'Spain: Adolf Pawiński’s letters from his travels in Spain' was written in 1880. We are not dealing with a perieghesis in the nature of a scientific report or a sightseeing guide, but with a collection of texts written with the Polish reader in mind. The correspondence was to be published in the Warsaw press. This explains the volume’s character, content, and form. Pawiński wanted to give a complete picture of Spain, which he visited primarily as a historian, archivist, and tourist. Knowledge of the Spanish language allowed him to get closer to the Spanish world and understand it better. The description of the country is picturesque and, at the same time, historical. In Pawiński’s view, Spain is an “agglomerate”. The image of Spain is multi-faceted, based on knowledge and expressing his fascination with writing.

Examining how prose fiction and the case history share certain formal features, this chapter turns to the medical field of semiology to investigate how the Romantic-era case history models a diagnostic reading practice that extends from medicine to the novel. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1818) is a notable, even parodic, literary case history informed by conventional protocols of medical reporting, visible both in Romantic-era case histories, and, at the end of the nineteenth century, in the case histories of Sigmund Freud. The Romantic case history captures fundamental tensions between the physician’s scientific report and the patient’s autobiography, which compromise the physician’s ability to trace a semiotic relationship between external symptom and underlying condition. The case history proves to be a site of disciplinary quarrel between literature and medicine: not only does it anticipate many of the epistemological problems that attend our modern attempts to read “symptomatically” or “deeply,” it also interrogates the notions of authority, personhood, and normality that continue to sustain modern medical discourse and literary criticism. As the case history reveals the unreliability of the diagnostician’s production of narrative, it also shows the limitations of interpretation in the emergent medical and literary fields of semiology.

The blue crab Callinectes sapidus is one of the 23 marine alien species reported for the Albanian coast so far (Beqiraj et al., 2012; Katsanevakis et al., 2011). The first scientific report on the presence of this species in the Albanian coast is in 2009, in Patoku Lagoon. The blue crab population in Patoku Lagoon had grown significantly by 2009 and the blue crab had started to be traded. The data collected in that year showed that this species is assessed to be established in the Patoku Lagoon (Beqiraj & Kashta, 2010). Special attention has been paid to the study of blue crab population in the following years during 2010 - 2015. The aim of this study is to evaluate the development and population trend of blue crab in the Patoku Lagoon referring to the data collected throughout years of study.
