Home buying is a very thought-intensive process that entails several factors like budget, locality, amenities, commutation & communication facilities etc. Lately, along with these factors, there has been a sought after “Environmental Friendliness & Sustainability of Homes”. People have started looking for properties that are built with a eco-friendly approach, such that it gave rise to a new niche of homes in the arena of homebuying called “Eco-Friendly Houses”. An Eco-Friendly House, or an Eco-House as it is called, is basically a low-impact & environment friendly construction built with the intent of lessening pollution, reducing the carbon footprint, & thus global warming contribution, of the property, & having a sustainable endurance. To study the factors that influence purchase of Eco-Houses, 478 eco-home buyers were interviewed, out of which the researcher with 430 respondents, conducted an empirical study using percentage analysis as a statistical tool and concluded that there are various factors affecting the selection criteria out of which the most effective ones are features of eco-homes like solar energy plants & wind turbines, rainwater harvesting, planting trees & saplings all across the premises of then property.

The purpose of this study is to assess environmental friendliness of passive apartment house based on major building materials in Korea. To accomplish this, stage-wise quantity information of life cycle and energy consumption data were established on major materials through theoretical consideration on life cycle assessment. In addition, basic unit database from Korean LCI DB was utilized to assess and analyze characterization value of global warming assessment. As a result, the value of global warming was smaller in passive apartment house in comparison to general apartment house. As the effect of building materials in construction stage was analyzed to be greater than the effect of energy consumption in operation stage, development of diverse building materials taking environmental impact into account is deemed necessary.

The refrigerant mixtures provide an important direction in selecting new environment-friendly alternative to match the desirable properties with the existing halogenated refrigerants or future use in the new devices, in which, HFCs refrigerants with zero ODP combined with HCs refrigerants with zero ODP and lower GWP are of important value in the fields of application. In the present work, research on HFC125/HC290 (25/75 by mass) binary refrigerant mixture used in heat pumps was carried out, and parameters, factors affecting the performance were investigated, and compared with that of HCFC22 under the same operating conditions. It has been found that the new mixture can improve the actual COP by 2 to 13% and hence it can reduce the energy consumption by 20 to 31.5%. The overall performance has proved that the new refrigerant mixture could be a promising substitute for HCFC22.
