reported difficulties with sleep initiation (χ2 = 6.30; p ≤ 0.012). The issues should constitute the constant element of medical history taking, as improvement in these areas of functioning may promote better quality of life in patients with epilepsy.

Introduction: Epilepsy is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system. According to the World Health Organization, it accounts for 1% of the global burden of disease worldwide. Pharmacotherapy remains the primary therapeutic tool in this disease. However, more and more emphasis is placed on approaching this group of patients in an interdisciplinary manner, taking their various needs into account: social, professional, economic or psychological. Attention is also paid to the positive impact of physical activity on the quality of life of patients with epilepsy. The patients with diagnosed epilepsy often complain of a feeling of instability not reflected in standard neurological examination. Early detection of postural control disorders is possible using an objective research tool which is the modified CTSIB test (Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction and Balance). Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to assess the influence of targeted physical therapy on the quality of life among patients with diagnosed epilepsy of unknown etiology using the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire. Materials and methods: The study included 11 professionally active adults with diagnosed generalized epilepsy of unknown etiology, treated at the Department or Outpatient Clinic of Neurology at John Paul II Specialist Hospital in Kraków. Finally, out of the 11 recruited patients (5 women and 6 men), 1 patient was excluded from the study due to a history of craniocerebral trauma. Patients were examined 3 times every month using EEG and the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire. Additionally, between the 2nd and the 3rd month of the pilot study, the study group underwent physical therapy focused on balance disorders using the Biodex SD stabilometric platform. Results: Overall, the quality of life index measured using the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire in the study group improved after the completion of targeted physical therapy. Conclusions: 1. Generalized epilepsy of unknown etiology results in a significant deterioration in the quality of life of patients, which may also be accompanied by disorders of postural control. 2 A targeted program of physiotherapy in the treatment of patients with generalized epilepsy of unknown etiology may has a positive effect on their quality of life. null

This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the sexual functions and quality of life and the problems during menopausal period. This descriptive, cross-sectional study included a total of 317 women. The mean total Female Sexual Function Index score was 18.8 ± 8.7, while the mean total Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire-Female score was 72.7 ± 13.7. Sexual dysfunction was found in 82 percent. There was a positive significant correlation between the total Female Sexual Function Index scores and total Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire-Female scores ( p < 0.05). Our study results suggest that women do not often experience serious menopausal symptoms, but have sexual dysfunction with a moderate sexual quality of life.

Introdution: Epilepsy is known as a cerebrovascular disorder with a continuing readiness for epileptic seizures and psychological neuropsychological outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy on psychological well-being, quality of life and depression in patients with epilepsy. Methods: The study was a quasi- experimental with a pre-test, post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the study consisted of 76 patients, of whom 20 were selected by available sampling method and they were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. The experimental group received the acceptance and commitment group therapy in eight sessions each of which in two hours. Before and after the intervention, the Multidimensional Reef psychological well-being questionnaire, Quality of life questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory was administrated in both groups. Data were analyzed using covariance test and SPSS20 software. Results: The findings of this study showed that acceptance and commitment based treatment had a significant effect on psychological well-being, quality of life and depression in the level of error less than p <0.0001. And the result of P-value was reported as 42.602, 17. 927, 53.528, respectively. Conclusion: The results of this study show that acceptance and commitment therapy is significantly effective in the patients with epilepsy using techniques such as attention to the present time, acceptance and cognitive impairment in increasing psychological well-being and quality of life and reducing depression. Considering the effect of admission therapy and commitment in using this method at all levels of prevention and treatment of the patients with physical and mental illness seems necessary.

