Nowadays, interest in phytotherapy and ethnobotanics has increased. This phenomenon was the reason for the cultural project “Ethnopantry of Dobrzyń Land”. During the event, the participants explored the knowledge of herbal medicine and ethnography, including superstitions, beliefs, and the role of plants in folklore texts, while simultaneously providing information about stories, practices, and methods of using herbs in their place of residence, among the older generation or relying on their own experiences. The transfer of knowledge between the instructors and participants resulted in a large amount of folklore material. The article is an attempt to summarise the collected data and to analyse them from an anthropological perspective.

Purpose. The objective of the article is an attempt to present the contribution of the scientific journal “Folia Turistica” to the development of research and transfer of humanistic knowledge about tourism, with particular emphasis on anthropology and (anthropologising) sociology, as both disciplines were important in creating the theory of tourism. Method. Qualitative research; discourse analysis; query of the published issues of “Folia ...” – from 1-1990 to 49-2018. Findings. The results of the analysis of the journal refer to humanistic knowledge on tourism studied from anthropological, cultural, sociological, (socio)linguistic and interdisciplinary perspectives. Increasing the role of anthropological knowledge in education and studies on tourism is a chance to acquire competences that are useful in understanding various aspects of tourist experiences and intercultural relations. Scientific journals, serving as a forum for the exchange of ideas, criticism and debates, co-create this process, reflect the trends which are popular in the research community and set new paths of inquiry. The profile of subsequent volumes of “Folia ...” illustrates the stages of development of studies on tourism, as evidenced by the presence of texts discussing current issues, theories and methods. Research and conclusions limitations. The article is based on qualitative and hermeneutic research and concerns one journal, which limits the possibilities of comparing and generalising the results. The analysis allows to identify humanistic issues (including those anthropological) in relation to tourism, without quantitative data illustration of, for example, the frequency of occurrence regarding a given topic, method or theory. Practical implications. The work may be important for researchers seeking information on the role of the studied journal in the transfer of knowledge on tourism. The conclusions from the analysis show the process of including content focused on the cultural and social nature of tourism, reflecting the development of studies on this phenomenon in Poland. The results are interpreted in a broader epistemological context and may contribute to the debate on prospects concerning further development of interdisciplinary tourism studies. Originality. This is the first study of this type on the subject of the periodical “Folia Turistica”, one of the most important Polish scientific journals in the field of tourism. Type of work. Review article, supplemented by author’s empirical research.

Ragging has claimed hundreds of innocent lives and has ruined the careers of thousands of students. A total of 717 cases of ragging were reported in the English print media alone across the country from January 2007 to September 2013. However, the media reports tend to focus on extreme cases and do not reveal the true extent of ragging. Moreover, in the absence of empirical data, it is difficult to understand the processes involved in, and the ramifications of, ragging. This study examines the prevalence and types of ragging practices in educational institutions. The study covered 10,632 students from 37 educational institutions spread across 12 states in India. Findings show that almost 40 per cent students admitted to having experienced some kind of ragging. College-wise analysis of the results showed marked variations in the prevalence of ragging among colleges, thus pointing to the role of institutional factors in the occurrence of ragging. Variations in responses are also seen based on the kind of course pursued, gender, and place of residence of student, thus indicating that these are critical factors in influencing the prevalence, severity and kinds of ragging practices.

Innovative development of Ukraine is possible due to the introduction of an effective mechanism for the promotion of commercially attractive scientific ideas and developments, which are produced at universities, into the domestic and international markets. It is extremely difficult for research universities to negotiate the transfer of their developments due to the lack of an extensive technology transfer infrastructure where an information system would be in place to exchange technological requests and proposals. The authors demonstrate a modern toolkit for the transfer of knowledge and technology, which is actively used by the international academic community and contributes to the consideration of modern specifics in the organization of innovative marketing in research universities. In the article, the authors analyze the role of social and communication tools, namely media and online social platforms, such as Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, or YouTube, or other communication search platforms, including Enterprise Europe Network in the technological transfer of world research universities and Ukrainian university practice. The dominance of positive features in the use of media tools for technology transfer proves its viability for the Ukrainian market. Using the tools of media sector it was proposed to develop a modern strategy for commercializing the results of innovative activities of research universities. The article offers considering the process of bringing to commercially attractive results of experimental research at universities based on the methodology of network marketing and education.

AbstractBackgroundDespite great advancement in treatment of sepsis, mortality of sepsis remains unacceptably high, even with the modern antibiotic and intensive care technologies. Considering the key role of immune dysfunction in sepsis pathophysiology, different treatments were evaluated, but failed to improve survival of patients. Natural remedies have been tested in various studies to overcome sepsis. In this study, we aim to review some of the evidence from clinical,MethodsThe following databases were searched up to March 2014: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Ovid and Google Scholar using combination of Mesh term. AllResultsOut of 95 relevant studies, the inclusion criteria were met for 79 cases. Among them, 18 studies were performed on humans. The most herbal medicine, includingConclusionsModulation of immune system, anti-inflammatory activities and improvement of survival were the action of herbal medicine. A monovalent approach is not enough for treatment of sepsis, we recommend further studies to identify active component of herbal and use them in combination. Also an animal model of sepsis does not exactly mimic human sepsis, so more clinical studies should be performed. With no new drug on the horizon, herbal medicine will be promising for treatment of sepsis.
