Although Machine Learning (ML) has become synonymous for Artificial Intelligence (AI); recently, Deep Learning (DL) is being used in place of machine learning persistently. If statistics is grammar and machine learning is poetry then deep learning is the creation of Socrates. While machine learning is busy in supervised and unsupervised methods, deep learning continues its motivation for replicating the human nervous system by incorporating advanced types of Neural Networks (NN). Due to its practicability, deep learning is finding its applications in various AI solutions such as computer vision, natural language processing, intelligent video analytics, analyzing hyperspectral imagery from satellites and so on. Here we have made an attempt to demonstrate strong learning ability and better usage of the dataset for feature extraction by deep learning. This paper provides an introductory tutorial to the domain of deep learning with its history, evolution, and introduction to some of the sophisticated neural networks such as Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Recurrent Neural Network (RNN). This work will serve as an introduction to the amazing field of deep learning and its potential use in dealing with today’s large chunk of unstructured data, that it could take decades for humans to comprehend and extract relevant information.

The Classification of images is a paramount topic in artificial vision systems which have drawn a notable amount of interest over the past years. This field aims to classify an image, which is an input, based on its visual content. Currently, most people relied on hand-crafted features to describe an image in a particular way. Then, using classifiers that are learnable, such as random forest, and decision tree was applied to the extract features to come to a final decision. The problem arises when large numbers of photos are concerned. It becomes a too difficult problem to find features from them. This is one of the reasons that the deep neural network model has been introduced. Owing to the existence of Deep learning, it can become feasible to represent the hierarchical nature of features using a various number of layers and corresponding weight with them. The existing image classification methods have been gradually applied in real-world problems, but then there are various problems in its application processes, such as unsatisfactory effect and extremely low classification accuracy or then and weak adaptive ability. Models using deep learning concepts have robust learning ability, which combines the feature extraction and the process of classification into a whole which then completes an image classification task, which can improve the image classification accuracy effectively. Convolutional Neural Networks are a powerful deep neural network technique. These networks preserve the spatial structure of a problem and were built for object recognition tasks such as classifying an image into respective classes. Neural networks are much known because people are getting a state-of-the-art outcome on complex computer vision and natural language processing tasks. Convolutional neural networks have been extensively used.

Abstract In this paper, I proposed an iris recognition system by using deep learning via neural networks (CNN). Although CNN is used for machine learning, the recognition is achieved by building a non-trained CNN network with multiple layers. The main objective of the code the test pictures’ category (aka person name) with a high accuracy rate after having extracted enough features from training pictures of the same category which are obtained from a that I added to the code. I used IITD iris which included 10 iris pictures for 223 people.

Machine learning is the study of algorithms and models for computing systems to do tasks based on pattern identification and inference. When it is difficult or infeasible to develop an algorithm to do a particular task, machine learning algorithms can provide an output based on previous training data. A well-known machine learning model is deep learning. The most recent deep learning models are based on artificial neural networks (ANN). There exist several types of artificial neural networks including the feedforward neural network, the Kohonen self-organizing neural network, the recurrent neural network, the convolutional neural network, the modular neural network, among others. This article focuses on convolutional neural networks with a description of the model, the training and inference processes and its applicability. It will also give an overview of the most used CNN models and what to expect from the next generation of CNN models.

Abstract Sentiment Analysis has recently been considered as the most active research field in the natural language processing (NLP) domain. Deep Learning is a subset of the large family of Machine Learning and becoming a growing trend due to its automatic learning capability with impressive consequences across different NLP tasks. Hence, a fusion-based Machine Learning framework has been attempted by merging the Traditional Machine Learning method with Deep Learning techniques to tackle the challenge of sentiment prediction for a massive amount of unstructured review dataset. The proposed architecture aims to utilize the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with a backpropagation algorithm to extract embedded feature vectors from the top hidden layer. Thereafter, these vectors augmented to an optimized feature set generated from binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) method. Finally, a traditional SVM classifier is trained with these extended features set to determine the optimal hyper-plane for separating two classes of review datasets. The evaluation of this research work has been carried out on two benchmark movie review datasets IMDB, SST2. Experimental results with comparative studies based on performance accuracy and F-score value are reported to highlight the benefits of the developed frameworks.

Sentiment analysis is computational measurement of attitude, opinions, and emotions (like positive/negative) with the help of text mining and natural language processing of words and phrases. Incorporation of machine learning techniques with natural language processing helps in analysing and predicting the sentiments in more precise manner. But sometimes, machine learning techniques are incapable in predicting sentiments due to unavailability of labelled data. To overcome this problem, an advanced computational technique called deep learning comes into play. This chapter highlights latest studies regarding use of deep learning techniques like convolutional neural network, recurrent neural network, etc. in sentiment analysis.

Abstract Objective: With the development in the field of neural networks, Explainable AI (XAI), is being studied to ensure that artificial intelligence models can be explained. There are some attempts to apply neural networks to neuroscientific studies to explain neurophysiological information with high machine learning performances. However, most of those studies have simply visualized features extracted from XAI and seem to lack an active neuroscientific interpretation of those features. In this study, we have tried to actively explain the high-dimensional learning features contained in the neurophysiological information extracted from XAI, compared with the previously reported neuroscientific results. Approach: We designed a deep neural network classifier using 3D information (3D DNN) and a 3D class activation map (3D CAM) to visualize high-dimensional classification features. We used those tools to classify monkey electrocorticogram (ECoG) data obtained from the unimanual and bimanual movement experiment. Main results: The 3D DNN showed better classification accuracy than other machine learning techniques, such as 2D DNN. Unexpectedly, the activation weight in the 3D CAM analysis was high in the ipsilateral motor and somatosensory cortex regions, whereas the gamma-band power was activated in the contralateral areas during unimanual movement, which suggests that the brain signal acquired from the motor cortex contains information about both contralateral movement and ipsilateral movement. Moreover, the hand-movement classification system used critical temporal information at movement onset and offset when classifying bimanual movements. Significance: As far as we know, this is the first study to use high-dimensional neurophysiological information (spatial, spectral, and temporal) with the deep learning method, reconstruct those features, and explain how the neural network works. We expect that our methods can be widely applied and used in neuroscience and electrophysiology research from the point of view of the explainability of XAI as well as its performance.

The article is devoted to the consideration of one of the areas of application of modern and promising computer technology – machine learning. This direction is based on the creation of models consisting of neural networks and their deep learning. At present, there is a need to generate new, not yet existing, images of objects of different types. Most often, text files or images act as such objects. To achieve a high quality of results, a generation method based on the adversarial work of two neural networks (generator and discriminator) was once worked out. This class of neural network models is distinguished by the complexity of topography, since it is necessary to correctly organize the structure of neural layers in order to achieve maximum accuracy and minimal error. The described program is created using the Python language and special libraries that extend the set of commands for performing additional functions: working with neural networks Keras (main library), integrating with the operating system Os, outputting graphs Matplotlib, working with data arrays Numpy and others. A description is given of the type and features of each neural layer, as well as the use of library connection functions, input of initial data, compilation and training of the obtained model. Next, the implementation of the procedure for outputting the results of evaluating the errors of the generator and discriminator and the accuracy achieved by the model depending on the number of cycles (eras) of its training is considered. Based on the results of the work, conclusions were drawn and recommendations were made for the use and development of the considered methodology for creating and training generative and adversarial neural networks. Studies have demonstrated the procedure for operating with comparatively simple and accessible, but effective means of a universal Python language with the Keras library to create and teach a complex neural network model. In fact, it has been proved that the use of this method allows to achieve high-quality results of machine learning, previously achievable only when using special software systems for working with neural networks.
