To develop a more convenient electromyography (EMG) signal acquisition system for masticatory muscles (MMs) will have implication for the diagnosis of disease of stomatological system and functional reconstruction in dentistry. This study attempted to design a multi-channel MM surface electromyography (s-EMG) signal acquisition system which has high common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) and preamplifier system. In this system, a USB graphical interface technology on windows operating system was specifically designed and s-EMG data were analyzed by a combination of time domain, frequency domain, time-frequency, several spectral analysis, wavelets and other special algorithms under multi-parameter. Then the EMG data from some patients with stomatological dysfunction in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) clinic and a control group from dental school students were acquired and analyzed. The data indicate that the s-EMG signal acquisition system which has been built is simple and useful in aiding diagnosis and treatment evaluation of temporomandibular disorders.

Surface EMG (sEMG) signals from the palmaris longus, flexor carpi radialis and flexor carpi ulnaris muscles were recorded using an in-house developed EMG signal acquisition system. The bandwidth of the acquisition system was 1500 Hz. The extracted sEMG signal was processed using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The features of the extracted and the wavelet processed signals were determined and were used for probable classification using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). A classification efficiency of more than 90% was achieved using ANN classifiers. The results suggested that the sEMG may be successfully used for designing efficient control system.

Objective: To investigate the action of osteopathic manipulative treatment on the muscular activity of the stomatognathic apparatus by using surface electromyography (sEMG). Material and Methods: Surface electromyography (sEMG) was performed on the masseter and anterior temporalis muscles of 120 subjects (73 F; 47 M), both at time T0 and T2. The sample was divided into three randomized groups of 40 subjects each: control, placebo, and osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). In the T1 interval between the two evaluations, the control group was not treated, the placebo group underwent a placebo treatment, and the OMT group underwent manipulative treatment. The mean value of each measurement and its coefficient of variation, between time T0 and T2, were calculated for both the intragroup (OMT, placebo, control) and the intergroup (OMT-placebo, OMT-control). Outcomes: In 40% of the subjects, statistically significant improvements were highlighted in the OMT. Whereas, the statistically significant results of the placebo and control groups were 7.5% and 17.5%, respectively, of which more than 75% moved away from the physiological range, showing a worsening of the muscular activity. This analysis showed statistically significant variations (p ≤ 0.05) in the OMT group compared to the placebo and the control groups. Conclusions: OMT determines variations of the activity of masticatory muscles.

Measurement of bullet data is very important to the target trial. The reliable signal acquisition and analysis is the bases of the design of weapon. When the ordinary photoelectric target work, firelight or ambient light will bring an error trigger signal or cannot capture the shot off target signal. These may affect accuracy and sensitivity of the system. A system of the data acquisition and process based on PCI local bus is introduced in this paper. The device of hardware and data acquisition base on PCI local bus is in detail. Introduce how to design the PCI driver. This system has been successfully used to measure several kinds of projectiles’ velocity.

The study was designed to explore the effect of concept mapping as an innovative teaching method on senior school students‟ interest in chemistry. The pre -test post- test quasi experimental design was adopted for the study. The population for the study comprised 1425 senior secondary two (SS2) chemistry students in Agbani Education Zone. A total of 189 SS2 chemistry students were drawn from three secondary schools selected in the zone through purposive sampling method. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. In each of the schools used for the study, all the chemistry students in their intact classes were used. The experimental group was taught using concept mapping while the control group was taught using the lecture method of teaching. The treatment lasted for six weeks. The instrument for data collection was Chemistry Interest Scale (CIS). The CIS was validated by three experts. Before the treatment commenced, a pre- interest scale was administered and a reliability coefficient of 0.72 was established using Cronbach Alpha. The data collected was analyzed using analysis of co variance (ANCOVA). The result of the data analysis showed that there is a significant difference between the mean interest scores of students taught chemistry with concept mapping and those taught with lecture method. The study concludes by recommending that concept mapping method of teaching should be adopted in teaching of chemistry as this has helped to stimulate interest in chemistry which will help to enhance their achievement.

This study aimed to determine the factors associated with the avoidance of dental preventive care in high school students and their parents in the framework of The Youth and Parents Risk Factor Behavior Survey in Slovakia, the ongoing cross-sectional school-based survey of students and their parents or legal representatives. The data were collected using two separate standardized questionnaires: (i) the questionnaire for students (n = 515) and (ii) the questionnaire for parents (n = 681). The study group included 57 high school students (54.4% males) who did not visit the dentist for preventive care in the previous year. The control group included 458 students (35.8% males) who visited a dentist for preventive care at least once in the previous year. A significantly higher number of males (54.4%), older adolescents, and young adults (21.8%; 20.0%) were not visiting dental preventive care regularly. Incomplete family (56.1%), stressful situations at home (17.5%), and feeling unwell were the factors contributing to the avoidance of dental preventive care. More than 34.5% of adolescents and young adults were not visiting either dental preventive care or pediatric preventive care (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 5.14; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.40, 10.99). Children of divorced mothers and mothers with household income lower than EUR 900 had significantly higher dental care avoidance in bivariate analysis. A significantly higher percentage of fathers from the exposed group were not visiting dental preventive care regularly (47.8%, p < 0.05). The results of the study can be used as an educational intervention step focusing on the parental influence on adolescent and young adults’ behavior and as a challenge for the improvement of dental preventive care in older adolescents and young adults.
