Self Help Groups are small voluntary associations of rural people, preferably womenfolk from the same socioeconomic background. They come together to solve common problems.The empowerment of women through Self Help Groups (SHGs) would lead to benefits not only to the individual women but also for the family and community as a whole through collective action for development. This paper is an attempt to analyze the women empowerment through self-help group. A simple random sampling technique is used to collect data. Both primary and secondary data were used. Fifty self-help group members’samples were collected through a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed through statistical tools such as a percentage. This study concludes that the economic activities of the Self Help Group are quite successful. In this way Self Help Group in Sankarankovil Taluk Velappanadaroor area the very successful develop women empowerment and rural areas.

This study examines the women empowerment of self help groups in Thoothukudi district. It aims to analyze the demographic profile of the respondents and characteristics of the Self Help Group members and to evaluate the impact of service quality of SHGs. The data collected from 125 respondents selected using random sampling method covering the villages of Ottapidaram, Pudur, Vilathikulam and Kayathar. It concluded that the economic activities of SHGs are quite successful. In this way, SHGs in four blocks from Thoothukudi District were very successful in women empowerment in rural areas and poverty alleviation.

Women in the Indian perspective constitute a more orthodox and conservative section of society and this has been reflected throughout times immemorial. Therefore, their participation and empowerment in any walk of life are viewed as a sign of progress, particularly in the case of an economic field. The concept of SHGs has been a revolutionary breakthrough in the process of women empowerment and has resulted in their upliftment through elevating their status. Microfinance institution started in India in the 1980s through self-help groups (SHGs) model.Since then women empowerment through SHG (Self Help Group) based microfinance has been central to development agenda in India. Self-help group projects were launched by Government of India, with the financial assistance from IFAD and empower rural poor women through microfinance.This paper is an attempt to know, what is the impact SHGs as an instrument of socio-economic change through women empowerment and poverty eradication in the rural areas of Bhopal, In which microfinance plays a pivotal role.

Women empowerment is a process in which women challenge the existing norms and culture, to effectively promote their well being. The participation of women in Self Help Groups (SHGs) made a significant impact on their empowerment both in social and economical aspects This study addresses women empowerment through self help groups in Dharmapuri district of Tamilnadu . The information required for the study has been collected from both the primary and secondary sources A multistage random sampling method has been followed. Average and percentage analysis was carried out to draw meaningful interpretation of the results. Garret ranking technique was used to find the reasons for joining the Self help group. Factor analysis was used to measure thedetermine the relationship between the observed variables The results of the study revealed that the SHGs have had greater impact on both economic and social aspects of the beneficiaries.

On the basis of a micro level study for Puri district in Odisha, this paper finds that the Self Help Groups (SHGs) have played a positive and significant role in generation of employment and income of its members engaged in different economic activities such as commercial farming, pisciculture, food processing, trade and commerce, household industry and agriculture. The members are found to have a change in the quality of their lives. Promotion of SHGs therefore, not only helps foster rural development but also go a long way in attaining inclusive growth in India.

Self Help Groups have emerged as an important mechanism to bring about socio-economic change in society. Various studies indicate the positive impact that SHGs have had on employment generation, savings, incomes, poverty alleviation and women empowerment. The present study, based on primary data sourced from women members of SHGs located in the state of Goa is an attempt to understand the impact of group membership on its members, particularly women. Empowerment of women has emerged as an important issue in recent times since women remained disadvantaged part of society for a long period of times. Empowerment of women facilitates development by the uplifting their economic, social and political status. Microfinance is proved to be the instrument to handle poverty that exists mostly in urban and rural areas of the country. It is treated as a key strategy in addressing development issues across the country since the last decade. This study basically attempts to analyze the roles and challenges of microfinance in women empowerment. A primary survey has been carried out to capture the realistic experiences from the women beneficiaries of Oromia Micro Credit and Saving Institution of West Shoa Zone branch. In order to address the objectives of the study, a mixed approach has been adopted and primary data were collected and analyzed using quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. A total sample of 268 women customers’ was selected using simple random sampling technique out of 1316 target populations. Data collected from these respondents were analyzed and interpreted using percentage, weighted mean and mean ranking and the hypothesis was tested using the paired t-test. The findings showed that a significant number of clients had increased their income, saving, decision making and asset ownership rights and safeguarded themselves and their families from financial difficulties. Besides its role, the main challenging factors are unproductive usages of the loan, limited loan size, lack of training and follow up, low awareness and high-interest rate of the loan.

<div><p><em>Women empowerment is a universal issue. Women empowerment refers to the creation of an environment for women where they can make decisions of their own for their personal benefits as well as for the society. It refers to increasing and improving the social, economic, political and legal strength of the women, to ensure equal right to women and to make them confident enough to claim their rights. The overall development of the nation remains as a paradox until and unless the women got empowered. The under privileged rural women are still far from empowerment. Unemployment, illiteracy and low social recognition made them so. Presently the self-help groups that mushrooming in different corners of rural Assam have been creating opportunities for women to be empowered. Here in this study an attempt has been made to study whether the rural women got scope to get empowered by getting engagement in self-help groups. 40 women from 04 self-help groups, 13 literate and 27 illiterate women were taken as sample for the study. To collect first hand data self structured questionnaire and self structured interview schedule were prepared by the investigators. Percentage was used to analyze data.</em></p></div>
