The role of cognitive group therapy and happiness training on cerebral blood flow using 99mTc-ECD brain perfusion SPECT

Summary Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of cognitive group therapy and happiness training objectively in the local cerebral blood flow of patients with major depression (MD). Patients, material, methods: The present research is semi-experimental to pre- and post-test with a control group. Three groups were formed, and this number was incorporated in each group: 12 patients were chosen randomly; the first group of depressed patients benefited from the combination of pharmacotherapy and sessions of cognitive group therapy; the second group used a combination of pharmaco- therapy and sessions of happiness training; and a third group used only pharmacother- apy. We compared cognitive-behavioural therapy and happiness training efficacy with only pharmacotherapy in MD patients. We performed brain perfusion SPECT in each group, before and after each trial. Results: The study was conducted on 36 patients with MD (32 women and 4 men; mean age: 41.22 ± 9.08; range: 27-65 years). There were significant differences regarding the two trial effects into two experimental groups (p < 0/001) before and after trials, while such differences were not significant in the control group (p > 0.05). In addition, there was significant difference among the regional cerebral blood flow in the frontal and prefrontal regions into two experimental groups before and after trials (p < 0/001), while such differences were not significant in the control group (p > 0.05). Conclusion: This study demonstrated decreased cerebral perfusion in the frontal regions in MD patients, which increased following cognitive group therapy and happiness training. Abstract Aims Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been associated with reduced brain volume, cognitive impairment, and reduced cerebral blood flow. The causes of reduced cerebral blood flow in AF are unknown, but no reduction was seen in individuals without the arrhythmia in a previous study. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that brain perfusion, measured with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), improves after cardioversion of AF to sinus rhythm (SR). Methods and results All patients undergoing elective cardioversion at our institution were invited to participate. A total of 44 individuals were included. Magnetic resonance imaging studies were done before and after cardioversion with both brain perfusion and cerebral blood flow measurements. However, 17 did not complete the second MRI as they had a recurrence of AF during the observation period (recurrent AF group), leaving 17 in the SR group and 10 in the AF group to complete both measurements. Brain perfusion increased after cardioversion to SR by 4.9 mL/100 g/min in the whole brain (P &lt; 0.001) and by 5.6 mL/100 g/min in grey matter (P &lt; 0.001). Cerebral blood flow increased by 58.6 mL/min (P &lt; 0.05). Both brain perfusion and cerebral blood flow remained unchanged when cardioversion was unsuccessful. Conclusion In this study of individuals undergoing elective cardioversion for AF, restoration, and maintenance of SR for at least 10 weeks after was associated with an improvement of brain perfusion and cerebral blood flow measured by both arterial spin labelling and phase contrast MRI. In those individuals where cardioversion was unsuccessful, there was no change in perfusion or blood flow.

✓ In 13 dogs the response of the cerebral circulation to changes in PaCO2 ranging from 20 to 60 torr was studied before and after administration of high doses of sodium thiopental. Infusion of sufficient barbiturate to produce 30- to 60-second burst suppression in the electroencephalogram was associated with a profound degree of cerebral vasoconstriction, equivalent to that produced by hypocapnia with PaCO2 = 20 torr. Furthermore, once sodium thiopental was administered, no significant difference in cerebral blood flow (CBF) or vascular resistance (CVR) was noted between PaCO2 of 30 and 20 torr. However, changes of approximately 15% in CBF and 30% in CVR were noted between PaCO2 at 40 and 20 torr. These data suggest that hyperventilation of PaCO2 of less than 30 torr may not effectively increase the degree of cerebral vasoconstriction in these circumstances.

<p align="center"><strong>ABSTRAK</strong></p><p><strong>Background:</strong> One of nutritious problems susceptibly encountred in the world nowadays is kid’s stunting. Stunting is a failure of growth condition and cronical nutritious problems caused by poor nutritious supply because of improper meal provisions in long term growth consumptions. Stunting could be primarily prevented by increasing knowledge about stunting prevention through consuming moringa oleifera regularly. <strong>The aim:</strong> This study is intended to know the impact of education on mother’s knowledge for stunting prevention through regular moringa oleifera consumption. <strong>Research Method: </strong>This research applied a quasi experimental design by generating non equivalent control group which complied two groups; 30 subjects (mothers) were considered as treatment group; whereas, other 30 subjects (mothers) were taken as control group. Thus sampling technique applied was consecutive sampling. <strong>Results:</strong> The study showed that there was a significant impact on education score before and after intervention effects towards the treatment group (p=0,000); whereas there was no significant difference on the control group (p=0,184). The statistical analysis applied independent sample t-test which showed if educational aspect significantly impacted on the increase of mother’s knowledge (p=0,000). <strong>Conclusion:</strong> Educational aspect impacted on mother’s knowledge for stunting prevention through moringa oleifera.</p>

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of flipped learning on students' academic achievements in the subject of science at Bilim Innovation Lyceums (BIL) in Kazakhstan. For this purpose, pre and post surveys were conducted on 168 students who were divided into two groups; the experimental group consisting of 84 students who took part in flipped learning classes for seven weeks and the control group consisting of 84 students who experienced the traditional method of classroom instruction at the same period. To achieve the objectives of the study, a final placement test score was used before and after the introduction of the flipped classroom model. The results of the study are summarized as follows. There were a significant difference between the two groups in terms of academic achievement when it measured by test scores before and after the concerned semester. On the basis of these findings, several suggestions were made for the schools to utilize innovative instructional methods including flipped learning for sustainable education in the future.
