Most of the annual reviews which I have prepared for the present journal discuss roughly 100 articles published each previous year in top international research outlets. Even with such a high number per year, considerable selectivity has to be applied – the number of abstracts appearing up to the end of the October 2005 edition of Language Teaching, for example, amounts to 601, mostly published in 2005 and with still more to come for that year. The task of covering 2004 as well as 2005 within the one review, necessitated by personal circumstances, is therefore doubly daunting in its selectivity. For comprehensive coverage then, there is nothing in my view which can compete with the abstracts themselves as published in the present journal.

In this article I consider the issues of temporality and periodization in the ancient Near East under three rubrics: how modern scholars have periodized ancient Near Eastern history, how societies of the ancient Near East periodized their own history, and, more broadly, how they conceptualized the temporal dimensions of their world and mapped themselves onto time. Music Index with Full Text is an expansion of Music Index (formerly The Music Index Online), an EBSCO music periodical database that provides comprehensive coverage of the music field from 1970 to the present. Over 800 journals are indexed, and coverage includes various music styles and topics. Music Index with Full Text has added full text journal coverage from approximately 200 journals.The EBSCO interface is familiar to many users and offers easy integration with other heavily used music databases, such as RILM and RIPM. While the sheer size of citations and variety of music materials and styles is beneficial, Music Index might not be as useful to researchers focusing purely on historical music scholarship. The addition of full text journals is welcome, but the content of the journals varies widely in scope and content.

This chapter presents a method of mapping solution elements to regions of the problem space. Security requires complete, effective, and comprehensive coverage. Existing methodologies can enumerate known weaknesses and common solution elements. But not every solution is right for every situation. Moreover, any weakness in any component, phase, or activity can compromise the entire system. The method presented here helps map solutions to problems, and also brings attention to what might be missing. The approach, called a construct grid, divides the conceptual problem space along multiple dimensions. The space along each dimension is defined as a continuum with identifiable regions of concern. The chapter provides examples of several dimensions and the types of concerns used to define the regions of concern.
