Many businesses obtain feedback by surveying customers and business partners. Increasingly, these surveys are conducted via the Web. This chapter reviews briefly literature regarding Web-based surveys and describes a software architecture for a Web-based survey system. The architecture for the survey system is based on three-tiers comprised of a Web server, Web application server, and database server. The Web application server hosts the application modules that display and process the surveys. The application software consists of packages for establishing connections to the database and for reading static and dynamic data from the database. The processed surveys are written to the database with the survey responses. This system allows for anonymous survey responses and maintains user confidentiality. At the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, we have implemented this Web-based survey system, and used it to conduct three different surveys. This survey system is easily extensible to new surveys, and is used for instructional purposes to teach server-side programming. In this chapter, we discuss the key ideas behind the design and implementation of the extensible survey system, and provide results on its application.

Web applications, which are computer programs ported to the Web, allow end-users to use various remote services and tools through their Web browsers. There are an enormous number of Web applications on the Web, and they are becoming the basic infrastructure of everyday life. In spite of the remarkable development of Web-based infrastructure, it is still difficult for end-users to compose new integrated tools of both existing Web applications and legacy local applications, such as spreadsheets, chart tools, and database. In this chapter, the authors propose a new framework where end-users can wrap remote Web applications into visual components, called pads, and functionally combine them together through drag-and-drop operations. The authors use, as the basis, a meme media architecture IntelligentPad that was proposed by the second author. In the IntelligentPad architecture, each visual component, called a pad, has slots as data I/O ports. By pasting a pad onto another pad, users can integrate their functionalities. The framework presented in this chapter allows users to visually create a wrapper pad for any Web application by defining HTML nodes within the Web application to work as slots. Examples of such a node include input-forms and text strings on Web pages. Users can directly manipulate both wrapped Web applications and wrapped local legacy tools on their desktop screen to define application linkages among them. Since no programming expertise is required to wrap Web applications or to functionally combine them together, end-users can build new integrated tools of both wrapped Web applications and local legacy applications.

The right and appropriate system of receiving and transferring goods is needed by the company. In the process of receiving and transferring goods from the central warehouse to the branch warehouse at PDAM Tirta Kerta Raharja, Tangerang Regency, which is currently done manually is still ineffective and inaccurate because the Head of Subdivision uses receipt documents, namely PPBP and mutation of goods, namely MPPW in the form of paper as a submission media. The Head of Subdivision enters the data of receipt and mutation of goods manually and requires a relatively long time because at the time of demand for the transfer of goods the Head of Subdivision must check the inventory of goods in the central warehouse first. Therefore, it is necessary to hold a design of information systems for the receipt and transfer of goods from the central warehouse to a web-based branch warehouse that is already database so that it is more effective, efficient and accurate. With the web-based system of receiving and transferring goods that are already datatabed, it can facilitate the Head of Subdivision in inputing data on the receipt and transfer of goods and control of stock inventory so that the Sub Head of Subdivision can do it periodically to make it more effective, efficient and accurate. The method of data collection is done by observing, interviewing and studying literature from various previous studies, while the system analysis method uses the Waterfall method which aims to solve a problem and uses design methods with visual modeling that is object oriented with UML while programming using PHP and MySQL as a database.

Today’s contemporary business world has incorporated Web Services and Web Applications in its core of operating cycle nowadays and security plays a major role in the amalgamation of such services and applications with the business needs worldwide. OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) states that the effectiveness of security mechanisms in a Web Application can be estimated by evaluating the degree of vulnerability against any of the nominated top ten vulnerabilities, nominated by the OWASP. This paper sheds light on a number of existing tools that can be used to test for the CSRF vulnerability. The main objective of the research is to identify the available solutions to prevent CSRF attacks. By analyzing the techniques employed in each of the solutions, the optimal tool can be identified. Tests against the exploitation of the vulnerabilities were conducted after implementing the solutions into the web application to check the efficacy of each of the solutions. The research also proposes a combined solution that integrates the passing of an unpredictable token through a hidden field and validating it on the server side with the passing of token through URL.

Increasing demands on user interface (UI) usability, adaptability, and dynamic behavior drives ever-growing development and maintenance complexity. Traditional UI design techniques result in complex descriptions for data presentations with significant information restatement. In addition, multiple concerns in UI development leads to descriptions that exhibit concern tangling, which results in high fragment replication. Concern-separating approaches address these issues; however, they fail to maintain the separation of concerns for execution tasks like rendering or UI delivery to clients. During the rendering process at the server side, the separation collapses into entangled concerns that are provided to clients. Such client-side entanglement may seem inconsequential since the clients are simply displaying what is sent to them; however, such entanglement compromises client performance as it results in problems such as replication, fragment granularity ill-suited for effective caching, etc. This paper considers advantages brought by concern-separation from both perspectives. It proposes extension to the aspect-oriented UI design with distributed concern delivery (DCD) for client-server applications. Such an extension lessens the serverside involvement in UI assembly and reduces the fragment replication in provided UI descriptions. The server provides clients with individual UI concerns, and they become partially responsible for the UI assembly. This change increases client-side concern reuse and extends caching opportunities, reducing the volume of transmitted information between client and server to improve UI responsiveness and performance. The underlying aspect-oriented UI design automates the server-side derivation of concerns related to data presentations adapted to runtime context, security, conditions, etc. Evaluation of the approach is considered in a case study applying DCD to an existing, production web application. Our results demonstrate decreased volumes of UI descriptions assembled by the server-side and extended client-side caching abilities, reducing required data/fragment transmission, which improves UI responsiveness. Furthermore, we evaluate the potential benefits of DCD integration implications in selected UI frameworks.

