The area of knowledge in the area of communication is growing at a significant rate and has reformed the usual patterns of teaching-learning processes. A variety of methodological tools have been established to provide the varying circumstances and difficulties of higher education learners. One of the significant technological innovations is that e-learning can be designated as the use of the Internet and computers to support teaching and learning, and many e-learning tools are currently accessible for use in education. E-learning tools can provide training and revision to a large number of students with varying social circumstances and information levels. The last three decades have witnessed the phenomenal growth of the Internet as a medium for teaching and learning in higher education. Yet educational systems have done little to gain a better understanding of how these methods affect the nature and level of student engagement. Although there is a rapidly growing literature on the use of the Internet for teaching and learning purposes, there is relatively little literature and associated research on effective Pedagogical approaches to web-based instruction. This chapter starts by outlining the advantages and disadvantages of using the web for teaching in the context of higher education. One aspect of the disadvantages that is addressed in this chapter is the dilemma that Online learning and teaching pose for decision-makers, educators and students with regard to the implementation of Pedagogical approaches aimed at enhancing critical thinking and metacognitive skills.


Recently, the market of E-Learning is soaring and is known as a new paradigm in modern education. E-Learning acts as a medium, consisting of several types of computers and electronic media that are communication tools as well as the Internet, which provides training and informative access on certain subjects. By using E-Learning students can attend online classes anywhere, regardless of time and place. Generally, E-Learning is more geared towards self-training and is ideal for individuals who work full-time but desire to further their studies. Thus, this study has been developed and integrated with factors leading towards the effectiveness of E-Learning as a tool in Teaching and Learning (T&L) approach. A quantitative approach was applied by using a self-administered distribution of questionnaire targeted at higher education students. Therefore, the outcomes of this research will help to provide insightful information to the current education system in Malaysia, particularly in crafting strategies to enhance the learning education for the country in general.

Learning strategies in the digitalization era are vastly expanding. Students are comprised of the millennials for whom life cannot be separated from technology and the internet. The ever-expanding technology has posed new challenge on the teaching process of millennials, and one of which is the growing importance and increased involvement of technology that empower a host of new learning tools. One of the most prominent open-access teaching/learning tool is Kahoot! This chapter aims to complement studies about the use of game-based methods at higher education. The survey was conducted for 1 year at a university located in a small city in Indonesia. A total of 415 students were actively involved in measuring their perceptions of games-based learning tools called Kahoot! Furthermore, this study also measured differences in outcomes between faculties, types of subjects, and commonly used research methods. The result shows that Kahoot! positively impacts student academic achievement as measured by student motivation, enjoyment, engagement, and concentration.

Technology has significantly brought changes in all aspects of human life, the changes that occur require everyone to change from old habits to new habits that are not used to be done. Changes in general in face-to-face classes began to shift to virtual classes. Even the elements of education have undergone many changes both parents, students and teachers. They experience new teaching patterns and ways of teaching. Learning places are transformed and can be done at home, public places, and so on. Time and place are no longer a barrier to teaching and learning activities because they can be done online. Online learning is carried out by utilizing existing technology through media that uses the internet to carry out teaching and learning processes such as cellphones and laptops. This media will support the teaching and learning process through available applications such as whatsApp, google classroom and so on. Learning brings many challenges and obstacles faced by parents in particular. Of course this is a challenge in itself for parents in monitoring children's learning activities, especially in the application of technology as a learning medium for children.

The present study highlights the challenges and benefits influencing the acceptance, and use of e-learning as tool for teaching within higher education. It will help to develop a strategic plan for the successful implementation of e-learning and view technology as a positive step towards evolution and change. An attempt has been made to find the effectiveness of online teaching-learning methods in Higher Education. A questionnaire has been specially designed and deployed among college faculties and students. About 200 faculties from university and Education colleges in Ujjain have taken part in the online survey and submitted responses. It was found that multimedia, digital collaboration with peers, video lectures delivered by faculty handling the subject, online quiz having multiple choice questions, interaction by the faculties during lecture and online materials provided by the faculty promoted effective online learning. Virtual classroom unlike traditional classroom, give unlimited scope for introducing teaching innovation strategies. The use of ICT tools promotes technological innovations and advances in learning and knowledge management. This paper explores the online teaching - learning tools, methods, and a survey on the innovative practices in teaching and learning. Challenges and benefits of online teaching, various components on the effective use of online tools, team- based collaborative learning, simulation and animation - based learning are discussed and explained in detail.

The Spanish educational system will require certain changes in order to achieve the Bologna objectives for the European Higher Education Area, including with new activities and roles for both students and teachers, who must assume new skills that will affect concepts and attitudes related to the teaching and learning processes. This chapter describes the authors’ experience in designing E-learning methodologies for the teaching of accountancy in the Business Administration Degree Course at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. The chapter’s methodology designed for teaching accounting, is based on PBL (Problem Based Learning), compiled with Internet based technologies. The authors analyze its use and evolution in two accounting subjects in the first and the fourth year of the degree. The conclusions obtained from the statistical treatment of the results show that there is a direct correlation between the use of an active E-learning model and obtaining satisfactory exam results in the subject.

Then it discusses the use of technology, particularly the Internet, to support and enhance effective learning based on the principles of engagement theory. It considers relevant studies within the context of technology based learning, and highlights important experiences and findings. The paper indicates that technology based pedagogy and an effective online learning environment are crucial to support and enrich effective learning outcomes. The paper considers implications for South African higher education in the 21st century. Integrating the Internet as part of a curriculum is proposed, to instil our learners with lifelong skills.</span></p></div></div></div>

Electronic learning is nowadays a reality that has been possible due to the recent advances in technology. Different new Web tools have been developed to be directly applied to the teaching/learning process at all levels, especially in higher education. In fact, e-learning tools are the key elements for carrying out educational innovation when dealing with overcrowded groups of students. This e-tools applied to assessment are analyzed in this chapter. In particular, diagnostic and formative e-assessment implemented on a Moodle-based VLE environment has been introduced in different basic Mechanics subjects, with similar contents but taught in different engineering degrees, in diverse years or with various group sizes. The benefits and underlying problems of this introduction are described here. This has been made in order to compare results of different subjects and to extract general conclusions, which could be extrapolated to any other engineering disciplines.
