The incredible success of crop breeding and agricultural innovation in the last century greatly contributed to the Green Revolution, which significantly increased yields and ensures food security, despite the population explosion. However, new challenges such as rapid climate change, deteriorating soil, and the accumulation of pollutants require much faster responses and more effective solutions that cannot be achieved through traditional breeding. Further prospects for increasing the efficiency of agriculture are undoubtedly associated with the inclusion in the breeding strategy of new knowledge obtained using high-throughput technologies and new tools in the future to ensure the design of new plant genomes and predict the desired phenotype. This article provides an overview of the current state of research in these areas, as well as the study of soil and plant microbiomes, and the prospective use of their potential in a new field of microbiome engineering. In terms of genomic and phenomic predictions, we also propose an integrated approach that combines high-density genotyping and high-throughput phenotyping techniques, which can improve the prediction accuracy of quantitative traits in crop species.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is becoming more and more an industrial standard for the AEC industry that can provide an integrated approach for effectively managing data and information throughout a project lifecycle. Planning, design, and construction phases of different types of projects can benefit from integrating other technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) with BIM to enhance its functionalities, including virtual walkthrough, schedule visualization, clash detection, and as-built modeling. Additionally, asset management functions during the maintenance and operation phase of facilities and infrastructure can substantially benefit from this kind of integration. This paper will provide a comprehensive review upon several emerging technologies regarding (1) technological advancements reflected by software and hardware development, (2) applications in the design, construction and asset management through integration with BIM in all phases of projects, and (3) current state of research and practice. It will specifically, provide some limiting factors that prevent VR/AR from further deployment, including lack of GPS accuracy, complexity in development and unclear data security will be explained. AbstractAutophagy and mitophagy play a central role in cellular homeostasis. In pathological conditions, the flow of autophagy and mitophagy can be affected at multiple and distinct steps of the pathways. Unfortunately, the level of detail of current state of the art analyses does not allow detection or dissection of pathway intermediates. Moreover, is conducted in low-throughput manner on bulk cell populations. Defining autophagy and mitophagy pathway intermediates in a high-throughput manner is technologically challenging, and has not been addressed so far. Here, we overcome those limitations and developed a novel high-throughput phenotyping platform with automated high-content image analysis to assess autophagy and mitophagy pathway intermediates.

Purpose: This paper is a thematic literature review to examine the current state of research about Culturally Responsive Pedagogy in mathematics. The main themes are students’ perception, teacher education for pre-service teacher and professional development for teachers. Research methods/ approach: Literature was collected from Eric, which is a research engine of the education field. Also, Google Scholar is used to find articles of major scholars introduced by Dr. Rich Milner, who is the instructor of this course. Findings: Students faced microaggressions in mathematics class, which discouraged them to learn mathematics. The effect of teacher education was inconsistent in terms of the awareness of culturally responsive pedagogy and lesson plans. Research of professional development mentioned that mathematics was cultural. Implications for research and practice: It is more interesting to conduct long term or follow-up research to find the teacher’s practice after a taking professional development program. Also, it is critical to expand research scope besides African American and Latino students. Finally, evidence-based research is needed to change the political situation. Olfaction, the sense of smell, is characterized by a notable age-dependency such that aging individuals are more likely to have poor olfactory abilities. These impairments are considered to be mostly irreversible and as having potentially profound effects on quality of life and food behavior, as well as constituting warning signs of mortality, cognitive dysfunction, and dementia. Here, we review the current state of research on aging and olfaction, focusing on five topics which we regard to be of particular relevance for the field: nutrition and health, cognition and dementia, mortality, environment and genetics, and training-based enhancement. Under each of these headlines, we provide a state-of-the-art overview and discuss gaps in our knowledge which might be filled by further research. Understanding how olfactory abilities are diminished in aging, and how they may be alleviated or recovered, involves a set of challenging tasks for researchers in the years to come.

Fierce competition has made innovation increasingly necessary for business success, and this has increased the importance of user-based innovation strategies like design thinking (DT). While many studies in technical and professional communication (TPC) have explored how DT can be used pedagogically, no studies have done this through investigating how DT is used as a workplace composing process. This study does exactly that. First, it presents the current state of research on pedagogical uses of DT in TPC, and then it builds upon those suggestions with an empirical study that chronicles on how two web design firms use DT to make websites. My main suggestion is to teach DT as a recursive process that allows students transcend potentially incorrect assumptions built into design tasks through gathering data not only from users, but from clients as well.
