To investigate the effect of hydrogen on the high-temperature deformation behaviors of TiAl-based alloys, the high-temperature tensile experiment was carried out on a Ti–45Al–9Nb (at.%) alloy with the H content of 0 and 0.8 at.%, respectively. Then, the effect of hydrogen on the high-temperature mechanical properties of the as-cast alloy was studied, the constitutive relations among stress, temperature, and strain rate were established, and the microstructure was analyzed. The results indicated that, compared with the unhydrogenated alloy, the flow stress of the hydrogenated alloy was significantly reduced, and the peak stress of the hydrogenated alloy decreased by (16.28 ± 0.17)% deformed at 1150 °C/0.0004 s−1. Due to the presence of hydride (TiAl)Hx in the alloy, the elongation showed a decline trend with increasing strain rate at the same deformation temperature. Compared with the unhydrogenated alloy, the elongation of the hydrogenated alloy reduced by (26.05 ± 0.45)% (0.0004 s−1), (23.49 ± 0.38)% (0.001 s−1), and (14.23 ± 0.19)% (0.0025 s−1), respectively, indicating that 0.8 at.% H softened the Ti–45Al–9Nb alloy and reduced the high-temperature plastic deformability. Under the same deformation condition, the deformation extent of the hydrogenated alloy was less than that of the unhydrogenated alloy. There were more residual lamellae in the hydrogenated alloy, and the extent of dynamic recrystallization was lower than that of the unhydrogenated alloy.

Hot deformation behavior of the 30%Mo/Cu-Al2O3 composite was investigated by hot compression tests on Gleeble-1500D thermal simulator in the temperature ranges of 450~750°C and the strain rate ranges of 0.01~5s-1, as the total strain is 0.7. The results show that the peak stress increases with the decreased deformation temperature or the increased strain rate. Based on the true stress-strain curves, the established constitutive equation represents the high-temperature flow behavior of the composite, and the calculated flow stresses are in good agreement with the high- temperature deformation experimental results.

To refine thick and brittle needle-like or sheet-like iron-rich phase in Al-Fe-based alloy, electromagnetic cast and solid extrusion were adopted for the preparation of billet of rolled alloy Al-5%Fe-1.2%Si-1%Mg-0.6%Cu-0.5%Mn. Studies were made of the effect of rolling process on the microstructure and mechanical properties especially on the mechanical properties at high temperature. The hot deformation behavior of Al-Fe alloy was simulated at the strain rate of 0.01s-1 to 10s-1 and the temperature between 783K and 693K. The results indicate that there is significant steady-state rheological feature on the alloy’s high temperature deformation and the flow stress is sensitive to strain rate and temperature. The tensile strength of the alloy can reach 348MPa at 150°C and 170 MPa at 300°C but with a drop of around 40% than that at room temperature, indicating that heat resistance of the alloy is better at 150-200°C, the strength simulated long at 80°C can reach 275MPa, with rather good thermal stability.

In order to analyze high temperature deformation behavior of NiAl alloys, deformation maps were constructed for stoichiometric NiAl materials with grain sizes of 4 and 200 µm. Relevant constitute equations and calculation method will be described in this paper. These maps are particularly useful in identifying the location of testing domains, such as creep and tensile tests, in relation to the stress-temperature-strain rate domains experienced by NiAl.

AbstractHigh temperature deformation behavior of BFe10-1-2 cupronickel alloy was investigated by means of isothermal compression tests in the temperature range of 1,023~1,273 K and strain rate range of 0.001~10 s–1. Based on orthogonal experiment and variance analysis, the significance of the effects of strain, strain rate and deformation temperature on the flow stress was evaluated. Thereafter, a constitutive equation was developed on the basis of the orthogonal analysis conclusions. Subsequently, standard statistical parameters were introduced to verify the validity of developed constitutive equation. The results indicated that the predicted flow stress values from the constitutive equation could track the experimental data of BFe10-1-2 cupronickel alloy under most deformation conditions.

Creep behavior of solid solution alloys are reasonably explained by concepts of the “internal and effective stress of high temperature deformation”. The internal stress is considered to be brought by formation of dislocation substructures, and the dislocation structures should have caused long range stress filed in interior of materials. Thus, residual stresses should also be brought by the same origin. In this paper, measurements of the residual stresses after creep deformation by 2D-Xray method are attempt, and the stresses are compared with so-called the “internal stress of high temperature deformation” measured by strain-dip stress-transient test. Although, the stress tensor depends on the deformation condition, the relation with the applied stress show complex manner at a glance. The maximum principal stresses, however, show relatively smaller than the applied stress, and fairly agree with that measured by strain-dip stress-transient technique. Importance of further considerations of the origin of so-called internal stresses is suggested.
