The study examined the level of Perceived Usefulness (PU) and Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) of social media within the framework of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) in order to ascertain the usefulness of social media among Pre-service Teachers in Ghana. Stratified random sampling was used to select 391 Pre-service Teachers for the study. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analysed based on descriptive statistics and an Independent sample t-test. This study found that majority of the Pre-service Teachers use two social media platforms; WhatsApp and Facebook. The study further established a significant difference between Pre-service Teachers whose usage of social media sites specifically affect their perceived usefulness and those that specifically affect their perceived ease of use. The study encouraged teachers to integrate e-learning applications like Blackboard, Google Classroom and Edmodo in their courses (using the blended learning approach) as they have social media-like features that students have already embraced. This study contributed to research on the possibility of integrating social media into teaching and learning in Colleges of Education in Ghana.

Information technology and communication adoption, including social media, remains an interesting research theme in this digital era, especially in a developing country like Indonesia. A survey of principals’ perceptions in Indonesia on the factors that influence the use of social media for instructional leadership serves as the focus of this study. Using a sequential approach, 122 principals responded to the questionnaire which adapted the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) containing six constructs namely perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, perceived attitude, perceived facilitating conditions, subjective norm, and behavioral intention to use technology; and seven of them were interviewed to give further explanations on their perception. The different test was used on for the results of the interview for the quantitative data analysis and thematic analysis. This research finds that the principals’ use of the social media in instructional leadership is considered satisfactory. There is no significant difference regarding the use of social media for instructional leadership based on sex or age, but there is a significant difference based on age in which principals aged more than 50 years have the highest average of TAM. From the interviews, it can be concluded that principals use social media for work to make communication more effective and efficient. The use of social media between the principal and teaching staff proves to be a great way for communication and supervision, not only to report on the teaching and learning process, but also other activities such as administrative reports and financial discussions.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the use of social media (SM) and its influence for increasing students’ participation in the quota reform movement at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Design/methodology/approach The revised technology acceptance model (TAM) was used to formulate this research’s hypotheses. A survey was administered to obtain data about students’ intention to use SM. The survey consisted of a set of questions based upon the revised TAM model. A total of 498 surveys were distributed and 304 students responded to it; hence, response rate was of 61.04%. A regression and single way ANOVA were conducted to test the hypotheses. Findings The results indicate that most of the students use SM for academic purposes and to get connected with friends. Among the social networking tools, Facebook is the most widely used by the respondents. Findings supported that perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of SM affect student’s intention to increase participation in the quota reform movement. There were no significant relationships between gender and politics with the use of SM. Research limitations/implications A sample of students from Dhaka University was taken and the sample size was small. As a result, the findings of this study cannot be generalized in other settings. SM has a positive effect in the societies where change happens through collective actions. Originality/value Why and how students use SM has been widely discussed over the available literature, but students’ intention to use for it for social movements has not been studied. This study has made an effort to empirically examine the use of SM in the context of the quota reform movement in Bangladesh.

The use of technology in education is not a fad anymore- it is real and happening at a fast pace. Students are expecting lecturers to become more and more adept at using technology and to make use of the media available to transfer knowledge. Therefore, lecturers in all tertiary institutions have tobecome more and more adapted in the use of technology. In many instances there is a disconnection between the expectations of these two groups and the main aim of this study was to investigate lecturers’ perceptions on the use of social media networking systems in the transfer of knowledge, at an open distance learning (ODL) tertiary institution. The study also investigated whether lecturers feel at ease when using social media networking systems, whether they will be able to find information on these social media networking systems and whether they believe it will be an effective and easy way to present course content. These aspects were tested by making use of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) constructs namely; ‘Perceived ease of use’, ‘Perceived usefulness’, ‘Attitude towards using’, and ‘System accessibility’. A survey was distributed to lecturers, and it was found that lecturers regarded ‘Perceived ease of use’ as being the most important factor to consider when they are using social media networking systems.

