In this paper, a fixed-point iterative filter developed from the classical extended Kalman filter (EKF) was proposed for general nonlinear systems. As a nonlinear filter developed from EKF, the state estimate was obtained by applying the Kalman filter to the linearized system by discarding the higher-order Taylor series items of the original nonlinear system. In order to reduce the influence of the discarded higher-order Taylor series items and improve the filtering accuracy of the obtained state estimate of the steady-state EKF, a fixed-point function was solved though a nested iterative method, which resulted in a fixed-point iterative filter. The convergence of the fixed-point function is also discussed, which provided the existing conditions of the fixed-point iterative filter. Then, Steffensen’s iterative method is presented to accelerate the solution of the fixed-point function. The final simulation is provided to illustrate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed nonlinear filtering method.

In this chapter, firstly we apply the iterative method to establish the existence of the positive solution for a type of nonlinear singular higher-order fractional differential equation with fractional multi-point boundary conditions. Explicit iterative sequences are given to approximate the solutions and the error estimations are also given. Secondly, we cover the multi-valued case of our problem. We investigate it for nonconvex compact valued multifunctions via a fixed point theorem for multivalued maps due to Covitz and Nadler. Two illustrative examples are presented at the end to illustrate the validity of our results.

In this paper we develop an observer for nonlinear systems with quantized outputs. The observer is a recursive algorithm based on the intersection of sets: each measurement defines a set in state space which, by recursive intersection, is used to refine knowledge of the state. We develop the necessary data structures and procedures to implement the algorithm numerically. Comparisons are drawn between the proposed observer, the Kalman filter, and the equations of nonlinear filtering. Estimates are given for the error due to the triangulation of the set of consistent states and the computational complexity of the numerical implementation of our observer. Finally, the algorithm is applied to two example systems.

The multi-sensor information fusion particle filter (PF) has been put forward for nonlinear systems with correlated noises. The proposed algorithm uses the Taylor series expansion method, which makes the nonlinear measurement functions have a linear relationship by the intermediary function. A weighted measurement fusion PF (WMF-PF) was put forward for systems with correlated noises by applying the full rank decomposition and the weighted least square theory. Compared with the augmented optimal centralized fusion particle filter (CF-PF), it could greatly reduce the amount of calculation. Moreover, it showed asymptotic optimality as the Taylor series expansion increased. The simulation examples illustrate the effectiveness and correctness of the proposed algorithm.

AbstractNonlinear filter problems arise in many applications such as communications and signal processing. Commonly used numerical simulation methods include Kalman filter method, particle filter method, etc. In this paper a novel numerical algorithm is constructed based on samples of the current state obtained by solving the state equation implicitly. Numerical experiments demonstrate that our algorithm is more accurate than the Kalman filter and more stable than the particle filter.

A modified interacting multiple model (IMM) method called spherical simplex unscented Kalman filter-based jumping and static IMM (SSUKF-JSIMM) is proposed to solve the problem of nonlinear filtering with unknown continuous system parameter. SSUKF-JSIMM regards the continuous system parameter space as a union of disjoint regions, and each region is assigned to a model. For each model, under the assumption that the parameter belongs to the corresponding region, one sub-filter is used to estimate the parameter and the state when the parameter is presumed to be jumping, and another sub-filter is used to estimate the parameter and the state when the parameter is presumed to be static. Considering that spherical simplex unscented Kalman filter (SSUKF) is more suitable for a real-time system than the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), SSUKFs are adopted as the sub-filters of SSUKF-JSIMM. Results of the two SSUKFs are fused as the estimation output of the model. Experimental results show that SSUKF-JSIMM achieves higher performance than IMM, SIR, and UKF in bearings-only tracking problem.

The duality of nonlinear systems built from higher-order two-terminal Chua’s elements and independent voltage and current sources is analyzed. Two different approaches are now being generalized for circuits with higher-order elements: the classical duality principle, hitherto restricted to circuits built from R-C-L elements, and Chua’s duality of memristive circuits. The so-called storeyed structure of fundamental elements is used as an integrating platform of both approaches. It is shown that the combination of associated flip-type and shift-type transformations of the circuit elements can generate dual networks with interesting features. The regularities of the duality can be used for modeling, hardware emulation, or synthesis of systems built from elements that are not commonly available, such as memristors, via classical dual elements.
