(1) Background: There are many complexities and trade-offs that design teams consider when designing or renovating a built environment for healthcare. Virtual reality (VR) mock-ups can allow design teams to evaluate the planned design. This study aimed to examine the overall value of using VR mock-ups to conduct a simulation-based mock-up evaluation. (2) Methods: Data collected from scenario enactments within a VR mock-up was compared to data collected from an existing medication room with the same design to assess predictive validity. Outcomes regarding quality and patient safety were also examined as a result of design modifications to the VR mock-up which were identified through a post-occupancy evaluation (POE) of the existing medication room. Survey data from participants, hospital design stakeholders, and POE recommendation recipients captured perceptions regarding the evaluation process. Specifically, this included perceptions regarding mock-up and scenario realism as well as utility of the evaluation process. (3) Results: Evidence-based data collected using the VR mock-up accurately assessed workflow (link analysis), bumps, impediments, interruptions, and task completion times. Collecting data pertaining to selection errors and equipment placement were identified after procuring the VR software and therefore the accuracy of these measures was not assessed. Searching behaviours were not possible to capture using the VR software. A 506% return on investment was achieved through the VR mock-up evaluations. (4) Conclusion: Organizations should consider what evaluation objectives are planned and how they will be measured for a mock-up evaluation to determine if VR is appropriate.

Automobile styling design is an important part of the design chain. In the traditional automobile modeling evaluation, the process of project evaluation is more in-depth, and designers exchange ideas. Different designers have different evaluations of automobile styling. The evaluation process lasts a long time, which leads to the design cycle being too long and the efficiency of automobile modeling evaluation is greatly reduced. The introduction of virtual reality in automobile modeling evaluation can effectively optimize the evaluation process and promote the rapid adjustment of the model on the basis of development. From the virtual reality system based on mechanical engineering, we only need the parameters of the car model to observe the actual situation through VR technology, and use the measurement tools to directly and accurately evaluate the driver’s field of vision. Through the application of virtual reality technology in the automobile design stage, the interactive and network-based remote research on automobile modeling will also make the automobile design process more convenient, easier to communicate with designers, and reduce the development cycle and cost of automobile design.

Validation of the EBD-SIM (evidence-based design-simulation) framework, a conceptual framework developed to integrate the use of lighting simulation in the EBD process, suggested that EBD’s post-occupancy evaluation (POE) should be conducted more frequently. A follow-up field study was designed for subjective–objective results implementation in the EBD process using lighting simulation tools. In this real-time case study, the visual comfort of the occupants was evaluated. The visual comfort analysis data were collected via simulations and questionnaires for subjective visual comfort perceptions. The follow-up study, conducted in June, confirmed the results of the original study, conducted in October, but additionally found correlations with annual performance metrics. This study shows that, at least for the variables related to daylight, a POE needs to be conducted at different times of the year to obtain a more comprehensive insight into the users’ perception of the lit environment.

Based on analysis of the application status of the virtual reality technology and energy simulation technology in energy-efficient building, authors put organic combination with the virtual reality technology and energy simulation technology. Application methods of virtual simulation are discussed in integrated design of solar energy and building. And the evaluation process of solar energy and building integrated design is put forward. At the same time, according to the software of 3D Studio MAX and ECOTECT, the paper studies the case of solar energy and building integrated design virtual simulation.

Automobile architecture is a crucial phase in the process of design. The model assessment process in the hybrid vehicle modeling assessment becomes more in-depth, and designers exchange ideas. The critical aspect of automotive modeling is that various models have varying views on vehicle styling. The evaluation process is long, complicated, and efficient in automotive simulation. The evaluation process takes time. Therefore, in the paper, an Automobile Modelling Optimization Design Based on Virtual Reality Technology (AMOD-VRT) is proposed to improve automobile modeling and design research to be more interactive. Computational Design Method is used to create and design the entire vehicle as well as its surrounding environment. An Integrated Virtual Analysis can enclose the models mentioned above and create a virtual environment in which the user can interact to design a model virtually by themselves. The paper provides complete virtual design modeling of an automobile, allowing the user to work more efficiently based on the results. By applying virtual reality technology in the automobile design phase, interactive and network-based remote research on automobile modeling can make the automobile design progression more appropriate, easier to communicate with designers and decrease automobile design’s development cost and cycle. The simulation analysis is performed based on safety, performance, and efficiency, proving the reliability of the proposed framework. Various parameters obtain the simulation results on automobile design as the automobile vehicle design performance ratio is 87.16%, increasing the visual effects in AMOD ratio is 88.77%, improving visual effects with optimized design ratio is 84.5%, interaction and collaboration of automobile modeling ratio are 82.26% and reduce vehicles accident using virtual reality ratio is 93.80%. The computer-based virtual reality technology in the automotive industry can effectively accelerate new product development in the future.

Virtual reality in one form or another has been around for over 50 years, most notably in entertainment and business environments. Technology-focused teachers have been leading the way with attempts at utilising and integrating virtual reality into K-12 and Higher Education. However, as quickly as technology changes so does the enthusiasm for the use in educational contexts. Much of this is due to the high-level cost (time and money) with no evidence-based educational return. In 2020 the global pandemic forced the education sector to innovate to provide authentic learning environments for students. The time is right for virtual reality to take centre stage. Over 171 million people worldwide currently use virtual reality, and the market in education is expected to grow by 42% over the next five years. This paper focuses on a range of virtual reality literature encompassing work across the spectrum of software and hardware, identifying where more educational implementation and research needs to be done and providing a perspective on future possibilities focusing on current affordances.

Abstract:Proponents of evidence-based policy (EBP) call for public policy to be informed by high-quality evidence from randomized controlled trials. This methodological preference aims to promote several epistemic values, e.g. rigour, unbiasedness, precision, and the ability to obtain causal conclusions. I argue that there is a trade-off between these epistemic values and several non-epistemic, moral and political values. This is because the evidence afforded by standard EBP methods is differentially useful for pursuing different moral and political values. I expand on how this challenges ideals of value-freedom and -neutrality in EBP, and offer suggestions for how EBP methodology might be revised.
