Currently, 128 species of Curculionid beetles (Anthribidae – 3, Rhynchitidae – 11, Attelabidae – 11, Brentidae – 7 and Curculionidae – 92 and Scolytidae – 4) are first found in the Bolshekhekhtsirsky Nature Reserve. In total, 104 species are first found in the reserve for the first time. There are the first record of 25 species, Thompsonirhinus (Maculinvoles) mandschuricus (Voss, 1939), Protapion apricans (Herbst, 1797), Protapion fulvipes fulvipes (Foureroy, 1785), Oxystoma cerdo (Gerstaecker, 1854), Trichapion simile (Kirby, 1811), Stenopterapion (Stenopterapion) meliloti (Kirby, 1808), Eutrichapion (Eutrichapion) viciae (Paykull, 1798), Dorytomus nordenskioldi Faust, 1882, Dorytomus suvorovi Reitter, 1911, Cossonus (Caenocossonus) tibialis Folwaczny, 1964, Rhinoncomimus (Homorosomulus) latipes Korotyaev, 1997, Zacladus (Amurocladus) asperulus (Faust, 1893), Ceutorhynchus albosuturalis (Roelofs, 1875), C. nitidulus Faust, 1887, Glocianus punctiger (C.R. Sahlberg, 1835), Nedyus quadrimaculatus (Linnaeus, 1758), Tachyerges pseudostigma (Tempere, 1982), Rhinusa (Rhinusa) brisouti (Faust, 1891), Cleopomiarus mandschuricus (Voss, 1952), Tychius (Tychius) albolineatus Motschulsky, 1860, Otiorhynchus (Pendragon) ovatus (Linnaeus, 1758), Phyllolytus variabilis (Roelofs, 1873), Polydrusus (Eustolus) corruscus Germar, 1824, Pseudocneorhinus longisetosus Morimoto, 2015, and Hylesinus eos Spessivtsev, 1919 for Khabarovsk Krai and Curculio inornatus Kwon et Lee, 1990 for the Russian fauna.

Aphodius (Agoliinus) guttatus, A. (Chilothorax) clathratus, and A. (Aphodaulacus) kizeritskyi are recorded from Russia for the first time. Aphodius (Agoliinus) amurensis previously known only from the type locality is found in the Lazo Nature Reserve (Russian Far East). All species are diagnosed and illustrated. Comments on diagnostic characters, distribution and bionomics are given.

Twenty species of Orthoptera in 19 genera and four families are recorded from the Komsomolsky Nature Reserve for the first time and only four species in two families are found in the wildlife preserve «Udyl». The species riches of Orthoptera recorded from the natural reserves in the Amur Region of the Russian Far East are compared. Number of species in Komsomolsky and Bastak reserves is almost the same (15–20 species), while 51 species of Orthoptera are known from Khingansky Reserve.

The genus Hartemita Cameron, 1910 is recorded from Russia for the first time. Hartemita spasskensis sp. n. is described from the Primorsk Territory of Russia. A key to Palaearctic species of Hartemita and a review of Cardiochilinae occurring in Russia are given.


For the first time, a comparative analysis of the tachinid fauna of the Phasiinae subfamily of the Russian Far East with the fauna of neighboring regions has been presented. The Phasiinae fauna of the Primorsky Krai (Far East of Russia) is characterized as peculiar but closest to the fauna of the southern part of Khabarovsk Krai, Amur Oblast and Eastern Siberia. The following groups of regions have been identified: Southern, Western and Eastern Siberia; Amur Oblast and Primorsky Krai, which share many common Holarctic and Transpalaearctic species.Special mention should be made of the fauna of the Khabarovsk Krai, Sakhalin Oblast, which are characterized by poor species composition and Japan (having a subtropical appearance).

Victrix svetlanae sp. n. is described from Russian Far East, Khabarovsk Krai. The new species belongs to the subgenus Poliobrya Hampson, 1908. New species is most similar to V. umovii (Eversmann, 1846) and V. patula (Püngeler, 1907) but differs in both external and genital characteristics. This is the first record of the genus Victrix in the Far East.

Hawk moth Sphecodina caudata (Bremer et Grey, 1853) (Lepidoptera, Sphingidae) is recorded for the Amurskaya Oblast for the first time. The new locality is situated in the extreme southeastern part of this region (3 km W Kundur village, Khingan Nature Reserve), in 308 – 420 km north-west of previously known habitats in the south of the Khabarovsk Krai. Overwiew of the distribution of S. caudata in Russia is provided.

The New World genus Pentapria Kieffer is recorded in the Palaearctic Region for the first time. Two new species of this genus, P. ambiptera sp. nov. and P. grebennikovi sp. nov., from the Russian Far East (Primorskiy Territory) and Japan are described and illustrated. Diagnosis of the genus Pentapria is specified. A key to two East Palaearctic species of Pentapria is provided.

The lichen biota of the Zeysky Nature Reserve (southern Russian Far East) was studied in the course of geobotanical expedition. In total 36 species of lichens and one lichenicolous fungus are reported for the first time for the reserve. Among them 19 are new to the Amur Region. Parmelia asiatica is reported for the first time for the southern Russian Far East, Cladonia norvegica – for the Asian part of Russia, Tuckermannopsis gilva – for Russia, Melanohalea laciniatula – for Asia. Four species are included in the Red Data Book of Russian Federation.

An East Asian-Oriental noctuid species Callopistria aethiops Butler, 1878 is recorded from Russia for the first time. The trend of invasions of the southern Macroheterocera species into the Russian Far East has existed at least during last century but is noticeably increased during last 20 years.

A thorough description and detailed photographs of all developmental stages of one of the rarest Palaearctic moths, Menetries’ tiger moth Arctia menetriesii (Eversmann, 1846) (Lepidoptera, Erebidae, Arctiinae), are presented. Eggs were obtained from a female collected in the Bureinsky Nature Reserve, Khabarovsk Krai, Russia. Data relating to specimens from this region significantly supplements previously published data, which was derived exclusively from more westerly parts of the species’ range. Larvae were reared mainly on dandelion (Taraxacum campylodes G.E.Haglund) in laboratory conditions. Some larvae were fed on Aconitum consanguineum Vorosch. leaves and larch (Larix gmelinii (Rupr.) Kuzen.) needles during certain periods of their lives. It is hypothesized that toxic compounds found in these plants resulted in high mortality rates among larvae prior to pupation. Metamorphosis anomalies in the form of larva-pupa intermediates and various morphological defects of pupae are documented for A. menetriesii for the first time. The assumptions of some researchers about the important role of Larix and Aconitum in larval development are questioned.
