With a fascinating complexity, governed by multiple physiological processes, the skin is considered a mantle with protective functions which during lifetime are frequently impaired, triggering dermatologic disorders. As one of the most prevalent dermatologic conditions worldwide, characterized by a complex pathogenesis and a high recurrence, acne can affect the patient’s quality of life. Smart topical vehicles represent a good option in the treatment of a versatile skin condition. By surpassing the stratum corneum known for diffusional resistance, a superior topical bioavailability can be obtained at the affected place. In this direction, the literature study presents microemulsions as a part of a condensed group of modern formulations. Microemulsions are appreciated for their superior profile in matters of drug delivery, especially for challenging substances with hydrophilic or lipophilic structures. Formulated as transparent and thermodynamically stable systems, using simplified methods of preparation, microemulsions have a simple and clear appearance. Their unique structures can be explained as a function of the formulation parameters which were found to be the mainstay of a targeted therapy.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that can negatively affect a patient's quality of life (QoL), often hindering social functioning. ISA247, a novel psoriatic agent, has shown clinical efficacy in moderate to severe psoriasis sufferers, but its effect on QoL is currently not reported. Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the effect of ISA247 on the QoL in patients with stable, plaque-type psoriasis. Methods: A phase II, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter study assessed the effects of ISA247 doses of 0.5 mg/kg/d ( n = 77) or 1.5 mg/kg/d ( n = 83) compared with placebo ( n = 41) for 12 weeks. QoL was assessed using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Psoriasis Disability Index (PDI) scales. Results: ISA247 treatment (pooled groups) significantly improved QoL scores as assessed by both the DLQI and the PDI compared with those receiving placebo ( p < .05). Treatment with the higher dose of 1.5 mg/kg/d demonstrated a significantly greater response to many of the QoL scales compared with the 0.5 mg/kg/d group ( p < .05). Conclusions: ISA247 appears to improve the QoL while also providing effective treatment for chronic, moderate to severe, plaque-type psoriasis.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is one the most common allergic diseases affecting from 10 to 40% of the population in different countries, including Russia. AR is a risk factor of bronchial asthma, other upper airway disease and may decrease patient quality of life, their productivity, increase probability of occupational traumatism, depression and anxiety. AR also presents a substantial economic burden. The rationale to use fixed dose combination of intranasal steroids and topical H1 antihistamines includes suboptimal control of symptoms by monotherapy, its complementary pharmacologic activity and the results of clinical trials. This review focused on fixed dose combination of intranasal mometasone furoate and olopataine. Double blind placebo-controlled and open clinical trials have confirmed that this combination decreased severity of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial AR, improved patient quality of life and had a good tolerability. Its efficacy was higher than those of monotherapy. Fast onset of action and sustainable effect on symptoms (during 1 yr) may improve adherence patients to the treatment and control of symptoms of AR.

Aim: to systematize data on rehabilitation methods and management tactics for women with external form of genital endometriosis.Materials and Methods. We searched for publications in international scientific databases: scientific electronic library eLibrary, Scholar, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, PubMed/MEDLINE for the last 5 years. The data on the modern approach to the therapy and rehabilitation of women with external genital endometriosis are presented. Search terms in Russian and English were used: “endometriosis”, “rehabilitation”, “gynecology”, “quality of life”.Results. Endometriosis is considered an independent risk factor for the development of malignant tumors not only of the reproductive system, but also of the large intestine, bladder, mammary glands. The review presents a current view of the treatment and rehabilitation of women with external genital endometriosis. Endometriosis is a polyetiological disease that can manifest itself as dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, chronic pelvic pain, as well as dysuria and dyshesia when involving adjacent organs in the pathological process. Relapses, infertility, emotional and psychosexual disorders, problems with socialization are often detected in these patients.Conclusion. It is necessary not only to conduct comprehensive treatment, but also to develop personalized rehabilitation programs that can improve the quality of life, as well as create comfortable conditions for social adaptation in society.

Background: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignancy in women worldwide. Breast cancer tends to metastasize to bone. Around 70% of the breast cancer patients eventually develop bone metastasis. After the bone invasion, metastatic cells disrupt the balance between osteoblastic and osteoclastic activities, leading to skeletal complications, characterized by pain and pathological fractures and hence worsening the patient's quality of life. Once tumor invades the bone, it is hard to treat it with, the so-far available treatments options (e.g. bisphosphonates and denosumab). Bone metastasis should be essentially controlled, in cancer treatment and there is a strong need to explore new, more efficient therapeutic targets. This review discusses the bone physiological processes and the recent advances in exploring different pathways involved in bone metastasis. Furthermore, some novel treatment options, which are under preclinical and clinical investigations, are highlighted. Conclusion: A deeper understanding of these metastatic pathways can provide oncology researchers with novel avenues for treating bone metastasis, one of the main challenges to cure breast cancer. The restoration of healthy bone environment will not only improve the patient's quality of life but also reduces the tumor burden.