ObjectiveSexual activity (SA) and sexual function (SF) after completion of treatment are central for quality of life (QoL) in women affected by gynecological cancer (GC). The aim of this study was to analyze the sexual outcome and overall QoL of women after treatment for primary GC compared with a healthy control group (CG).MethodsIn a multicenter cross-sectional study, 77 women aged 28 to 67 years were surveyed at least 12 months after completion of primary therapy for cervical, endometrial, or vulvar cancer [gynecological cancer group (GCG)]. Data were collected through validated questionnaires (Female Sexual Function Index-d, EORTC Quality of Life Questionnaire-C30, and Sexual Activity Questionnaire) and compared to a control of 60 healthy women (CG).ResultsIn the GCG, 41.3% were sexually active compared to 78.0% in the CG. Twelve women of the CG and 42 women of the GCG indicated the reasons for their sexual inactivity. The most common reason for sexual inactivity in the GCG was “the-presence-of-a-physical-problem” [18/42 (42.9%) vs 2/12 (16.7%) in the CG], whereas in the CG, “because-I-do-not-have-a-partner” was most common [6/12 (50.0%) vs 11/42 (26.2%) in the GCG]. Sexually active patients in the GCG had an SF comparable to the CG. In multivariate analysis of the total cohort (n = 137), relationship status [solid partnership vs living alone; odds ratio (OR), 33.82; 95% confidence interval (CI), 4.83–236.70], smoking (OR, 0.25; 95% CI, 0.06–1.03), and age (OR, 0.87; 95% CI, 0.79–0.94) influenced SA significantly. The probability of SA thereby decreased with increasing age. Quality of life and subjective general health status were not significantly different between the GCG and the CG (EORTC Quality of Life Questionnaire-C30 score 68.25 vs 69.67).ConclusionsA high number of patients with GC remain sexually inactive after treatment, indicating that women experience persistent functional problems. However, women who regain SA after completed treatment have a good overall SF and vice versa.

Abstract Background Although changes in uterine contractility pattern after uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) has already been assessed by cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), their impact on quality of life outcomes has not been evaluated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of uterine contractility on the quality of life of women undergoing UFE measured by the Uterine Fibroid Symptom and Quality of Life questionnaire (UFS-QOL). Results A total of 26 patients were included. MRI scans were acquired 30–7 days before and 6 months after UFE for all patients. The UFS-QOL was applied in person on first MRI exam day and 1 year after UFE and the outcomes were analyzed according to the groups of evolution pattern of uterine contractility: Group A: Unchanged Uterine Contractility Pattern, 38%; Group B: Favorable Modified Uterine Contractility Pattern, 50%; and Group C: Loss of Uterine Contractility, 11%. All UFE patients presented a reduction in the mean score for symptoms and increase in mean scores on quality of life. All patients in this cohort presented a reduction in mean symptom score and increase in the mean score of quality of life subscales. Group A had more relevant complaints regarding their sense of self-confidence; Group B presented worse sexual function scores before UFE, which improved after UFE compared to Group A. Conclusions Significant improvement in symptoms, quality of life, and uterine contractility was observed after UFE in women of reproductive age with symptomatic fibroids. Functional uterine contractility seems to have a positive impact on quality of life and sexual function in this population. Level of evidence Level 3, Non-randomized controlled cohort/follow-up study.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the clinical response of patients with symptoms of genitourinary syndrome of menopause after application of microablative fractional radiofrequency in the vagina and vaginal introitus. Methods: Fourteen patients with symptoms of genitourinary syndrome of menopause underwent three applications of microablative fractional radiofrequency with a 30-day interval, using the Wavetronic 6000HF-FRAXX device and a fractional vaginal electrode. The questionnaires World Health Organization Quality of Life (for quality of life evaluation), Female Sexual Function Index and Quality of Life Adapted Questionnaire in the Domain of Sexual Satisfaction (for sexual function and satisfaction evaluation) were administered before and after the applications (30 to 60 days after the last procedure), in addition to the satisfaction questionnaire after procedure. Results: There was an increase in almost all dimensions on average in quality of life, with statistical significance only in the health domain. There was a significant improvement in the sexual domains in almost all dimensions. All patients stopped using lubricant during intercourse after treatment. In the satisfaction questionnaire after treatment, we observed that the vast majority felt cured or much better (29% and 64%, respectively, total of 92.6%) and were very satisfied or satisfied (43 and 57%, respectively, total of 100%). The only patient who reported little improvement had an 18-year postmenopausal history and was treatment naïve. Conclusion: Microablative fractional radiofrequency was effective in treating symptoms of vaginal dryness and dyspareunia, and eliminated the use of vaginal lubricant during the period observed. Since this is a pilot study with a small number of patients, further studies are required to corroborate our findings and evaluate the long-term effects of microablative fractional radiofrequency on the vaginal tissue.