In the present era, the internet and new technologies are changing the information behavior of news reader .Instead of reading a copy of the local newspaper or watching the scheduledevening news, people increasingly turn to the internet for daily news updates. A Multi-Lingual news feed application is aimed at developing a web based application named multilingual news feed app. This Application deals with the user who wants to read news from the web application. User can select different countries in which a user is interested, the latest news will be fetched from the selected country. The news will be fetched and displayed based on the country selected in its own national language & the news is categorized into 7 different categories. A user can select any category which they are looking for. When you are done selecting the country & category, then the page will automatically refresh and the news will be displayed on MultiLingual news feed application. This application also supports translation and the news can be translated into any language. This application is fully responsive and has a good-looking user interface. The users will find this application much interesting for reading the news articles.

Application uses URL as contribution for Web Application Vulnerabilities recognition. if the length of URL is too long then it will consume more time to scan the URL (Ain Zubaidah et.al 2014).Existing system can notice the web pages but not overall web application. This application will test for URL of any length using String matching algorithm. To avoid XSS and CSRF and detect attacks that try to sidestep program upheld arrangements by white list and DOM sandboxing techniques (Elias Athanasopoulos et.al.2012). The web application incorporates a rundown of cryptographic hashes of legitimate (trusted) client side contents. In the event that there is a cryptographic hash for the content in the white list. On the off chance that the hash is discovered the content is viewed as trusted or not trusted. This application makes utilization of SHA-1 for making a message process. The web server stores reliable scripts inside div or span HTML components that are attribute as reliable. DOM sandboxing helps in identifying the script or code. Partitioning Program Symbols into Code and Non-code. This helps to identify any hidden code in trusted tag, which bypass web server. Scanning the website for detecting the injection locations and injecting the mischievous XSS assault vectors in such infusion focuses and check for these assaults in the helpless web application( Shashank Gupta et.al 2015).The proposed application improve the false negative rate.

This paper designs web-based USB 1-N wireless I/O modules embedded sequential controller. The controller consists of ARM-based core system, a set of USB 1-N wireless I/O data acquisition modules, and sequential control software. The ARM-based core system running Linux operation system forms the basic hardware/software foundation of the controller. The set of USB devices used as I/O interface (sensor and actuator) of thecontroller. With the use of RF chip, the USB I/O is cascaded by wireless 1-N channel such that multiple data acquisition modules can communicate with the controller by a USB port. The device driver of the USB set for the ARM-base Linux system is developed. The sequential control software is designed as client/server structure. The server-side program and client-side program communicate through the Internet. The server-side control program, mainly a PLC interpreter, is an application developed in C++ in the Linux system. The client-side control program is developed in Java and put under a web server of the controller such that the program can be easily deployed by network and run in remote computer. The client program is also used as GUI of the controller.

Web-based applications has turn out to be very prevalent due to the ubiquity of web browsers to deliver service oriented application on-demand to diverse client over the Internet and cross site scripting (XSS) attack is a foremost security risk that has continuously ravage the web applications over the years. This paper critically examines the concept of XSS and some recent approaches for detecting and preventing XSS attacks in terms of architectural framework, algorithm used, solution location, and so on. The techniques were analysed and results showed that most of the available recognition and avoidance solutions to XSS attacks are more on the client end than the server end because of the peculiar nature of web application vulnerability and they also lack support for self-learning ability in order to detect new XSS attacks. Few researchers as cited in this paper inculcated the self-learning ability to detect and prevent XSS attacks in their design architecture using artificial neural networks and soft computing approach; a lot of improvement is still needed to effectively and efficiently handle the web application security menace as recommended.

In a previous report, we explored the serverless OpenHealth approach to the Web as a Global Compute space. That approach relies on the modern browser full stack, and, in particular, its configuration for application assembly by code injection. The opportunity, and need, to expand this approach has since increased markedly, reflecting a wider adoption of Open Data policies by Public Health Agencies. Here, we describe how the serverless scaling challenge can be achieved by the isomorphic mapping between the remote data layer API and a local (client-side, in-browser) operator. This solution is validated with an accompanying interactive web application (bit.ly/loadsparcs) capable of real-time traversal of New York’s 20 million patient records of the Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System (SPARCS), and is compared with alternative approaches. The results obtained strengthen the argument that the FAIR reproducibility needed for Population Science applications in the age of P4 Medicine is particularly well served by the Web platform.
