This study is focused on energy production in Albania which involves different types of infrastructure at the various points of the energy production and distribution chain, as well as monitoring and early warning systems. At a time of rapid climate change, estimating the appropriate dimensions and design of such infrastructure and systems becomes crucial. The main objective is to analyze the seasonality pattern and main external climacteric factors, such as precipitation, average temperature, and water inflow. This work deals with the seasonality patterns of climacteric factors affecting energy production and considers different statistical learning methods for prediction.

Indonesia is a member of Southeast Asia Regional Office (SEARO) ranked the first in dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) problem based on incidence rate (IR)and case fatality rate (CFR). Several provinces in Indonesia experience an outbreak, one of which is the Mataram City in West Nusa Tenggara Province.Mataram City is an endemic area of DHF because the DHF cases are always found in three consecutive years with the number of cases that fluctuate andtend to increase. This study aimed to obtain factors that could be used to improve early warning systems in controlling DHF. This study used a case controldesign with a ratio of 1:1 to 180 house holds. The results showed that home environmental factors, such as no ceiling, indoor and outdoor temperature thathad the potential for breeding places for mosquitoes, no wire net in ventilation, low lighting and high humidity, related to DHF transmission. Vector distibutionwith entomology index showed that the existence of larvae, eggs and mosquitoes played a role in dengue transmission. The dominant factors affecting the transmission of dengue in Mataram City are the condition of the ceiling and the existence of mosquito eggs in the house.

Abstract Polish accession to the EU was followed by a need of adaptation of Polish legislation to the European requirements, also with regard to the energetic sector. The need of achieving 15% share of electric power from renewable sources in the total energy consumption till the year 2010 is a consequence of this decision. This target may be achieved in Polish conditions based on water and wind energy and from biomass combustion. The paper presents the influence of hydrologic conditions and technical parameters on the amount of produced energy. Factors affecting energy production in small hydropower plants were analysed. The formula was proposed to describe the effect of water flow in a river on energy production in small hydropower plants.

India has always been a disaster-prone country, with multiple states afflicted by different types of disasters. The impact of these disasters is exacerbated when an area is prone to multiple types of disasters. This study attempts to understand the impact of natural and man-made disasters on the people of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh region in India as well as it also examines the resilience mechanisms adopted by the people, and identifies measures taken by the government in response to these disasters. To understand these disasters’ dynamics, we conducted both offline and online desk reviews for this study. The review suggests that J&K and Ladakh region is afflicted not only by multiple natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, avalanches, and landslides but also by the terrorism and violence, which has caused unparalleled death and destruction. These natural and man-made disasters have adversely affected most aspects of life and development in the region. To mitigate the risks, effective disaster risk reduction and management systems, early warning systems and infrastructure need to be strengthened. In addition, community engagement needs to be enhanced with the goal of addressing the grievances of the population and engaging them in the design and implementation of sustainable development programs.

Abstract:Since the 1950s, national networks for the surveillance of influenza have been progressively implemented in several countries. New epidemiological arguments have triggered changes in order to increase the sensitivity of existent early warning systems and to strengthen the communications between European networks. The WHO project CARE Telematics, which collects clinical and virological data of nine national networks and sends useful information to public health administrations, is presented. From the results of the 1993-94 season, the benefits of the system are discussed. Though other telematics networks in this field already exist, it is the first time that virological data, absolutely essential for characterizing the type of an outbreak, are timely available by other countries. This argument will be decisive in case of occurrence of a new strain of virus (shift), such as the Spanish flu in 1918. Priorities are now to include other existing European surveillance networks.
