NCTM's Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (1989) states that mathematics instruction should reflect a constructvist's view of the learning process, that is, that learners are not passive absorbers of knowledge but rather active participants in the construction of knowledge. Such instruction would approach mathematics as interrelated concepts and skills to be understood rather than as independent concepts and skills to be memorized. It would also encourage learners to examine concepts and their relationships in such a way as to encourage pattern recognition, generalizing, hypothesizing, proving, and other higher-order thinking skills.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the opinions of pre-service teachers regarding the teaching of digital storytelling, which is one of the methods where students actively participate in the learning process, produce content, and learn while having fun, unlike the conventional methods. The research was undertaken as a case study. The study was carried out in Gazi University in the 2015-2016 academic year. The results of the research suggest that the pre-service teachers were mostly pleased with the digital storytelling task. Pre-service teachers who studied in groups were more satisfied and the pre-service teachers believed that digital storytelling positively affected many higher-order thinking skills, creativity in particular. Although higher-order thinking skills are not expected to improve with such short tasks, it can be suggested that the topic may have a positive effect.

Asking activity is a form of class interaction that needs attention. With the asking activity, it can increase the questioner’s knowledge. This study aimed to identify the questions form that filed by teachers and students in the classroom following the framework of thinking mandated in the revised Bloom Taxonomy and to explore the problems faced by lecturers in implementing the HOTS-based learning process. This study used qualitative methods by applying observation sheets and interview to collect data. The data analysis of this research used analysis of domain, taxonomy, component, and theme. The results of this study indicate that lecturers and students have applied the principles of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) from core learning activities to final learning activities. The form of the question is in level C4 (Analyzing), C5 (Evaluating), and C6 (Creating), but in the form of Creating questions, students still need to increase the frequency in asking. The problem faced is the difficulty in stimulating students who can answer and ask questions at level C6 in HOTS. Therefore, lecturers also try to overcome these problems by implementing strategies in the learning process.

Higher order thinking skills (HOTS) is one of important aspects in education. Students with high level of higher order thinking skills tend to be more successful. However, do this phenomenon also happen in the learning of Mathematics? To answer this question, this research aims to study the relationship between HOTS and students' academic performance in Mathematics instruction. The research is conducted by occupying correlation research method on 41 students of mathematics education in university of Papua who had already completed 120 credits. The instrument in a test format for HOTS measurement has two main indicators; the critical thinking skill and creative thinking skill. Students are selected as research subjects, and are asked to do 9 questions of HOTS test in 60 minutes. The holistic rubric is used to assess the higher order thinking skills of students. The results of research show that these two variables have a high value of correlation (r = 0.814) and the regression equation is grade point average = 2,105 + 0,017 HOTS. Both of statistics show that there is a significant relationship between HOTS and students' academic achievement.

Nowadays industrial revolution era, High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) is part of skills needed to face global rivalry and complex life challenges.  However, these skills incline to be little-mastered. It seems to be necessary to develop Higher Order Thinking Skills from the early-ages, especially for students which are integrated in the learning process. This study is a kind of library research. The result of this study showed is the advancement of HOTS can be done through an open-ended approach. The open-ended approach is able to stimulate the students in getting used to think critically, logically, creatively, collusively, argumentating, until decision making in the form of problem solving which contains analyzing, evaluating, and creating activities. Thus, the open-ended approach is well done in the learning process that can support the development of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)

Calculators help teachers teach in ways thot encourage students to become actively involved in their learning. This personal involvement is certainly consistent with the goals set forth in NCTM's Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (1989). Calculators also allow the exploration of exercises that, although beyond the computational expertise of the students, may furnish opportunities for development of higher-order thinking skills

The new curriculum (2013 curriculum) encourages implementing the higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) approach in learning Islamic religious education in each academic unit in Indonesia. This paper intends to study the HOTS implementation trend in the learning process of Islamic religious education in Madrasas and schools. The method in this study is a systematic literature review. Researchers found that this trend began to emerge after implementing the 2013 curriculum by the Indonesian Government, where the curriculum used a scientific approach. Teachers, educators, and experts' efforts in implementing HOTS in Islamic Education learning can be grouped into two categories. The first is that they innovate the HOTS-based learning process, and the second is those who develop HOTS-based assessment instruments. Several innovations in the learning process were carried out by applying various learning methods, models, and strategies. The application of HOTS-based learning in Islamic Education learning can improve learning quality to be more effective, efficient, fun, and meaningful. This improvement, then, has an impact on increasing the quality of learning achievement. This study provides highlights and helps to understand the results of previous studies that discuss HOTS using systematic reviews in the implementation of Islamic Religious Education in Madrasas and Schools.

The advent of information and technology world demands the transformation of the education system towards the 21st-century education landscape. The Ministry of Malaysia Education (MOE) expects 21st-century teaching and learning (PAK21) methods to be cultured in all schools ahead of Wave 3 of PPPM (2021-2025). However, MOE’s aim will not succeed without the dedication and commitment of teachers and school principals. Therefore, in order to implement PAK21, principals' commitment and teacher readiness during the teaching and learning process need to be emphasized so that the aspirations of national education can be implemented. However, one of the factors that prevented the successful implementation of PAK21 was the attitude and perception of teachers. Teachers who are not ready are difficult to change traditional pedagogical methods to mindful learning which is a PAK21 element. Teachers are less likely to apply Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and prefer using passive information delivery. Additionally, teachers are reportedly still unprepared to implement PAK21 although they have been given training related to higher-order thinking skills in the teaching and learning process. Five key principles based on mindfulness theory have been identified as a significant factor in school mindfulness to help teachers willing to accept the latest pedagogical changes.
