The measurement of torque via sensors as well as the generation of torque are the basis of many industrial sectors. Within a research project an optical and non-contact measurement method to detect the absolute rotation angle and torque was developed. For comparison with the current state of the art torque sensors a test stand was built and compared to a reference torque sensor. The results of this validation are presented in the present paper.

This article deals with the topic complex of resource efficiency and digital transformation in the manufacturing sector as well as the resulting interactions. In addition to the current state of the art and perspectives, the case study analysis carried out as part of a current study, as well as the developed method for establishing the resource efficiency potentials will be presented. The resultant potential and the digital measures are central components of this article.

Cloud and Fog computing have been widely recognized as attractive solutions in both academic and industrial sectors. Despite their benefits, the adoption of Cloud and Fog computing still have considerable challenges to be handled due to the increase of client requirements. A crucial issue, in this context, is how to verify the correctness of Cloud and Fog systems. The use of formal methods is an efficient mean which provides a real help for the designer to evaluate the behaviour of a system and prevent errors before its implementation. In this paper, we present a systematic literature review (SLR) on the current state of the art in this field. We collect the existing studies on the use of formal methods for proving the correctness of Cloud and Fog systems. The proposed approaches are compared based on some technical properties such as the verification methods, the verification tools, the considered properties, and the application domains. In addition, future directions which need more investigations are presented. We believe that our paper will be useful for industry and academic researchers to understand the existing contributions that deal with the cor- rectness of Cloud and Fog systems. Moreover, it helps them to address several gaps in the literature.

The article is devoted to the development of the methodology of measuring pilot performance under real flight conditions. It provides the basic information on a research project realized to obtain new information regarding training and education of pilots. The introduction is focused on the analytical part of the project and the outputs in terms of the current state of the art. Detailed view is cast on the issue of measuring pilot performance under specific conditions of the cockpit or the flight simulator. The article is zooming in on the two selected and developed methods of pilot performance in terms of the defined indicators evaluated, conditions of compliance for conducting research and procedures of the methodology of pilot performance measurements.

This paper is an introduction to behavioral genetics for researchers and practioners in language development and disorders. The specific aims are to illustrate some essential concepts and to show how behavioral genetic research can be applied to the language sciences. Past genetic research on language-related traits has tended to focus on simple etiology (i.e., the heritability or familiality of language skills). The current state of the art, however, suggests that great promise lies in addressing more complex questions through behavioral genetic paradigms. In terms of future goals it is suggested that: (a) more behavioral genetic work of all types should be done—including replications and expansions of preliminary studies already in print; (b) work should focus on fine-grained, theory-based phenotypes with research designs that can address complex questions in language development; and (c) work in this area should utilize a variety of samples and methods (e.g., twin and family samples, heritability and segregation analyses, linkage and association tests, etc.).

This presentation will report on an ongoing research project about the information needs of microenterprise owners in Louisiana. Microenterprises are those businesses with fewer than five employees or sole proprietorships with no employees. They exist across all industrial sectors and incorporate a wide spectrum of information needs.

We survey the mathematical literature on umbral calculus (otherwise known as the calculus of finite differences) from its roots in the 19th century (and earlier) as a set of “magic rules” for lowering and raising indices, through its rebirth in the 1970’s as Rota’s school set it on a firm logical foundation using operator methods, to the current state of the art with numerous generalizations and applications. The survey itself is complemented by a fairly complete bibliography (over 500 references) which we expect to update regularly.
