This paper reports an analysis of the tasks included in the Mathematical Challenges book. The analysis was based on the proposals of the Authentic Intellectual Work (AIW). The purpose of the study focuses on assessing the potential of the mathematical challenges to promote in-depth and meaningful learning through the connection with different contexts, and other features including purpose, multiple-solution pathways, construction of knowledge and higher order thinking. Participants in this study were 3 elementary school teachers, 2 mathematics specialists and the authors of this paper; they assessed the Mathematical Challenges through a questionnaire based on specific rubrics. The study used a mixed methods approach. The analysis produced two main findings. First, challenges vary in their connections to students' lives according to the context they come from. Second, almost all mathematical challenges are related to the highest levels of others AIW criteria.

Kata-kata kunci; geometri, higher-order thinking skillMathematical thinking habit, especially at the higher-order thinking skill (HOTS) level, is an important tool for developing ideas openly and diverging. But this is an problem because teachers do not have a comprehensive understanding of HOTS and the HOTS level questions yet. This problem must be solved immediately by providing a complete understanding of HOTS and training them to compile HOTS mathematics problems especially on geometry through the training of  developing HOTS Level Geometry questions. The subjects of this training were 29 elementary school teachers which took place at SDI Bertingkat Kelapa Lima 2 Kota Kupang. The method of this activity is discourse, question and answer, discussion and presentation. After being given training, the teacher is guided to make HOTS level questions on geometric content that will be used in learning and test activities in the classroom. The results obtained are 1) the teacher has the same understanding of HOTS. The results of the pretest and posttest showed a change in conceptions about HOTS which was defined as the level of thinking analysis, critical and creative, 2) able to develop teacher thinking skills in preparing HOTS level question instruments. 3) growing the teacher's quality commitment to the development of students' mathematical thinking skills. Keywords; geometry, higher-order thinking skill

The implementation of higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in science learning in elementary school is needed so that students get the stimulation to think critically and creatively through science experiment tasks. The tasks of teaching and learning activities need to be applied in the HOTS-oriented learning process by adjusting the characteristics of elementary students' thought development, curriculum, and adapted to the nature of science as a product, process, and scientific attitude. This study aims to improve the teacher's ability to design science learning in the HOTS category through the application of participatory training, consisting of the stages of analysis of the needs of the training participants, reviewing the material, designing the tasks of the science learning in the HOTS category collaboratively. Subjects were involved as many as 14 elementary school teachers in Laweyan Subdistrict, Surakarta City. The study design uses descriptive qualitative. Data collection used was a test of the ability to design science learning in elementary schools. The results showed that the ability of elementary school teachers to design science learning in the HOTS category after attending the training had a higher score than before participating in the participatory training.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the implementation of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) oriented assessments on the 1st theme at 1st semester of Natural Sciences (IPA) grade V students at Candi 01 Semarang Elemntary School. This research is a qualitative research with data analysis steps including data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The data presentation in this research is a descriptive text artist. The results showed that Candi 01 Semarang Elementary School had carried out the assessment in class V well according to Permendikbud No. 23 of 2016. This is evidenced by the results of the analysis that show that the questions used in daily assessment, midterm assessment and final semester assessment meet almost all assessment criteria in every aspect, but the questions used are not all included in the HOTS question category because there are questions that only measure low-level cognitive levels. The assessment carried out has fulfilled all stages starting from planning the assessment, developing the assessment instruments, carrying out the appraisal, utilizing the results of the appraisal and reporting the results of the evaluation in the form of numbers 1-100 and description.

NCTM's Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (1989) states that mathematics instruction should reflect a constructvist's view of the learning process, that is, that learners are not passive absorbers of knowledge but rather active participants in the construction of knowledge. Such instruction would approach mathematics as interrelated concepts and skills to be understood rather than as independent concepts and skills to be memorized. It would also encourage learners to examine concepts and their relationships in such a way as to encourage pattern recognition, generalizing, hypothesizing, proving, and other higher-order thinking skills.
