Worldwide organic food consumption has registered a consistent rise in recent years. Despite the relevant body of literature on the topic, it is necessary to further understand the antecedents of purchase intention. This article aims to identify the factors that influence the consumer’s intention to purchase organic food. It extends the theory of planned behavior model by including environmental concerns, health concerns, and perceived quality as determinants of attitude toward organic food products. Additionally, it considers the effect of product availability on consumers’ perceived behavioral control. This article includes a quantitative study that was conducted in Portugal in 2020 (n = 206). Structural equation modeling was used to test the proposed set of research hypotheses. In line with extant literature, this study confirmed that attitude toward organic food is the main determinant of purchase intention. Additionally, it demonstrates that health concerns and perceived quality have a significant impact on attitude toward organic food. The impact of environmental concerns on attitude was not confirmed by this study. Based on these findings, it is recommended that managers stress health benefits and quality of organic food in order to foster positive attitudes and consequently leverage purchase intention.

Marketing campaigns of organic food emphasize utilitarian benefits and psychological benefits as well as consumer culture to enhance environmental sustainability. In order to study the purchase intention of organic food, the authors developed a model using antecedents like warm glow, subjective norm, attitude and perceived behavioral control. This study examines the model for the Indian and the USA samples and thus integrated using three theories: Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Pro-Social Behavior (PSB) Theory with the interaction of Consumer Culture Theory. The model is estimated using the multi-group Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique using R software with samples from India (n = 692) and the USA (n = 640). Results differ for Indian and USA samples. The expectation of the “warm glow” resulted from an environmentally friendly purchase as having a higher influence on Indian samples than that of the USA. Further, the attitude towards organic food purchase intention is stronger for US samples than the Indian, and the group difference is significant, while all the relationships that take warm glow as an antecedent have higher β for Indian samples. Moreover, the study found that attitude towards organic food is a major element for US subsamples, whereas subjective norm plays a major role in Indian samples to adopt organic food. Managerially, the present study suggests that a firm marketing its organic food must concentrate more on “warm glow” for Indian consumers in order to improve their market share.

Urban trees could provide a variety of ecosystem services. However, they require conservation to sustain a healthy and consistent provision of services. This study applies an extended theory of planned behavior (ETPB) to understand residents’ pay intention for conserving urban trees. In order to explore the impact of the public perception of urban trees, two constructs such as perceived usefulness and perceived tree benefits have been added to the TPB model. This study conducted a questionnaire survey on Taipei city residents and received 364 valid responses. The partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used for the analysis of the model. The results show that residents’ perceived usefulness and perceived tree benefits of urban trees have a significantly positive impact on public attitude toward protecting urban trees. Individuals’ intention to pay towards conservation of urban trees is, on the other hand, affected by subjective norm, attitude, perceived behavioral control, and perceived usefulness. Thus, with education and promotion of tree usefulness and benefits of ecosystem services, it is helpful to improve residents’ attitudes regarding the protection of urban trees and increase their intention to pay for urban tree conservation.

Specifically, this research considers that consumer values as antecedents of consumers’ attitude toward buying natural and organic shampoo products. A survey was conducted with many respondents from graduate students of Magister Management, Trisakti University, Jakarta, and structural equation modeling techniques was used to test the relationships among the variables. The results show that environmental consciousness and appearance consciousness have a positive effect on attitude. Meanwhile, health consciousness has no significant effect on consumers’ attitude. Moreover, the results showed that TPB predictors which consist of attitude and perceived behavioral control are significantly correlated with purchase intention for natural and organic shampoo products, but not with subjective norm. This research provides valuable insight into consumer purchase intention behavior regarding natural and organic shampoo products by examining the factors that influence consumers’ attitude toward buying natural and organic shampoo products and consumers’ purchase intentions for the products.Keywords: Consumer Behaviour, Theory of Planned Behavior, Attitude, PurchaseIntention, Personal Care

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the applicability of theory of planned behavior (TPB) with special emphasis on measuring the direct and moderating effects of subjective norms on attitude, perceived behavioral control and buying intention in context of buying organic food. Design/methodology/approach – Structured questionnaires were randomly distributed among academic staffs and students of two universities in southern Punjab, Pakistan. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the proposed model fit. Findings – Results of the study showed that subjective norms significantly moderate the relationship between attitudes and buying intention as well as between perceived behavior control and buying intention. Furthermore, subjective norms significantly influence attitude toward buying intention. Practical implications – The paper provides useful insights for the academics and marketers. Academics may further explore the role of subjective norms in order to have a better understanding of their effects on TPB components. Whereas, marketers can target the opinion leaders and reference groups to increase the demand of organic food. Originality/value – Majority of previous studies overlooked the role of subjective norms in determining the buying intentions with respect to organic food. The striking feature of this study is an in-depth emphasis on exploring the direct and moderating effects of subjective norms on the elements of TPB. Moreover, to the best of authors’ knowledge, this is a pioneer study that comprehensively examines the linkage of components of TPB with organic food purchasing in Pakistan.

