Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic interstitial lung disease characterised by a progressive and irreversible decline in lung function, which is associated with poor long-term survival. The pathogenesis of IPF is incompletely understood. An accumulating body of evidence, obtained over the past three decades, suggests that occupational and environmental exposures may play a role in the development of IPF. This narrative literature review aims to summarise current understanding and the areas of ongoing research into the role of occupational and environmental exposures in the pathogenesis of IPF.

Tendinopathies are very common in general population and a huge number of tendon-related procedures take place annually worldwide, with significant socio-economic repercussions. Numerous treatment options are commonly used for tendon disorders. Besides pharmacological and physical therapy, nutrition could represent an additional tool for preventing and treating this complex pathology that deserve a multidisciplinary approach. In recent years, nutraceutical products are growing up in popularity since these seem to favor the prevention and the healing processes of tendon injuries. This narrative literature review aims to summarize current understanding and the areas of ongoing research about the management of tendinopathies with the help of oral supplementation.

Background: Paediatric palliative care (PPC) is an active, total approach to the holistic care of the child and family. Close, long-lasting relationships between healthcare professionals and parents in paediatric palliative care enhance quality, provide emotional support and can influence how parents manage their role in the face of uncertainty. Aim: To present a narrative literature review of long-term relationships between children's nurses and parents in PPC settings. Methods: Six databases (CINAHL, PsycINFO, ASSIA, Scopus, Medline and BNI) were searched, identifying 35 articles. A grey literature search produced seven additional relevant items. Findings: Four themes were identified: bonds; attachments and trust; sharing the journey; going the extra mile; and boundaries and integrity. All themes revealed an element of tension between closeness and professionalism. Conclusion: Gaining a greater understanding of how closeness and professionalism are successfully managed by children's palliative care nurses could positively influence pre- and post-registration nurse education.

INTRODUCTION: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that arises from an interaction of local dysbiosis in the subgingival biofilm and the host immune response. The disease triggers an inflammatory process that can cause periodontal tissue breakdown. In addition, the production of inflammatory mediators can negatively affect other areas of the body and influence the development and/or severity of associated disorders, including asthma, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. OBJECTIVE: Conduct a literature review to comprehensively investigate the role of ST2 and IL-33 and the contribution of the IL-33 / ST2 axis in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. METHODS: It is a narrative literature review, which used the databases Pubmed and Academic Google a total of 114 results. RESULTS: A range of immunological markers has been shown to be relevant in the immunopathogenesis of periodontitis, cytokines of the interleukin 1 (IL-1) family, such as IL-1β and IL-33. IL-33, through its ST2 receptor, appears to be involved in the development of periodontitis, acting as a molecule that signals tissue damage from infection and also emits an endogenous signal that activates the immune response and / or worsens bone resorption by activating osteoclastogenesis, either through increases in RANK-L and reduced OPG, or regardless of that pathway. CONCLUSION: The diversity of information contained in the methodologies of these studies hampers attempts to standardize and make correlations between published data, in this sense, the IL-33 / ST2 axis remains a relevant topic in investigations focused on the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease.

There is a wide acknowledgement of obesity as a relevant clinical entity. Such relevance can be inferred by the huge worldwide amount of research and related health promotion and clinical efforts. Though the evidence sustains some cues for the therapeutic success, the overall long-term effectiveness of obesity treatment tends to be not so satisfactory. Scientific literature is not unequivocal in key areas of nutritional intervention, such as the magnitude of caloric restriction, proportion of macronutrients, meal frequency, among others. The same applies to the area of physical activity recommendation for weight control. As a correlate of this scenario of incertitude, there is a proliferation of interventions and there is a clear need to integrate the scientific and clinical evidence. This paper presents a narrative literature review of key issues of clinical practice in obesity, regarding a set of actions that, in the overall, have as main purpose the promotion<br />of reduction and/or control of body weight. The role of the health professional is highlighted as a facilitator of acquisition of habits that favor weight control, by integrating the professional’s scientific knowledge with the patient’s readiness for and capacity to change.
