The application of a distribution static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) is the best technical means to solve the problem of reactive power compensation and harmonics. The D-STATCOM system has the characteristics of variable parameters, strong coupling, nonlinearity and multi-variability. In order to improve the speed of the dynamic tracking response and anti-disturbance capability of the D-STATCOM, the article proposes an improved Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Controller (LADRC) based on the total disturbance deviation control method. Combined with double closed-loop control, the inner loop takes the current as the state variable, and the outer loop uses the DC side output voltage as the state variable to achieve robust stability of the D-STATCOM and controller output. The simulation results show that the improved LADRC is more stable than the traditional LADRC in controlling the DC voltage waveform of the compensator, reactive current tracking and reactive power compensation waveform when it is disturbed, which verifies the superiority and feasibility of the improved LADRC.

To realize the STATCOM based on Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC), a simplified double-closed loop structure, simplifying from the control method of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) based on MMC, is presented. Considering MMCs DC side using capacitors, a part-controlling method based on energy balancing is proposed, to solve the voltage balancing problem. With the part-controlling fixing the changing capacitors voltage and the simplified double-closed loop control method, voltage fluctuation could be reduced, and the loads reactive power could be compensated. The correctness and the effectiveness of the MMC-STATCOM controlling scheme is verified by Matlab/Simulink.

In this paper, we investigate an alternate approach to the design of controllers for positioning and damping of a system which can be reduced to an equivalent system of springs and masses. The approach taken is to design a controller which uses open-loop positioning followed by closed-loop control for damping. By so doing, we can avoid a conflicting requirements problem associated with traditional state variable feedback design. The open-loop portion of the control is based on optimal control theory, which allows for control saturation. In particular, during this phase of the control, the time to position is minimized. This results in a bang-bang type of control. Once the system has been “positioned,” the controller switches to a closed-loop phase. The particular closed-loop control used here is based on energy methods and is not a full state variable feedback design. The method is illustrated using a low-order spring-mass example, and the results are compared with an LQ design.

The cutter head drive hydraulic system of φ1.8m simulate shield machine is introduced in this article, which has the variable speed pump control technique and the closed loop control method. The AMESim simulation model of the hydraulic system is built up, and the efficiency of the hydraulic system, speed control performance by open loop and closed loop control are analyzed. The result of the simulation shows that the variable speed pump control system has higher efficiency than the variable displacement pump control system about 4%-26% in the same condition when the cutter head speed is at the range of 0.5-4r/min, and the hydraulic system has good dynamic characteristics in closed-loop PID control.
