Background and Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic required the adoption of new technologies to improve access to healthcare at an unprecedented speed, as social distancing became mandatory. The aim of this systematic review was to analyze the effectiveness of using new technologies in the rehabilitation of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and discuss their potential role during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods: The studies were identified by searching two online databases—PUBMED and Web of Science. Combinations of the key words “Multiple sclerosis” and “e-health”; “Multiple sclerosis” and “virtual reality”; “Multiple sclerosis” and “telerehabilitation”; “Multiple sclerosis” and “new technologies”; “Multiple sclerosis” and “tele-exercise” were used to find suitable publications. Results: A total of 17 studies were included. Although the overall number of participants in all the studies was 904, two of the studies were conducted on the same group. Thus, a total of 854 participants were involved in the studies included. All participants were diagnosed with MS. In 10 studies, participants had to be diagnosed according to the McDonald criteria. Of the included studies: five involved intervention at participants’ home, six were conducted using Xbox Kinect, and seven studies reported no adverse outcomes. Conclusion: The review proves telerehabilitation to be an effective motivational tool to restore and maintain both physical and cognitive function in patients with MS. Remote communication technologies seem to be measures of high effectiveness in rehabilitating and supporting MS patients especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the traditional rehabilitation option is less accessible or in some cases inaccessible for these patients.

AbstractThis chapter introduces Understanding Energy Innovation, a book that is about the process of digital innovation within the electricity sector, with a focus on the social and political. This chapter covers who the book is for, its aims and themes, summarises key theories of energy innovation, and defines smart grids. Smart grids involve the incorporation of new digital and information and communication technologies into utility infrastructures, and they are used as a case study throughout the book to explore energy innovation. The chapter concludes with a brief history of smart grids.

ABSTRACT This article presents a proposal for redesigning the management of internships by integrating academic and research units, with teachers and students interacting in applied research under the scheme of planned communities of practice, supported by information and communication technologies to facilitate direct or remote communication, capture, processing and consolidation of dispersed knowledge, generating intellectual capital useful for the benefit of businesses and careers involved. Keywords: intellectual capital, community of practice, collaborative learning.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a global health problem that is radically transforming public and private healthcare organizations around the world, negatively affecting the rehabilitative treatments of non-COVID pathologies as well. In this situation, it becomes crucial to be able to guarantee the continuity of care also to all those patients with neurodegenerative diseases unable to reach healthcare services. Remote communication technologies are gaining momentum as potentially effective options to support health care interventions—including cognitive rehabilitation—while patients can stay safely at home. In this context, we are implementing HomeCoRe (i.e., Home Cognitive Rehabilitation software) in order to offer an innovative approach and a valid support for home-based cognitive rehabilitation in neurodegenerative diseases, such as mild cognitive impairment and early dementia. HomeCoRe has been developed within a research project between engineers and clinicians in order to obtain a usable and safe cognitive rehabilitation tool. This software has multiple advantages for patients and therapists over traditional approaches, as shown in its use in hospital settings. HomeCoRe could then represent an opportunity for accessing cognitive rehabilitation in all those situations where patients and therapists are not in the same location due to particular restrictions, such as COVID-19 pandemic.

The pace of the spread of digital technologies is so significant that the manifestations of this process have an obvious manifestation even in everyday life. However, the active use of these technologies in all spheres of economic activity, the digitalization of the economy has been taking place over the past few decades. The current stage can be defined as one during which the processes of digitalization have gained a particularly intensive character. There are a large number of aspects of digitalization, one of which is the need for all members of society to acquire digital competencies. For each person, the acquisition of appropriate digital competencies is of crucial practical importance: now entire spheres of economic activity are abandoning direct interaction with customers, and using information and communication technologies for remote communication and self-service organization. Consequently, the concept of "digital competencies" is constantly expanding, and it can no longer be limited only to the educational sphere. There are several approaches to understanding the content of the concept of "digital competencies"; according to one of the generally accepted interpretations, digital competencies (in relation to a certain person) are the knowledge and skills that are necessary for the correct, effective and safe use of digital technologies, as well as existence in a society that is saturated with digital technologies.

This work paper aims to discuss the new time and space orientations imposed by transnational companies, mostly supported by the advances of remote communication technologies which has been developed towards to better control new production systems and industrial partnerships. On the other hand, these technologies make new labor forms and relationships possible. In the background of the changes are the efforts to control the variability of the whole organizational environment towards the control of the individual space through global markets. The methodology approach is based on qualitative analysis and bibliografic research related to the taylorist industrial model, organizational culture and employee’s management tools. The conclusion indicates that labor relations are changing and also the individual organizational spaces and roles, previously defined by scientific management. Globalization and a new economic global order, controlled by transnational companies, lead to the rapid rebuilding of organizational reality and competitiveness model, and also interfere with the political and social space of the new industrial localities.
