Patchouli oil contains patchouli alcohol as the main component which is a tricyclic tertiary alcohol sesquiterpene compound that is insoluble in water. Microemulsion is a droplet dispersion technology that combines an insoluble liquid with another liquid. The role of surfactants in helping the dispersion process of microemulsion formulation is by reducing the interfacial tension. Microemulsion is a supersolvents carrier, so that both hydrophilic and lipophilic can be administered through a microemulsion system. The purpose of this study was to formulate patchouli oil into a stable microemulsion preparation. This research was conducted by making 4 preparations of patchouli oil microemulsion containing 5% (F1), 10% (F2), and 15% (F3) patchouli oil, and microemulsion without patchouli oil (F0). Evaluation of microemulsion preparations includes organoleptic test, pH measurement, density determination, viscosity test, freeze and thaw test, centrifugation test, and particle size analysis. The test results showed that the microemulsion containing 5% patchouli oil had the most stable characteristics compared to other formulas.

This study aims to determine the result of isolation of patchouli oil from Peunaron East Aceh and determine the quality of patchouli oil and to determine the levels contained in patchouli oil. Analysis of the results of the research data is described using quantitative and descriptive analysis. Based on research that has been done that the results of isolation of patchouli oil from Peunaron , East Aceh Regency, yields a value of 2,04%. Patchouli oil quality obtained shows yellow results with a specific gravity value of 0,950 that meets SNI standards. The determine of the refractive index produces a value of 1,50039 with results that do not meet SNI standards and the resulting patchouli oil content is 33 chemical compound components with the main component of patchouli alcohol content of 3,65%. It can be concluded that patchouli oil from Peunaron, East Aceh Regency still does not meet SNI standards.

Toner is a main component of electrophotographic printing and copying processes. One of the most important ingredients of toner is magnetite (Fe3O4) which provides the tribocharging property for toner particles. In this study, nano- and microparticles of Fe3O4were synthesized using the coprecipitation method and different amounts of lauric acid as a surfactant. The synthesized nano and micro Fe3O4was then used as the charge control agent to produce toner by emulsion aggregation. The Fe3O4and toner were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), atomic gradient force magnetometry (AGFM), dynamic laser scattering (DLS), particle size analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the optimum amount of surfactant not only reduced particle size but also reduced the magnetite properties of Fe3O4. It was found that the magnetite behavior of the toner is not similar to the Fe3O4used to produce it. Although small-sized Fe3O4created toner with a smaller size, toners made with micro Fe3O4showed better magnetite properties than toner made with nano Fe3O4.

A tailings assaying 0.4% Sn is taken from a flotation process which is used to recover Cu, Pb and Zn. The cassiterite in the tailings is of fine dissemination and complex composition, which leads to difficulties to recover by traditional gravity concentration. In order to enhance the recovery of Sn and make good use of the tailings, particle size analysis and chemical analysis were conducted. Test results show that different flotation index under different size range can be obtained, and the flotation behavior of different size range was investigated. As a result, a reasonable process of gravity concentration and flotation after classification is proposed, which can enhance the Sn recovery remarkably.

This article discusses the application of particle size analysis to better understanding and improved design of the direct filtration process (no chemical pretreatment) of secondary municipal effluents. Particle size distributions (PSD) of various plant effluents are described and interpreted. Results from laboratory experiments are presented, pointing out a major divergence of effluent filtration from classical water filtration theory. A mathematical model introducing the PSD function into a “classical” filtration model is presented exemplifying PSD application to improved wastewater filtration.

In order to test the performance of a vibration lamella thickener, a ZXN32 was applied to a industry experiment. We carried out a series of experiment and measured the test parameter of the equipment which was based on particle size analysis and settlement experiment. The test results show that the calculation of the capacity meets with the practical capacity. The test equipment runs stably and compares with the thickener used in the plant, the test equipment is 2.7~2.8 times as much as thickener in capacity per unit area at the same conditions.

Abstract This study aimed to obtain ceramic filters with bactericidal action for water disinfection. For this, aqueous suspensions of montmorillonite K10 clay were prepared at concentrations of 48%, 50%, and 52%. Later, these were impregnated into polymeric sponges in order to form the ceramic skeletons by using the replica technique. The ceramic filters were submerged in nickel resins doped with 0.25 and 0.50 mol% silver. These resins were obtained by the Pechini method and heat-treated at 600 and 700 ºC for 2 h. Moreover, techniques such as X-ray diffraction, particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, compressive strength, water absorption, and apparent porosity were used to characterize the filters, and their performance was analyzed by a bactericidal test. The bactericidal test results showed that the filters impregnated with the resin containing 0.50 mol% of silver promoted the total elimination of the Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.

The nanosized TiO2was prepared by microemulsion process in the system of cyclohexane/[Span80 combine with Tween40]/water with TiOSO4as raw material. The synthesis process of the powder was investigated by differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and laser particle size analysis (LPSA). The results showes that TiO2with the average size of 19.5nm and narrow size distribution was prepared under these conditions of Span80 of 8g and Tween40 of 2g as the emulsifier, water/oil mass ratio of 1/4, amount of TiOSO4of 10mL with the consistency of 0.8mol/L, calcination temperature of 480 °C for 20min.
