New Market Segmentation Paradigms and Electronic Commerce Adoption

The purpose of this chapter is to offer a better understanding of online shoppers' behaviour, so that virtual shops may improve and adapt their product offering to effectively reach their target segments. In order to achieve this goal, a characterization of motivations to shop online is proposed as a basis for motivation-based customer segmentation. Building upon this segmentation, acceptance models—namely, an adaptation of UTAUT2 to e-commerce—have been used to look further into the purchasing behavior of each identified segment. The results from the empirical study based on responses to an online questionnaire from a sample of 718 Spanish shoppers shows seven different groups of motivations and five different customer segments, and confirms different behavioral patterns in the adoption of e-commerce for different segments of customers, with special influence of effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, and perceived risk in the online shopping behaviour of individuals.

An increase in e-commerce activity has both positive and negative consequences for consumers. The ease with which experienced online shoppers can access a broad assortment of goods and services are likely to contribute to compulsive buying behavior is an example of this. Although researchers have examined factors related to offline compulsive buying, little is known about online compulsive buying behavior. This study examines the influence of perceived skill and knowledge, facilitating conditions, attitude toward online shopping, and actual online purchasing behavior on the tendency to engage in compulsive buying online. The moderating effect of self-esteem is examined as well. As expected, active online shopping coupled with low esteem may potentially lead to a tendency to engage in compulsive online shopping.

Firms’ primary objectives are gaining profit and providing continuity. During the recent years virtual platforms are the most popular and strategic way to achieve these objectives. According to this, firms try find different markets to improve their market share as well as their profits. From this point of view increase in sales at virtual platform depends on customers’ trust upon total online system in the related market. In order to create customer loyalty at virtual platform, firms must build trust between firm and customer. For this purpose, it is of strategic importance for e-commerce to create trust among their customers. At this point, firms have to determine trust and perceived risk related to online shopping. Especially firms which want to operate in internet have to analyze trust dimensions and risk perceptions of customers in related online shopping. In this study, the effect of the trust and perceived risk of Turkish customers over online purchase behavior/online shopping has been presented empirically.

Purpose This study aims to identify factors affecting tourists’ intention of using travel apps installed in their smartphones. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was developed largely based on the available scales in the published literature. A total of 389 participants responded to the survey, out of which 343 valid responses were obtained for statistical analysis. Findings Significant predictors of smartphone app usage intention included performance expectancy, social influence, price saving, perceived risk, perceived trust and prior usage habits. Usage behavior was largely mediated by usage intention, except in the case of habits. Contrary to the expectation, factors such as hedonistic motivation, facilitating conditions or effort expectancy did not impact usage intention or behavior. Practical implications The study gives app developers vital cues on tourist expectations from the apps. Oftentimes, developers tend to focus entirely on the material utility of their apps, neglecting every other factor influencing use. One particular implication is that despite tourism being a hedonistic activity, travel app usage behavior is not a hedonistic activity. Originality/value This is one of the few studies to examine adoption of smartphone travel apps in an emerging economy context by using extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology framework with additional constructs.

E-taxation is one of the most popular e-government services. Most countries are focused on implementing an e-taxation system. The success of an e-taxation system depends on the taxpayers' acceptance of it. The taxpayers' intention to use an e-taxation system is determined by various factors. This chapter, based on empirical data collected from a survey of 505 respondents in Turkey, seeks to identify the factors that influence the taxpayers' acceptance of e-taxation system. It test various constructs of the UTAUT model – performance expectancy, trust perception, perceived risk, effort expectancy and facilitating conditions – on Turkish taxpayers' intention to use the e-taxation system. Structural equation modeling is used to analyze the effects of these variables on intention to use. The results indicate that performance expectancy and perceived risk have a significant impact on behavioral intention and that effort expectancy and facilitating conditions have a significant impact on intention to use.

