The problems of analysis and planning of diversified production, including the lack of effective methods for search, systematization and primary processing of initial data for mathematical programming methods used in the process of its optimization are considered. Methodology IDEF0 is proposed as a data collection system. For the purpose of practical implementation of the proposed solution, the conceptual apparatus of this methodology is put in accordance with the formal apparatus of these methods and, for its effective realization by computer, relational data model as metamodel is used.

The article actualizes the need to develop software for modeling relational databases for use in the process of teaching students of technical specialties in disciplines related to databases. The problem is considered from the point of view of assessing modern software used in the process of teaching students database design skills. Based on the shortcomings identified during the software review, a number of requirements for the actual software were determined. Formed key requirements are mobility, accessibility, versatility and openness of the development platform. The article describes the process of solving key problems that arose during the implementation of a project to develop a web application for modeling relational databases in accordance with the generated requirements. The practical implementation of the following functions is sequentially considered: creation of a logical relational data model, creation of a physical data model, direct engineering into relational database software. The main technological solutions used in the development of a web application to ensure the qualities specified in the condition are described. The result of the work is the successful testing of the development results in the process of creating a real web application, both within the framework of laboratory and practical work in the disciplines “Design and administration of databases” and “Data management”, and at the stage of writing graduate works for technical directions of training.

This paper proposes an approach that uses serial communication based on the Windows system to collect the manufacturing data through multi-thread mechanism. The data collection system adopts two levels control architecture. The down streaming level is based on several data collection terminals that use ARM chips as central processing units (CPU). The upper level is consisted of personal computers which are connected to the communication network through RS-422, aiming to transfer the data on one side. On the other side, these computers interact with data server, aiming to transmit the data to the processing center. SQL Server 2000 has been utilized as the data manager within this system which uses multi-thread technology to continuously enquiry the data collection terminals (DCTs). After the practical implementation, this system is qualified in the manufacturing environment with high reliability, real-time feature as well as quick responses to the users when they operating the DCTs.

This paper is dedicated to the data integration problem. In article the task of practical implementation of mappings between description logic and a binary relational data model is discussed. This method was formulated earlier at a theoretical level. A practical technique to test mapping engines using RDF is provided in the current paper. To transform the constructs of the description logic ALC and its main extensions into RDF triplets the OWL 2-to-RDF mappings are used. To convert RDB to RDF graph, the R2R Mapping Language (R2R ML) was chosen. The mappings DL ALC and its main extensions to the RDF triplets are described in the publication. The mapping of the DL axioms into an RDF triplet also is considered in the publication. The main difficulties in describing DL-to-RDF transformations are given in the corresponding section. For each constructor of concepts and roles a corresponding expression in OWL 2 and its mapping into the RDF triplet. A schematic representation of the resulting RDF graph for each mapping is created. The paper also provides an overview of existing methods that relate to the use of RDF when mapping RDB to ontology and vice versa.

An example of an implementation of a data collection system based on the Arduino platform and the Python programming language is considered. These systems can be used to automate long-term multiple measurements, as well as subsequent processing of the results of these measurements. Similar systems can find application in young scientists, masters and post-graduate students in their research work while experimentally testing the developed mathematical models and theories.

This paper is dedicated to the data integration problem. To establish relationships between data models is one of the key tasks in this solution. The descriptive logic and the relational data model are at the heart of a study. They have been used to create a mapping method on the theoretical level. The binary relational data model has been developed as a part of a mapping method. The previous studies are continued in this paper to prove on practice a mapping creation method between the descriptive logic and the binary relational data model. The method uses the binary relational data model as an integrating model. This paper continues the previous research of practical implementation of the mapping creation between the descriptive logic and the binary relational data model. The task to prove the theoretical mapping method on practice was formulated. A question how to map the binary relational data model into RDF-triples was considered. A brief overview of the R2R ML conversion tool was given. Triple maps were created to convert a conceptual information model of descriptive logic into RDF triplets with the help of R2R ML. Also, triples maps are described to convert basic mapping mechanisms into RDF with the help of R2R ML.

A free text data collection system has been developed at the University of Illinois utilizing single word, syntax free dictionary lookup to process data for retrieval. The source document for the system is the Surgical Pathology Request and Report form. To date 12,653 documents have been entered into the system. The free text data was used to create an IRS (Information Retrieval System) database. A program to interrogate this database has been developed to numerically coded operative procedures. A total of 16,519 procedures records were generated. One and nine tenths percent of the procedures could not be fitted into any procedures category; 6.1% could not be specifically coded, while 92% were coded into specific categories. A system of PL/1 programs has been developed to facilitate manual editing of these records, which can be performed in a reasonable length of time (1 week). This manual check reveals that these 92% were coded with precision = 0.931 and recall = 0.924. Correction of the readily correctable errors could improve these figures to precision = 0.977 and recall = 0.987. Syntax errors were relatively unimportant in the overall coding process, but did introduce significant error in some categories, such as when right-left-bilateral distinction was attempted. The coded file that has been constructed will be used as an input file to a gynecological disease/PAP smear correlation system. The outputs of this system will include retrospective information on the natural history of selected diseases and a patient log providing information to the clinician on patient follow-up.Thus a free text data collection system can be utilized to produce numerically coded files of reasonable accuracy. Further, these files can be used as a source of useful information both for the clinician and for the medical researcher.

Oil and petroleum products transportation is characterized by a significant cost of electric power. Correct oil and petroleum products accounting and forecasting requires knowledge of many factors. The software for norms of electric power consumption analysis for the planned period was developed at the Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Based on the principles of the relational data model, a schematic diagram/arrangement for the main oil transportation objects was developed, which allows to hold the initial data and calculated parameters in a structured manner.
