SUMMARYTheoretical as well as experimental studies of translational accuracy have most often been concerned with the selection of aminoacyl-tRNA by codon-programmed ribosomes. The selection of the successive codons on the mRNA has received much less attention, probably because it represents both conceptually and experimentally, a much more demanding physical problem. Nevertheless, it would seem that errors in the selection of the codon are potentially much more destructive than errors in selection of aminoacyl-tRNA species. This can be appreciated from the following.

Numerical experiments in two dimensions are carried out in order to investigate the response of a typical aircraft structure to a mean flow and an acoustic excitation. Two physical problems are considered; one in which the acoustic excitation is applied on one side of the flexible structure and the mean flow is on the other side while in the second problem both the mean flow and acoustic excitation are on the same side. Subsonic and supersonic mean flows are considered together with a random and harmonic acoustic excitation. In the first physical problem and using a random acoustic excitation, the results show that at low excitation levels the response is unaffected by the mean flow Mach number. However, at high excitation levels the structural response is significantly reduced by increasing the Mach number. In particular, both the shift in the frequency response spectrum and the broadening of the peaks are reduced. In the second physical problem, the results show that the response spectrum is dominated by the lower modes (1 and 3) for the subsonic mean flow case and by the higher modes (5 and 7) in the supersonic case. When a harmonic excitation is used, it is found that in the subsonic case the power spectral density of the structural response shows a subharmonic (f/4) while in the supersonic case no subharmonic is obtained.

Objective: To study the association between physical and psychological problems perceived by parents and the IQ of their children. Methods: We studied 981 children in the child development center at Ahmednagar. Median age at followup was 7.8y (Q25=5.6y and Q75=10.4y, Babies underwent IQ evaluation by Binet Kamat scale (n=981); also their physical and psychological problems perceived by parents were documented. We categorized children into 4 categories using a number of problems (physical and psychological separately) viz 1 (no problem), 2 (1 problem), 3 (2 problems), 4 (>2 problems). When we looked at physical problem data, 555 (56.6%) had no problem, 251 (25.6%) had 1, 117 (11.9%) had 2, and the remaining 58 (5.9%) had more than 2. For psychological problems like not interested in studies, speech problems don't remember, don't understand, cannot concentrate, fears, etc. The distribution was 221 (22.5%), 212 (21.6%), 222 (22.6%) and 326 (33.3%) respectively. Result: The increasing trend of mean IQ for physical problem parameters from nil to >2 categories and decreasing prevalence of low IQ using the Binet Kamat scale were not significant. However, for psychological problems, the decreasing and statistically significant trend (p=0.000) was present for mean IQ, and a significant increasing trend (p=0.029) for the prevalence of low IQ was observed. Conclusion: Psychological problems were associated with IQ. Numbers of problems were inversely correlated with IQ. Keywords: Parental Perception; Low IQ; Behavioral Problems; Physical Problems.

This paper proposes an approach for the computer simulation of complex physical problem of contaminant migration through unsaturated catalytic porous media to the filter-trap. The corresponding mathematical model in the two-dimensional nonlinear case is presented. The model includes detailed considerations of the moisture transfer of saline solutions under the generalized Darcy’s and Cluta’s laws in different subregions of soil. The numerical solution of the boundary value problem was found by the finite difference method and proposed the algorithm for computer implementation. The proposed algorithm may be used for creating software with effective risk assessment strategies and predicting the cleaning and further useful use of the soil massifs.

A nonsmooth semi-infinite interval-valued vector programming problem is solved in the paper by Jennane et all. (RAIRO-Oper. Res. doi: 10.1051/ro/2020066, 2020). The necessary optimality condition obtained by the authors, as well as its proof, is false. Some counterexamples are given to refute some results on which the main result (Theorem 4.5) is based. For the convinience of the reader, we correct the faulty in those results, propose a correct formulation of Theorem 4.5 and give also a short proof.

SUMMARYLocal torque minimization for redundant manipulators has been considered by using a redundancy resolution approach. Since its initial formulation, however, proposed solutions have been plagued by performance instabilities. Till now, the reason was not clear. In this paper it is shown that the instability problem occurred because of incorrect formulation. A correct formulation is proposed, which is used to analyze the reason for instability. Special attention is paid to joint acceleration terms at the selfmotion manifold. This helps explaining the recent formulation of a stable scheme based on local joint velocity minimization in terms of torque. The results obtained. are related to dynamic redundancy resolution in general.
