Abstract: Enuresis refers to the involuntary excretion of urine that occurs during urination which is expected to have already been attained. Enuresis is divided into nocturnal enuresis and diurnal enuresis. Nocturnal enuresis (sleep wetting) is enuresis which occurs at night while enuresis diurnal (awake wetting) is enuresis which occurs during the day. The presence of leukocytes in urine that exceeds the normal value is called leukocyturia which is a sign of inflammation of the urinary tract (kidneys, ureter, bladder, and urethra). This study aimed to obtain the relationship between leukocyturia and enuresis among primary school students aged 5-10 years in SDN 4 and SDN 8 Wawalintouan Tondano. This was an observational analytical study with a cross sectional approach. Samples were obtained by using purposive sampling method. There were 60 urine samples of children of SDN 4 and SDN 8 Wawalintouan, Tondano. The results showed that of the 60 students, there were 34 males (56.7%) and 26 females (43.3%). Based on gender, there were 29 males (61.7%) with negative leukocyturia and 5 males (38.5%) with positive leukocyturia; among females there were 18 females (38.3%) with negative leukocyturia and 8 females (61,5%) with positive leukocyturia Based on enuresis, the distribution of leukocyturia showed 7 students (53,8%) with enuresis and positive leukocyturia, meanwhile of those without enuresis there were 6 students (46,2%) with positive leukocyturia. Conclusion: There was no relationship between the incidence of enuresis and leukocyturia among primary school students aged 5-10 years in SDN 4 and SDN 8 Wawalintouan Tondano. Keywords: enuresis, leukosituria, urinalysis.

In this study, we explored the relationship between extracurricular (formal and informal) music activity participation and music and Chinese language academic achievements of primary school students in China. Fourth graders ( N = 10,958) reported their demographic information and extracurricular music activity participation, and completed two standardized academic achievement tests, one on music and another on the Chinese language. Results showed that students’ music activity participation was related to higher music academic achievement after controlling for gender, school location, and family socioeconomic status. The effect of students’ informal music activity participation on their music academic achievements was greater than that of students’ formal music activity participation. Remarkably, students’ informal music activity participation was also positively related to their Chinese language academic achievement, while formal music activity participation showed a negative correlation with academic achievement in Chinese language. Findings contributed to an increased understanding of the influence of different kinds of extracurricular music activities on students’ academic developments.

AbstractBackground and purpose: One of the main benefits of breakfast-eating habit for schoolchildren is to maintain the attention-concentration. The current trend shows a steady decline in the breakfast-eating habit among primary school children. This present study aims to examine the association between breakfast-eating habit and attention-concentration in primary school children.  Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 160 primary school students year 5 and 6. Samples were selected from six public primary schools within two villages. There were a total of 16 classes of year 5 and 6 in these six schools, and five classes were selected randomly. All students from the selected classes included in the study. Attention-concentration was measured using a digit symbol test, and breakfast-eating habit and total calories intake were measured using the recall 24 hours and a standardised questionnaire. Multivariate analysis with logistic regression was employed to examine the association between breakfast-eating habit and attention-concentration.Results: The majority of students were found to have good concentration (60.63%), with breakfast-eating habit (75.00%), and consumed sufficient amount of calories (53.13%). Our multivariate analysis found a significant association between breakfast-eating habit and attention-concentration among schoolchildren (AOR=14.0; 95%CI: 4,9–67,8).Conclusions: Students with breakfast-eating habit tend to have a good attention-concentration. The total calories intake during breakfast is not associated with attention-concentration among primary school students in Badung District.

Dietary supplement use is increasing globally, especially among children. However, few studies have been conducted to examine dietary supplement use among Chinese children. The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of dietary supplement use and the associated factors in primary school students. A cross-sectional study was conducted in four primary schools in Hunan province, China. A total of 706 Chinese parents/caregivers of school children aged 6–12 years old were enrolled. Self-administrated questionnaires were used to collect information about the children’s dietary supplement use, and their socio-demographic characteristics. The prevalence of dietary supplement use in primary school students was 20.4%. Calcium (16.7%), vitamin C (9.2%), and vitamin D (8.5%) were the most commonly used types of dietary supplement. The main reasons for parents/caregivers to purchase dietary supplements for their children were immunity improvement (43.6%), and for growth promotion (36.5%). Some caregivers (26.4%) purchased dietary supplements online, including from dubious or unknown sellers. However, 37.5% of caregivers did not receive formal guidance on supplementation even if they purchased their supplements through formal channels. Parents/caregivers were unclear about the appropriate choices for children’s dietary supplement use. Guidelines and counseling regarding dietary supplements for children may be helpful in public health work.

This study was designed to determine the factors affecting hopelessness about the future of 10–12-year-old Turkish primary school students. Firstly, descriptive factor analysis was applied in order to determine the factors affecting hopelessness levels, then a structural equation model (SEM) was utilized to describe the relationship between the specified factors and hopelessness; these relationships were tested by LISREL 8.54. The results indicated that the preteenagers' level of hopelessness was adversely affected by support received from parents and friends. The hopelessness level was also significantly affected by the preteenagers' positive self-definition and parents' educational level.