Background: The affect of Laparascopic Lateral Suspension on quality of life and sexual activity in POP patients. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the quality of life (QOL) and sexual activity after Laparascopic Lateral Suspension (LLS) for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) in Turkish women. The practical success rate and complications related surgery were also analyzed. Study design: Prolapse Quality of Life Questionnaire (P-QOL) was used for investigate QOL in study group. Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was wielded for evaluating sexual function. Both tests were asked before the surgery and 12 months later. The results were recorded and retrospectively analyzed. Results: 237 patients were included in this study. Every P-QOL parameter was markedly recovered postoperatively. The complications detected after the surgery were; side pain 13 (5.5%), POP recurrence 4 (1.6%),de novo stress urinary incontinence 2 (0.8%), mesh erosion 1 (0.4%), and de novo dyspareunia 1 (0.4%).Cause of haven’t got any partner, 124 of the 237 patients (52.3%) reject to finish the FSFI. The rest 113 patients fulfilled the FSFI before and 79 patients completed the FSFI after the surgery. While 13 (5.4%) were sexually active before the surgery, 18 (7.5%) were sexually active after the surgery. The significantly increased domain after surgery was sexual function score with arousal. Conclusion: In this study, low frequency of sexual intercourse was found in Turkish POP population before and also after the operation. However, LLS technic proved fine QOL resuts with a high success rate. Its complications rate is also low. LLS is safe and effective for both sexually active and inactive POP patients.

Erenumab is the first human monoclonal antibody to be approved as a selective therapy for migraine prophylaxis in adults. This study assessed, in a real-world setting, the efficacy of erenumab and its impact on the quality of life (QoL) of Cypriot migraine patients who had failed several treatments in the past. Erenumab was prescribed as a stand-alone or as an add-on therapy to 16 patients with chronic migraine. The first component of the study examined migraine parameters before and after erenumab therapy and included an interim 3-month subjective assessment. In the second component, the patients were asked to complete the validated Migraine-Specific Quality-of-Life Questionnaire—Version 2.1 (MSQ V2.1) during the last month of their individual treatment as a measure of the QoL. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in almost all migraine parameters following erenumab treatment. In the 3-month-interval assessment, 81.3% of the patients reported an improvement in their mental well-being, anxiety, and depression levels, with more than 80% of the patients reporting an improvement in almost all assessed migraine parameters. MSQ V2.1 indicated a good health status in all three domains (mean values > 60 on a scale 0–100), with the “role function preventative” domain having the highest health scores (85). Over a period of 6 months, erenumab was safe, well-tolerated, and effective in preventing migraine symptoms and improving HR-QoL. We conclude that this novel medication, which is not yet part of the national formulary in Cyprus, may be a cost-effective solution in reducing the disease burden of chronic migraine.

Background. Cervical cancer (CC) treatments impact quality of life (QoL) and sexual function (SF) of survivors. Treatment options to reduce sexual dysfunction are limited. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of ospemifene in CC survivors with clinical signs and symptoms of vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA) focusing on their QoL and SF. Materials and Methods. Fifty-two patients with previous diagnosis of stage I-IIa CC suffering from VVA and treated with ospemifene were enrolled into a single arm prospective study. Patient underwent 6 months of therapy. At baseline and after 6 months all subjects performed Vaginal Health Index (VHI). The SF and QoL were measured by The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ) and the Cervical Cancer Module (CXC-24). Results. After treatment a significant improvement of each parameter of VHI has been demonstrated. Global health status and emotional and social functioning scores improved significantly. On the contrary, general symptoms scales did not show significant difference from baseline data. Sexual activity, sexual vaginal functioning, body image, and sexual enjoyment scores increased significantly. Conclusion. Ospemifene seems to be effective in decreasing the VVA symptoms in CC survivors.
