Technological adaption and innovative activities foster small and medium enterprises (SMEs) growth by allowing production and process diversifications. Furthermore, open innovation practices, especially SMEs, rely on several firms’ specific attributes, and their impact varies accordingly. This study’s motivation is to explore the impact of technological adaptation and open innovation on SMEs run by women entrepreneurs and the challenges encountered in implementing open innovation. A sample of 580 questionnaires was sent to target SMEs, following the stratified random sampling technique, of which a complete 375 responses were duly received. The open innovation has been measured through eight innovative practices, reflecting the exploration and exploitation of technology in SMEs. This study found that women-owned enterprises were involved in many open innovation policies during the last five years. The result of this study indicated that there are no significant differences between manufacturing and industry regarding open innovation practices. Still, women-owned enterprises are more impressively engaged in open innovation practices. The research also identified that women-owned SMEs follow open innovation, mainly for market-related intentions, to compete with competitors and meet customers’ demands. The study contributes to the theoretical and practical implications. Further, the study is helpful for SMEs, researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers.

Moreover, recently coined term open innovation is increasingly taking a lead in enterprise management in terms of sustained profitability. Foci of researchers and practitioners are revolving around innovation methods, processes, and strategies. This chapter seeks to find out open innovation researches and practices that are being carried out circumscribing development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through a longitudinal study. Along this context the study is investigating into researches that are being carried out by leading researchers and research houses across the globe, and at the same time, it also investigates open innovation practices that are being carried out for the development of SMEs. Before its conclusion, the chapter attempts to develop a framework for future research practices.

The critical role Small and Medium Enterprises play in the economic prosperity of nations cannot be understated. SMEs actively contribute towards economic growth and development through their active role as innovators and agents for change. The authors of this paper believe that leadership styles exercised by SME owners have a bearing on the innovative ability of SMEs. Hence, this paper aimed at investigating the impact of leadership styles on the entrepreneurial orientation of SMEs in Polokwane Municipality. A quantitative research method was used and 103 SMEs participated in the survey. The random sampling technique was used. Self-administered questionnaires were utilised to collect data in a survey. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation and regression analysis. Reliability of the data collection instruments was measured using the Cronbach’s alpha. The results indicated that the SMEs display average levels of entrepreneurial orientation. In addition, the results showed that SMEs display average levels of leadership styles inclined towards transformational leadership style. Furthermore, the results showed a significant positive relationship between the independent variables: leadership styles with the dependent variable (EO) of SMEs. SMEs were recommended to provide flexible leadership styles that will make EO to flourish in their businesses. Furthermore, the policy makers and relevant authorities were recommended to devise and implement a consortium of strategies and policies that can increase the level of entrepreneurial orientation among SMEs in South Africa.

To assess the impact of mobile phones on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Waterloo Community, the researcher used qualitative research methods to do the study. It is selected with the intention of evaluating the socioeconomic impact on the use of mobile phones in the transport, Sand and stone mining as well as general merchandize/petty trading activities in the Waterloo community. Hence, simple random sampling technique was applied in selecting the number of participants that were involved in the study. The study discovered that the SMEs have contributed to socioeconomic development at certain level through the use of mobile phones. The impact of mobile phones in the Waterloo community involved:  precise accounting and bookkeeping, making payments and collections, selling of products, and services to customers, connecting people, and increase business network opportunities and jobs creation. The study further revealed the challenges faced by SMEs in their daily operations in the Waterloo community for example, increased competition from large firms, and multinational corporations, the ability to adjust to fast changing market demand, technological capacity, and change limitations linking  knowledge, innovation, and creativity. Other challenges include lack of previous experience to run the SMEs, poor planning, no proper markets assessment, uncommercialized products, scanty marketing skills and lack of good corporate governance.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to determine the company's understanding of CSR. In addition, this research is also to find out what has been done by the company in implementing CSR as well as to find out the impact on the implementation of CSR in the company. The research method used is a qualitative method. This research explores the interpretation and application of CSR of an airport management company as well as the impact of implementing the CSR. Data collection with interview techniques. The informants used as research objects were six people. Informant selection using a purposive sampling technique. The research location is PT. Angkasa Pura I (Persero) I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali. The results of the interview can be concluded that the company understands that CSR is not just a contribution. The company implements CSR in terms of workforce management and the Partnership and Community Development Program. Recipients of corporate CSR are labor and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the general public. The impact felt by workers, SMEs, and the community also gives positive results. Workers get benefits for their needs and self-development opportunities in the form of education and training. SMEs get loan funds for the development of their businesses. Communities also get grant assistance to use what is needed. This study only uses manpower management and contributes to the community as an object of research. It is hoped that further research can add another aspect in the implementation of CSR in accordance with ISO 26000: 2010 namely corporate governance, human rights, fair business practices, consumer issues, and the environment.
