The article reviews the biomechanical factors that may cause overweight/obese children to reduce their level of physical activity, while increasing their risk of overuse injuries and exercise-related pain. Recommendations would be to screen those children for any gait or postural impairments before they join any exercise program, and to provide them with specific gait treatments and/or physical exercise programs, in order to decrease their risk for future musculoskeletal injuries and pain.

Background: Sports have a strong influence on current society. Foot posture has been postulated as a risk factor for overuse injuries; however, the link between foot posture and injuries is unclear. This study aimed at checking whether children with pronated feet become more fatigued after participating in sports tests than those with normal feet. Methods: One-hundred five children between 10 and 12 years old (10.46 {plus minus} 0.78) participated in the sports tests. These tests were aerobic-type resistance exercises with six stations at which each child remained for 30 sec. The posture of the foot was evaluated via the foot posture index (FPI) and the plantar footprint via the arch index and Clarke's angle before and after aerobic-type resistance exercises. The perceived tiredness was evaluated with the Pictorial Children´s Effort Rating Table (PCERT) questionnaire and whether or not there was pain during or after physical activity. Results: The variables used to measure the foot posture and the plantar arch changed more in the group of children with pronated feet, suggesting that the feet undergo pronation more after physical exercise. The neutral feet group obtained an average score of 5.46 {plus minus} 1.89 on the PCERT, while the pronated feet group obtained a score of 7.60 {plus minus} 1.92. Conclusions: The children with pronated feet showed more fatigue and foot pain during and/or after physical exercise than those with neutral feet. The type of foot could be responsible for the lack of enthusiasm of children toward undertaking healthy activities, and this problem might be solved via appropriate orthopedic treatment.

Our society is obsessed with health. At every second, everywhere, we are surrounded and overwhelmed by distressing calls on how vital it is to adopt a healthy lifestyle. While incorporating a healthy diet and physical exercise into our routines are the foremost commandments, everything from tobacco to refined sugars, trans fat, excessive alcohol, caffeine, and even eggs are declared public evils. Yet there is hope: medicines will save us! And indeed medicines exist available for all kinds of human afflictions. There are pills to help you relax and forget about stress, while some others, on the contrary, can keep you miraculously alert. There are pills that heal your most unbearable pains, physical or emotional, wherever their location — the head, back, quadriceps, heart, or soul. Though they may cause your stomach to burn, that is easily remedied by taking a complementary pill that will neutralize your stomach acidity with only some minor and negligible side effects elsewhere. There are also magic pills that promise you happiness, by giving you the power to thrive and the endurance to conquer the world. They ignite your hunger for achievement, but also for extra sugar and saturated fat.

The World Health Organization’s global action plan on workers’ health establishes that occupational health services should carry out lifestyle interventions within the workplace, to prevent the development of non-communicable diseases. The objective of the study was to compare adherence to a healthy lifestyle six months after completion of a multi-component intervention with remotely supervised physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic versus a multi-component intervention with in-person supervised physical exercise before the COVID-19 pandemic in university employees with unhealthy habits and predisposed to change. A prospective cohort study following the “Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology” (STROBE) guidelines was conducted, with two arms. Each multi-component intervention lasted for 18 weeks, and consisted of education on healthy habits, Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet)-based workshops, and a physical exercise program. Twenty-one middle-aged sedentary university employees with poor adherence to the MedDiet completed the study. Six months after completion of the intervention, both groups increased physical activity levels, adherence to the MedDiet, eating habits, health-promoting lifestyle, health responsibility, and health-related quality of life. There were no differences between groups in any of the variables analyzed. Therefore, remotely supervised physical exercise could be adequate to achieve long-term adherence to a healthy lifestyle in the same way as conventional face-to-face intervention, at least in a population willing to change.

BACKGROUND Age-related diseases such as dementia are playing an increasingly important role with regard to global population development. Thus, prevention, diagnostics and interventions require more accessibility, which can be realized through digital health applications. With the "app on prescription" Germany made history by being the first country worldwide to offer physicians the possibility to prescribe and reimburse digital health applications starting by the end of the year 2020. OBJECTIVE Considering the lack of knowledge about correlations with the likelihood of use among physicians, the aim of this study is to address the question of what makes the use of an digital health application by physicians more likely. METHODS We developed and validated a novel measurement tool - the Digital-Health-Compliance-Questionnaire (DHCQ) - to assess the role of four proposed factors on the likelihood of using a health application. Therefore, a survey was conducted online that evaluated the likelihood of using a digital application for screening of Alzheimers’ dementia called DemPredict. Within this survey, five latent dimensions (acceptance, attitude towards technology, technology experience, payment for time of use and effort of collection), the dependent variable "likelihood of use" and answers to exploratory questions were recorded and tested within directed correlations. The study was completed by 331 physicians from Germany, of whom a total of 301 physicians fulfilled the study criteria (e.g., being in regular contact to dementia patients). This data was analysed using a range of statistical methods to validate the DHCQs’ dimensions. RESULTS The DHCQ revealed good test theoretical measures: it showed excellent fit indices (TLI = .98, CFI = .982, SRMR = .073, RMSEA = .037), good internal consistency (Cronbachs-alpha = .83) and showed signs of moderate to large correlations between the DHCQ-dimensions and the dependent variable. The correlations between {“acceptance”|“attitude towards technology”| “technology experience”|“payment for time of use”} and "likelihood of use" ranged from r = 0.29 to r = 0.79 as well as between “effort of collection” and "likelihood of use" at r = -0.80. In addition, we found high levels of skepticism regarding data protection and the age of the subjects was found to be negatively related to their technical experience as well as their attitude towards technology. CONCLUSIONS In the context of the results, increased communication between the medical and technology sectors and significantly more awareness rising are recommended in order to make the use of digital health applications more attractive for physicians because it can be adjusted to their everyday needs. Further research could explore the connection between areas such as adherence on patient side and its impact on the likelihood of use by the physician.
