Structuring and Managing Supply Network

The concept of supply network has extended supply chain across national borders towards globalization. The aim of this chapter is to provide researchers, business practitioners and university students a picture of the architecture of supply networks. By analyzing two main trends of studies in the field of supply network management, components of supply network are classified into structural and infrastructural factors. Also a comparison is made to identify the difference between supply network and traditionally factory-based manufacturing system. Based on the literature review, a conceptual framework is further proposed which describes the supply network from four essential perspectives: Role/function, Relationship/alliance, Configuration/reconfiguration, and Risk and crisis management. After presenting detailed models and decision making areas of each perspective, suggestions are given on some emerging topics.

This paper attempts to understand the role of Indian children in the modern society, who despite of having undergone multiple socio-economic changes, are still trapped in the patriarchal grip. The paper tries to understand the difference in role of children owing to the cultural and demographic differences. In different cultural set up, children are perceived differently. Hence demographic characteristics of children become a basic parameter to evaluate the consumerism behavior of children. Thus this paper tries to investigate the level of influence that children have on parent’s decision making through the mode of literature review. The paper concludes that there is a difference in level of influence owing to the demographic factors, which in turn is expressed and exerted differently on parents to finally get the purchase done in their favor.

The contemporary global area is under constant upheaval also due to the occurring risks and crisis oscillating from natural, economic and humanitarian issues. Within this framework, risk and crisis management require effective solutions, but the scope of the latter is questionable, when it comes to specific questions such as correlation of the crisis management research and the state size. Paper contributes to the crisis management research, with the specific aim to assess the development of small states research within the crisis management research. A literature review of the Web of Science Core Collection database will be used as a source for answering the following research questions: (1) the development of crisis management research, and (2) the correlation of crisis management studies and small states studies. The results will show how small states studies are integrated within crisis management research, and give an insight for future research endeavours.

PurposeThis article aims to explore the tragic nature of crisis and identify managers’ decision-making processes and strategies when they are trapped by events beyond their understanding and control. In this article, the tragic is viewed as the collision of an overdetermined scenario perceived as inevitable, insurmountable and irreparable and the managers' strategies to free themselves from this scenario and divert its trajectory.Design/methodology/approachWe make a crossed literature review between crisis management and Greek tragedy as proposed by scholars in classical literature.FindingsWe make two theoretical contributions to the literature on crisis management. First, we articulate a set of research proposals into a model to explain how managers' decisions make the crisis tragic. Second, we enrich the field of crisis management by highlighting strategies in order to avoid them.Originality/valueWe use Greek tragedy, not as a metaphor to characterize the consequences of crises as the authors usually do, but as an analytical lens to explore their inexorable, insurmountable and irremediable nature and the decisions made by managers that would make crises tragic.

This article discusses the application of methods to enhance the knowledge of experts to build a decision-making model based on the processing of physical data on the real state of the environment. Environmental parameters determine its ecological state. To carry out research in the field of expert assessment of environmental conditions, the analysis of known works in this field is carried out. The results of the analysis made it possible to justify the relevance of the application of analytical, stochastic models and models based on methods of enhancing the knowledge of experts — experts. It is concluded that the results of using analytical and stochastic objects are inaccurate, due to the complexity and poor mathematical description of the objects. The relevance of developing information support for an expert assessment of environmental conditions is substantiated. The difference of this article is that based on the analysis of the application of expert methods for assessing the state of the environment, a fuzzy logic adoption model and information support for assessing the environmental state of the environment are proposed. The formalization of the parameters of decision-making models using linguistic and fuzzy variables is considered. UNSTRUCTURED Objective: The potential benefits of artificial intelligence based decision support system (AI-DSS) from a theoretical perspective are well documented and perceived by researchers but there is a lack of evidence showing its influence on routine clinical practice and how its perceived by care providers. Since the effectiveness of AI systems depends on data quality, implementation, and interpretation. The purpose of this literature review is to analyze the effectiveness of AI-DSS in clinical setting and understand its influence on clinician’s decision making outcome. Materials and Methods: This review protocol follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analyses reporting guidelines. Literature will be identified using a multi-database search strategy developed in consultation with a librarian. The proposed screening process consists of a title and abstract scan, followed by a full-text review by two reviewers to determine the eligibility of articles. Studies outlining application of AI based decision support system in a clinical setting and its impact on clinician’s decision making, will be included. A tabular synthesis of the general study details will be provided, as well as a narrative synthesis of the extracted data, organised into themes. Studies solely reporting AI accuracy an but not implemented in a clinical setting to measure its influence on clinical decision making were excluded from further review. Results: We identified 8 eligible studies that implemented AI-DSS in a clinical setting to facilitate decisions concerning prostate cancer, post traumatic stress disorder, cardiac ailment, back pain, and others. Five (62.50%) out of 8 studies reported positive outcome of AI-DSS. Conclusion: The systematic review indicated that AI-enabled decision support systems, when implemented in a clinical setting and used by clinicians might not ensure enhanced decision making. However, there are very limited studies to confirm the claim that AI based decision support system can uplift clinicians decision making abilities.
