The technological line for evaporating solutions in the food industry using a heat pump was optimized, which allowed the secondary steam to be diverted to the ejector, mixed with the primary one, resulting in an increase in the energy efficiency of the installation, and as a result, the consumption of primary steam was reduced. Various directions of improving the process of concentrating food solutions by evaporation are proposed, which can become the basis for the development of energy-saving technologies in this area.

This paper analyzes the energy consumption of hot water supply in buildings and the insurmountable shortcoming of low energy efficiency of conventional water heaters, and investigates the progress and problems of developing heat pump water heaters. It is pointed out that developing of heat pump water heaters is one of the efficient approaches to improve the energy efficiency of hot water supply.

Appropriate renovation of old buildings is critical for energy-efficient pig production. Currently, energy consumption, especially coal consumption, keeps on rising in the production. Therefore, it is essential to develop energy-saving renovation methods for old nursery pig buildings and use cleaner heating energies. A mathematical theory based on coal consumption was established to evaluate energy efficiency of insulation renovation. Two nursery pig houses were tested in this experiment. One was the retrofitted house with the 90-mm-thick extruded polystyrene boards embedded onto outer walls, and the other one was served as a control house without those insulation materials. The results show that the air temperature and inside surface temperature of the retrofitted house were significantly higher than those of the control house in winter. Therefore, though adding insulation layers to walls, the envelope insulation capacity was improved. Meanwhile, the heat loss of the retrofitted house was 60% lower than that of the control house (11.08 W m-2 vs. 27.93 W m-2), when the theoretical ventilation rate was 1560 m3 h-1. In addition, with the prohibition of the coal usage in forseeable future of China, the ground source heat pump and air source heat pump can be economical solutions for heating systems with clean and renewable energy. The purpose of the report is to analyze the possibilities for using heating energy for the building of the Faculty of Technics and Technology of Yambol at Trakia University of Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, provided by renewable sources. The selection of the water-water heat pump system is made after determining the heat demand for the building when applying the energy saving measures proposed in the energy efficiency audit. The possibilities for using groundwater for water supply were studied to heat the building.

The second phase of Weihai Baidu City project plans to become a three-star certificated program which is labled by China’s enviromental building evaluation. Heating and ventilated air conditioning program is one of the most important aspects in evaluation of energy saving. Feasibility study on GSHP, GWHP, air-source heat pump, seawater source heat pump were carried out, it’s confirmed that the most energy-saving and reliable way is that using municipal pipe networks for heating in winter and using split air conditioning or multi-connected air-conditioning system in summer. Summer air-conditioning adopts the new idea “part of time, part of space", representative the latest concept of energy efficiency in buildings in China.

Based on the test data analysis and processing which are acquired from a solar energy/air source compound heat pump system in the actual building, the seasonal energy efficiency ratio under the two modes and the energy-saving rate are obtained. Through the analysis of the energy-saving rate, the energy-saving characteristics of the solar energy/air source compound heat pump system under heating condition is discussed in detailed.

The food industry uses a considerable amount of energy and that amount has been constantly growing with further developments in the sector. The growth of the milk processing industries with the production of dairy products has followed the trends in the food industry in general. The authors made a systematization of the literature data on the most common energy efficiency opportunities (measures) in diaries. Authors also present a methodology for conducting an energy audit in dairies based on ISO 50002 which includes a multi-criteria analysis for ranking energy efficiency opportunities. The proposed methodology was applied to a case study dairy in central Serbia. Taking into account interactions between opportunities, implementation of the proposed energy saving opportunities can ensure 11-15% energy savings for electricity and 20-23% of heat energy annually.

Temperature and humidity independent control can be made by a new dry-type air-conditioning system, the combination of silica gel rotor and heat pump. Heat pump cycle can simultaneously cool the process air and heat the regeneration air, so it can cancel each other out in the cold and heat energy consumption within the system. This novel form of system not only solves the regeneration energy issues fundamentally but also avoids energy waste by reheating in conventional cooling dehumidification air-conditioning system. Based on the establishment of the component model, MATLAB program has been compiled to simulate the combined system running at nominal operating conditions and calculate the performance parameters and energy efficiency. Comparison of the energy efficiency was made of this dry-type air-conditioning system with ones of other regeneration desiccant wheel air conditioning system and conventional cooling dehumidification air-conditioning system, the results of which show that the new dry-type system provided regeneration energy, overcomes the restriction from climate, region and using conditions of other regeneration. Moreover, compared with conventional re-heat air-conditioning system, its energy saving is up to 35.1% and the energy efficiency is increased by 38.1%.

A functional flow diagram of an energy-saving dehumidifier and an air heater based on Peltier elements has been developed. A method for calculating the heat-power and design parameters of a thermoelectric assembly is presented. Physical modeling of the process of dehumidification and heating of air in a thermoelectric installation has been carried out. The results of tests of a working model of the thermoelectric dehumidifier and air heater are presented. Rational operating modes of the installation have been substantiated, and its energy efficiency in the heat pump mode has been shown.