A rapid information and communication technology development results in the change of community’s lifestyle in online shopping. Online marketing strategy should be taken to improve organic cosmetic purchasing intention through Instagram, one of which is to use celebrity endorser in advertisement. Considering Theory of Planned Behavior, this research employed purchase intention, attitude toward advertisement, trustworthiness, expertise, attractiveness variables. The objective of research was to find out the effect of celebrity endorser on attitude toward advertisement and organic cosmetic purchase intention through Instagram. Technique of collecting data used was Google form through social media, Instagram. This research employed Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Maximum Likelihood estimation model. The result of analysis on 200 respondents showed that there is a positive effect of celebrity’s trustworthiness, celebrity’s expertise, celebrity’s attractiveness on Attitude toward advertisement and organic cosmetic purchase intention through Instagram. In addition, attitude toward advertisement serves as imperfect mediation of celebrity’s trustworthiness, celebrity’s expertise, celebrity’s attractiveness and purchase intention. In recent years, discount grocery retailers have expanded their global reach and added to their traditional no-frills offerings to also cater to hedonic consumer needs. In addition to a larger product assortment and a more pleasant shopping experience, they now sell organic food, which commands a price premium compared to non-organic alternatives. To understand organic food in a discount setting, this study sets out to examine the factors that influence discount grocery shoppers’ purchase intention for organic food. To study this relationship, this paper tests several factors in a structural equation model, finding a positive relationship between hedonic shopping values, environmental concern, as well as health consciousness and the purchase intention for organic food. In our model, based on a US consumer survey (n = 394), price consciousness exhibited a direct and negative relationship with the purchase intention for organic food. Furthermore, this study found that that the impact of environmental concern, health consciousness, and hedonic shopping value is greater on the purchase intention of organic food than that of price consciousness, even in this discount setting. This study concludes by discussing these results and attempting to outline potential areas for future research, as well as managerial implications.

This research reveals the factors explaining the purchase intention toward green products among young consumers. Young consumers are beginner consumers who are going to play an important role to take a responsibility in preserving the environment. Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is selected as the main theoretical framework in this research alongside some other variables (environmental concern, environmental knowledge, and willingness to pay), which are added in the research model to expand TPB application. Three hundred and twenty-six respondents were interviewed through a survey and the data are analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).The findings illustrated that not every explanatory variable influenced the purchase intention toward green products among young consumers. Environmental concern and attitude did not influence the purchase intention toward green products among young consumers.

Recent studies have highlighted the importance of research on consumers’ green behavior in emerging markets. This study aims to determine the variables of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) that influence green purchasing intentions in Mexico. Into the model, we incorporated ecological conscience, moral obligation, and willingness to pay as additional variables. A sample of 300 consumers was obtained through an online survey and data were analyzed statistically using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results revealed that perceived purchase control, ecological conscience, and moral obligation directly influence purchase intention. The study contributes to the current literature by strengthening the existing knowledge about the factors that influence the purchasing behavior of green products in emerging countries.

A number of determinants have been investigated by past researchers in the framework of theory of planned behavior. In addition to attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control, use and non-use values have been studied by past researchers with inconsistent results. This article is aimed at identifying the impact of ‘use’ and ‘non-use’ values on organic food purchase intention in a developing country’s context like Bangladesh. Some past studies found both the values significant, whereas some studies found only use-values as dominant determinant in the consumer decision making process. The current study is aimed at exploring the impact of both the use and non-use values simultaneously on the purchase intention of organic foods. The study employs the theory of planned behavior as the research framework to investigate the impact of these values on intention. Partial least-square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was adopted. Results showed that both the values were significant predictor of purchase intention along with attitude and subjective norm (SN). Perceived behavior control (PBC) appeared to be non-significant relationship. Although both the use and non-use values appear to be important in determining consumer intention, use-value carries higher impact compared to non-use value.