This study investigated use of social media for political participation among youths in Oyo state, Nigeria; specifically, the types of social media used for political participation, the types of political activities social media are used for, as well as factors influencing use of the media for political participation. Survey research design was adopted for the study. Data was collected through questionnaire from 322 youths in three Nigerian universities. Findings reveal that social media was highly used by the youths for political participation. Facebook (98.8%) was found to be the most used, followed by Whatsapp (93.8%), Instagram (60.2%), Twitter (55.3%), and Yahoo Messenger (50.9%) respectively. Majorly, the youths used social media to participate in political advocacy (95.3%), political campaigns (91.9%), communicating with politicians (90.7%), political discussions (87.3%), monitoring and reporting electoral malpractices (85.1%), public consultations (80.4%), joining interest groups that engage in lobbying (64.9%), blogging about political issues (64.9%), and writing letters to public officials (51.2%). Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norms, and computer self-efficacy significantly influence use of social media for political participation, which suggests that these factors could be considered when promoting use of social media for political participation among youths. Given the growing popularity and penetration of social media and the way they influence peoples’ lives, the empirical findings of this study add to understanding how and why social media use will function in motivating citizens to be involved in political activities.

Students are increasingly expected by employers to be proficient in the use of social media and therefore expect their institutions to make use of similar technology in the delivery of educational materials. This study applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) in investigating teachers and students’ perceptions towards integrating the D2L system to enhance EFL teaching and learning processes at the English language department, Majmaah University. Two close-ended questionnaires were designed to measure the participants’ perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitudes, and intentions to use D2L. To understand participants’ perceptions and the obstacles that may hinder their use of D2L, an interview with open-ended questions were conducted. Data from the questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS. Qualitative analysis of the interview data showed the frequencies and proportions of participants’ responses. The findings indicated that the D2L system is totally accepted by teachers and students. Few problems along with their suggested solutions were grouped, presented and discussed.

Higher education institutions are faced with the complex challenges of serving increased enrollment levels within tight budgets. This challenge is prompting many universities to explore new approaches including the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle for delivering courses to help extend teaching and learning beyond the classroom. Using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as an underlying theory, this study investigated students' perceived usefulness as well as the perceived ease of use of Moodle in the University of Education, Winneba in Ghana. The study also used multiple linear regression to determine if these factors have any impact on the rate at which students use Moodle. Data was collected from a random sample of 229 students from the Faculty of Science Education using a questionnaire. The analysis revealed that students' perceived usefulness of Moodle and perceived challenges in using Moodle combined contributes significantly to students' rate of Moodle use.

Social media technology has become part of the community needs, not only as a means to socialize but also to support business operations. In the MEA era, the demands of the market expansion of business networks become mandatory for employers, including for SMEs. This study aim to analyze the motivational factors of SMEs to use social media technologies to support their business activities. This study used survey technique and analysis of Structural Equation Modeling  with  PLS analysis tools. The results showed that perceived enjoyment have positive effect on the perceived ease of use of social media technology, Perceived ease of use have positive effect toward the perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and perceived ease of use have positive effect to attitudes towards the use of social media technology, Perceived usefulness and attitude towards the use of social media technology have positive effect toward the intention of using social media technology.

Background: In tourism, globally there is a growing interest in social media marketing research. However, most previous research on social media marketing has focused on large tourism enterprises such as chain hotels, leaving out small tourism businesses such as travel agencies and tour operators. Objective: The aim of this research was to establish factors that influence attitude towards the use of social media marketing by travel agencies and tour operators in South Africa. Method: The study adopteda quantitative approach through the use of questionnaires. Data used in the analysis were collected from 150 travel agencies and tour operators by means of a structured questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis and one-way ANOVA were used for data analysis. Results: The results showed that managerial support and managers’ level of education are the two main internal factors which influence attitude towards the use of social media marketing. Pressure from competitors, perceived benefits and perceived ease of use were found to be the most prominent external factors which influence the use of social media marketing. The results also revealed that technical knowledge moderates the relationship between attitude towards social media marketing and the level of social media marketing usage. Conclusion: The study concludes with these recommendations: Management of travel agencies, tour operating businesses and the South African government should support the use of social media marketing by small tourism businesses through providing training and workshops on social media marketing for the employees to acquire the required skills.

The purpose of this study was to determine South African students perceptions and uses of social media networking systems. The study further determined whether students are making use of social media networking systems, the purpose of making use of social media networking systems, and whether the students believe that it can be an effective and easy tool to use in order to study the course content. The reason for this study was the fact that students now a days are more familiar with social media networking systems, as more technology mediums are available today to communicate on a more flexible and timely manner. The study made use of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) constructs in order to test the objectives. These constructs are; Perceive ease of use, Perceived usefulness, Attitude towards using, Intention to use, and System accessibility. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to students, and it was found that social media is mostly being used by students for social purposes rather than for educational purposes, and that Facebook is the most popular social media networking system to use.
