Introduction. In patients who have undergone resection for rectal cancer after neoadjuvant radiotherapy, loop ileostomy is commonly performed with few serious complications. In rare cases, if this irradiated small bowel is strictured, reversal of the affected ileostomy can have dire consequences. We present a case of a 62-year-old male with recurrent intestinal obstruction after closure of his loop ileostomy. Case Report. RC is a 62-year-old male who initially presented with rectal cancer and underwent neoadjuvant chemoradiation prior to a laparoscopic low anterior resection with diverting loop ileostomy. He underwent elective reversal of his ileostomy and developed persistent postoperative obstruction. He underwent resection of the prior reversal site with normal-appearing dilated proximal bowel loops and collapsed distal bowel loops. He again developed an obstructive picture and underwent resection of the prior anastomosis with creation of an ileocolic anastomosis, after which he recovered well postoperatively. Conclusion. In patients who receive radiation adjuvant therapy for colon cancer, radiation-induced stricture should be considered as a cause of small bowel obstruction postoperative. In the setting of a longstanding ileostomy, evaluation of a defunctionalized distal ileum may be necessary to evaluate potential obstruction from radiation changes.

Reports have revealed the existence of colonic cancer with chronic bowel schistosomiasis. The specie most frequently involved is Schistosoma japonicum. Few cases have, however, shown Schistosoma mansoni as the involved specie. There seems to be an association between rectal cancer and Schistosoma mansoni infestation. Despite earlier studies that refuted any association between schistosomiasis and colonic cancer, more reports are lending credence to the claim that chronic colonic schistosomiasis, especially with S. Japonicum, may induce colonic cancer and the case with are reporting also point to the fact that S. Mansoni may also be implicated. We report a case of a 35-year-old man with a rectal cancer (pT3N0M0) associated with Schistosoma mansoni. He presented with intestinal obstruction and operation revealed a cirrhotic liver with hepatic schistosomiasis.

Bezoars are an undigested mass causing an intraluminal obstruction in children.  Pharmacobezoars are formed from medicines or their vehicle, considered as a less frequent type observed in children. Our objective is to report a relatively rare entity as a potential cause of intestinal obstruction in children.  Here we report a case of 13-year-old girl with a history of herbal medicine intake who presented with persistent vomiting and abdominal distension. She was diagnosed with acute intestinal obstruction and managed conservatively without any complications. The patient became stable within two days so was discharged home. We found that ineffective history could lead to a delay in diagnosis and management. Clinicians should have a high index of suspicion for pica and psychiatric disorders, especially in adolescent children.

Introduction. Acute intestinal obstruction during pregnancy is a rare digestive surgical emergency. Generally, it is associated with significant maternal and fetal mortality. The diagnosis is difficult, often delaying the therapeutic management. It is reported an exceptional association of acute intestinal obstruction due to a band adhesion that is put into tension as the uterus enlarges. Case Report. A 35 years old Caucasian pregnant woman with a past medical history of appendectomy was examined and found with abdominal pain, severe vomiting, and bowel obstruction. The patient underwent surgery. Per operatively, the obstruction was caused by an adhesion put into tension by the enlargement of the uterus. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged on day 2. Conclusions. The etiological diagnosis of acute intestinal obstruction during pregnancy is difficult. Surgery is the cornerstone of the treatment and the management varies depending on the intraoperative findings and the condition of the patient.

Patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) are more likely to become infected with COVID-19 than healthy individuals. The risk of comlications and death in COVID-19 positive colorectal cancer patients is higher due to treatments that suppress the immune system. We discuss a 71-year-old woman with a history of metastatic rectal cancer and underwent surgery and chemotherapy. With no clinical feathers of an acute abdomen or COVID-19 infection. Further researches are needed to rule out if COVID-19 can mask clinical and biological features presentation in cancer patients. Keywords: metastatic colorectal cancer, COVID-19 infection, surgical treatment

Bezoar is defined as the accumulation of undigested foreign bodies or nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract. These foreign bodies can be hair (trichobezoar), fibers or seeds of vegetables and fruits (phytobezoar), or remnants of milk (lactobezoar) and stones (lithobezoar). Lithobezoar, the accumulation of stones in the digestive tract, is commonly seen in stomach. In this paper, a 7-year-old girl with colonic lithobezoar who presented with constipation, abdominal pain, and the history of pica was successfully treated by the extraction of the stones under general anesthesia.

The diagnosis of intestinal obstruction in pregnancy is difficult, as the symptoms may mimic pregnancy-associated complaints. The surgical management is challenging, as the mortality rate of midgut volvulus in pregnancy is high. We report the case of a 35-year-old woman at 21 weeks and 5 days of gestation with small bowel obstruction who presented to our institution with a 24 h history of colicky abdominal pain and nausea and who finally had a successful open repair.

Popliteal artery thrombosis may present as a complication of an osteochondroma located in the vicinity of the knee joint. This is a case report of a 26-year-old man with symptoms of the right lower extremity ischaemia without a previous history of vascular disease or trauma. Plain radiography, magnetic resonance angiography and Doppler ultrasonography documented the presence of an osteochondrous structure of the proximal tibial metaphysis, which displaced and compressed the popliteal artery, causing its occlusion due to intraluminal thrombosis..The patient was operated and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of osteochondroma.
