We present a comprehensive, detailed review of time-series data analysis, with emphasis on deep time-series clustering (DTSC), and a case study in the context of movement behavior clustering utilizing the deep clustering method. Specifically, we modified the DCAE architectures to suit time-series data at the time of our prior deep clustering work. Lately, several works have been carried out on deep clustering of time-series data. We also review these works and identify state-of-the-art, as well as present an outlook on this important field of DTSC from five important perspectives.

Clustering of subsequence time series remains an open issue in time series clustering. Subsequence time series clustering is used in different fields, such as e-commerce, outlier detection, speech recognition, biological systems, DNA recognition, and text mining. One of the useful fields in the domain of subsequence time series clustering is pattern recognition. To improve this field, a sequence of time series data is used. This paper reviews some definitions and backgrounds related to subsequence time series clustering. The categorization of the literature reviews is divided into three groups: preproof, interproof, and postproof period. Moreover, various state-of-the-art approaches in performing subsequence time series clustering are discussed under each of the following categories. The strengths and weaknesses of the employed methods are evaluated as potential issues for future studies.

It is alleged that the agricultural output in poor countries responds very little to movements in prices and costs because of subsistence-oriented produc¬tion and self-produced inputs. The work of Gupta and Majid is concerned with the empirical verification of the responsiveness of farmers to prices and marketing policies in a backward region. The authors' analysis of the respon¬siveness of farmers to economic incentives is based on two sets of data (concern¬ing sugarcane, cash crop, and paddy, subsistence crop) collected from the district of Deoria in Eastern U.P. (Utter Pradesh) a chronically foodgrain deficit region in northern India. In one set, they have aggregate time-series data at district level and, in the other, they have obtained data from a survey of five villages selected from 170 villages around Padrauna town in Deoria.

This paper explores the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Pakistan, applying techniques of co-integration and Hsiao’s version of Granger causality, using time series data over the period 1965-2019. Time series data of macroeconomic determi-nants – i.e. energy growth, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) growth and population growth shows a positive correlation with economic growth while there is no correlation founded be-tween economic growth and inflation rate or Consumer Price Index (CPI). The general conclu-sion of empirical results is that economic growth causes energy consumption.

The objective of this paper is to examine the effects of international trade and investment related macro economic variables, namely, exports, imports and FDI inflows on the outflows of FDI from India over 1970 through 2005. Using time series data analysis, the empirical part of the paper finds unidirectional Granger Causality from export and import to FDI outflows but no such causality exists from FDI inflows to the corresponding outflows from India. Results confirm the assumption that lagged imports and exports are a driving force of ing front.

Innovations and applicability of time series data mining techniques have significantly increased the researchers' interest in the problem of time series classification. Several algorithms have been proposed for this purpose categorized under shapelet, interval, motif, and whole series-based techniques. Among this, the bag-of-words technique, an extensive application of the text mining approach, performs well due to its simplicity and effectiveness. To extend the efficiency of the bag-of-words technique, this paper proposes a discriminate supervised weighted scheme to identify the characteristic and representative pattern of a class for efficient classification. This paper uses a modified weighted matrix that discriminates the representative and non-representative pattern which enables the interpretability in classification. Experimentation has been carried out to compare the performance of the proposed technique with state-of-the-art techniques in terms of accuracy and statistical significance.