Blibli.com merupakan situs e-commerce berkonsep online shopping mall yang didirikan sejak tanggal 25 Juli 2011 oleh PT Global Digital Niaga (GDN). Melihat fenomena yang terjadi saat ini adalah Blibli.com memiliki lima juta pengunduh dengan rating 4.1 tetapi hanya memiliki 127.199 pengguna. Penelitian ini menggunakan model UTAUT dan menggunakan variabel Performance Expectancy, Trust, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, Facilitating conditionss, Behavioral Intention, dan Use. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh variabel Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Trust, dan Social Influence terhadap Behavioral Intention. Selain itu untuk mengetahui pengaruh Performance Expectancy dan Effort Expectancy terhadap Trust pengguna aplikasi mobile Blibli.com. dan untuk mengetahui pengaruh Facilitating Conditions dan Behavioral Intention terhadap Use pada pengguna aplikasi Blibli.com. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan pada pengguna aplikasi Blibli.com di seluruh Indonesia dengan 300 responden. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode non-probability sampling dengan tipe purposive sampling dan menggunakan model persamaan struktural (SEM) serta menggunakan skala likert dengan 21 butir pertanyaan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan variabel Performance Expectancy signifikan terhadap Trust, Social Influence signifikan terhadap Behavioral Intention, dan Behavioral Intention signifikan terhadap Use. Adapun variabel yang tidak berpengaruh yaitu Effort Expectancy terhadap Trust, Effort Expectancy dan Trust terhadap Behavioral Intention, dan Facilitating Conditions terhadap Use. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat berguna bagi PT Global Digital Niaga (GDN) dalam rangka pencapaian peningkatan minat pengguna aplikasi Blibli.com.

Online shopping is growing so rapidly and has attracted millennials in various way. Unfortunately, the discussion regarding the adoption of online shopping in millennial consumers’ context with perceived risk application was still limited. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of performance expectancy, expectation efforts, social influence, facilitation conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habits, and perceived risks on behavioral intentions and use behavior. This study also discusses the effect of perceived risks on financial risk, performance risk, and privacy risk. This study can be classified as explanatory research with purposive sampling and partial least square as sampling techniques and data analysis. This study was designed to focus on individuals who can be classified as an online shopper with a range of age of 18-35 years old. The results show that the millennial generation is influenced by the social environment and habits in shaping their behavioral intention. Millennial consumers are also proving very concerned about their perceived risk of financial, performance, and privacy issues when doing online shopping. Interestingly, six of the factors studied (performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, and perceived risk) do not have any influence on the intention to use online commerce technology.

This paper examines the perceived risks associated with online shopping. Perceived risk defined as a consumer’s belief about the potential losses or other negative outcomes from transacting on the internet. Fifty-eight percent of internet users describe online shopping as a frustrating, confusing, and overwhelming activity. Even though majority of the online shoppers have perceive risk, religion, income and occupation are not found to be significant factors in risk perception.

Recently, Financial Inclusion has received greater attention, as it is a key to economic growth and equality, growth of the business, and stability of financial and banking systems. In the process of understanding how technology is useful for financial inclusion, the study tries to understand the elements that prompt the perceived acceptability of mobile banking among the low income and low literate stratum. To explore these elements, the current piece of work utilized the Unified theory of acceptance and use of technology and with the addition of component of perceived risk. The research utilized convenience sampling to collect data from the respondents having Jan Dhan account. The results show that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and perceived risk have a significant influence on intention to use mobile banking among financial inclusion stratum. Surprisingly, the facilitating conditions were found insignificant. The outcomes of the research can guide banks and technology houses to develop a more user-acceptable mobile banking system. Also, the outcome will help policymakers to enhance mobile banking system adoption for financial inclusion by considering influencing elements.

The study examines the factors that drive actual adoption of the four categories of m-commerce, namely content delivery, location-based, transaction-based and entertainment in India. Data was collected from 321 m-commerce users and analysed using structured equation modeling (SEM). The results show that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, perceived risk and perceived enjoyment have varied impact, while social influence has a significant positive impact across the four categories. Further, personal innovativeness (PI) has a significant indirect impact on adoption of all the categories. The study adds on to the extant knowledge on m-commerce adoption in India and provides insights for marketers in devising relevant strategies for adoption of varied m-commerce categories. Further, it provides insights on the role of PI in driving adoption of m-commerce. The results from the study are limited to the Indian context and need to be validated across other contexts such as country and service offers suggesting future research opportunities. Future studies can also explore other m-commerce categories such as government services and telemetry services.
