The article examines the trends in modern architecture, outlined in the studies of architectural critic Alejandro Zaera-Polo and his team. The tool they’ve created was named ‘Interactive Map of Modern Architecture’. Charles Jencks’s ‘Evolutionary Tree’ (diagram of 20th-century architecture) had a significant influence on this tool. The functionality of Zaera-Polo’s map has been examined for five years by the author of this article while tutoring future architects at the Department of Architectural Environment Design at Lviv Polytechnic National University. These examinations allowed us to formulate a number of proposals to improve both - the structure of this map and the methodology of its creation.

AbstractThis paper considers the ways in which the biguine (or ‘beguine’) circulated as a French West Indian musical genre and as a signifier for colonial and island exoticism in non-biguine musical genres during the early to mid-20th century. I begin by suggesting the ways in which the colonial and transnational conditions of its performance have left a history of ideological tensions within popular and academic discussions about the biguine. I then suggest some of the specific ways in which the biguine's circulation functioned in the context of the interwar years and resonated with the discourse and dynamics of ‘Jazz Age Paris’, negrophilia and le tumulte noir. Finally, I offer a close reading of the ways in which French comedian-singer Dranem's ‘La Biguine’ and Cole Porter's ‘Begin the Beguine’ playfully represent the genre in French chanson coloniale and popular song. Rather than viewing the biguine's conditions of performance, or the re-appropriation of the biguine in name only, as the equivalent of the complete musical colonisation and erasure of the genre, I propose that we extend biguine discussion beyond its empirical musicological elements, and lay claim on the echoes of biguine discourse as they resonate through other genres.

Do pierwszej należy np. wyrażenie predykatywne, struktura predykatowo-argumentowa, a do drugiej implikacja semantyczna i sprzeczność. The influence of formal logic on the development of Polish grammatical terminology in the second half of the 20th century. Summary: The generation of the Polish language theoreticians who were born in the 1930s and started their scientific activity in the 1950s searched for new methods of the grammatical description of Polish. The methodology of European structuralism and formal logic had a significant influence on numerous studies on Polish grammar authored by Andrzej Bogusławski, Stanisław Karolak, Zuzanna Topolińska, and by other scholars of the same generation. They used terms taken from functional and sentential calculi, and created new ones that were based on logical terminology. The article first discusses two basic terms used in logic, namely, predicate and implication, to then address two sets of grammatical terms which are based on the logical terms. The first set includes terms such as e.g. predicative expression, predicate-argument structure, whereas the other set contains terms such as semantic implication, contradiction. Keywords: history of Polish linguistics, grammar, semantics, formal logic, terminology

General and strategic management courses frequently provide external analysis tools through which students identify, classify, and assess how changes in the general external environment impact industries and firms. In this exercise, we facilitate analysis of the general environment through a popular song from the 1980s. Through analyzing an event or change mentioned in the lyrics within a general environment framework, students learn how that event or change influenced industries or firms. This process allows students to see the eventualities of historical changes on industries and firms of that time, which develops their skills in assessing the possible impacts of current trends on today’s industries and firms. This exercise is best suited for undergraduate students in a face-to-face introductory management or strategic management course; however, it could be adapted for use online.
