ABSTRACTTitania particles (P25 DEGUSSA AG) were treated by a solution of 12-mercaptododecyl-phosphonic acid (MDPA) in toluene to obtain an organic-inorganic hybrid material with thiol functions at the surface. This material was characterized by chemical analysis, solid state 31P MAS NMR and FTIR spectroscopies, and XPS. Reaction of the phosphonic acid end of MDPA with the TiO2 surface led to the formation of a relatively dense and well-ordered self-assembled monolayer (SAM), with a density of about 3.9 SH functions per nm2. This material was tested for the extraction of mercury in water at pH 7, 9, and 11. Chemical analysis indicated no loss of SH functionality, even at pH 11. The best extraction results were obtained at pH 9 and 11, with a metal extraction ability between 85 and 90%.

Multivariate statistical methods are widely used in several disciplines of fundamental sciences. In the present study, the data analysis of the chemical analysis of the sands of Moonlight Beach in the Kemer region was examined using multivariate statistical methods. This study consists of three parts. The multivariate statistical analysis tests were described in the first part, then the pollution indexes were studied in the second part. Finally, the distribution maps of the chemical analyses and pollution indexes were generated using the obtained data. The heavy metals were mostly observed in location K1, while they were sorted as follows based on their concentrations: Mg > Fe > Al > Ti > Sr > Mn > Cr > Ni > Zn > Zr > Cu > Rb. Also, strong positive correlations were found between Si, Fe, Al, K, Ti, P. According to the results of factor analysis, it was found that four factors explained 83.5% of the total variance. On the other hand, the coefficient of determination (R2) was calculated as 63.6% in the regression model. Each unit increase in the value of Ti leads to an increase of 0.022 units in the value of Si. Potential Ecological Risk Index analysis results (RI < 150) revealed that the study area had no risk. However, the locations around Moonlight Beach are under risk in terms of Enrichment Factor and Contamination Factor values. The index values of heavy metals in the anomaly maps and their densities were found to be successful; and higher densities were observed based on heavy metal anomalies.

This study aims to investigate the ability of low cost ceramic membrane filtration in removing three common heavy metals namely; Pb2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+ from water media. The work includes manufacturing ceramic membranes with dimensions of 15 by 15 cm and 2 cm thickness. The membranes were made from low cost materials of local clay mixed with different sawdust percentages of 0.5%, 2.0%, and 5.0%. The used clay was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence analysis. Aqueous solutions of heavy metals were prepared in the laboratory and filtered through the ceramic membranes. The influence of the main parameters such as pH, initial driving pressure head, and concentration of heavy metals on their removal efficiency by ceramic membranes was investigated. Water samples were collected before and after the filtration process and their heavy metal concentrations were determined by chemical analysis. Moreover, a microstructural analysis using scanning electronic microscope (SEM) was performed on ceramic membranes before and after the filtration process. The chemical analysis results showed high removal efficiency up to 99% for the concerned heavy metals. SEM images approved these results by showing adsorbed metal ions on sides of the internal pores of the ceramic membranes.

The effect of meat marinating with aqueous extract of Ilex meserveae dried leaves on dry-aged beef quality was investigated. Shear force, TBARS value, color parameters, fatty acid profile, and sensory properties were evaluated in beef cuts dry-aged for 21 days. The use of Ilex meserveae dried leaves as marinade at 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0% w / v did not affect the shear force and color parameters of dry-aged beef. The marinating of beef cuts with Ilex meserveae resulted in efficient prevention of lipid oxidation without impairing sensory acceptability. Aqueous extract Ilex meserveae can be applied as a natural ingredient in meat marinade to prevent peroxidation.

To prepare any formulation in bulk quantity it needs a machine. The machines which manufacture the formulations in a bulk quantity will work on the basis of modern techniques. These techniques can be adopted to prepare different dosage forms through their method of preparations. Churna is also one among the different dosage forms which is having versatile usage and need to be prepared in bulk quantity. To achieve this, different modern methods like size reduction, size separation and mixing of powders and techniques viz. cutting, compression, impact, attrition and combined effect of impact and attrition are adopted, along with this sieving and mixing techniques are also adopted. To assure the quality of churna kalpana physico chemical analysis should be done like fineness of Particles, Presence of Heavy Metals, Test for microbial contamination etc.

Composted grape marc, produced at the vineyard using different procedures, is generally returned into the vineyard. Information on the chemical composition of these grape marc composts is lacking, particularly the variability that may result from different composting practices. In this study, grape marc composts, varying in age from 3 months to 3 years, were collected from four different vineyards and subjected to detailed chemical analysis. The chemical analysis revealed that all the grape marc composts contained levels of free potassium, in the range of 2–3% w/w. Plant macronutrients such as Ca, S, Mg were present at low levels (<1% w/w), while phosphorus (0.1–0.3% w/w) and nitrogen (1–2% w/w) levels were not very high and mainly present in “plant unavailable” form. The levels of soluble salts, though not excessive, were elevated in all the composts. These salt levels could cause a problem in some soils. Heavy metals were not present in any significant levels. All the grape marc composts analysed provided some benefit in returning nutrients into the vineyard and all were significant potassium sources.
