Project-based learning is deemed to be effective in boosting student learning experiences and performance. By incorporating a blended learning approach, the use of iPads has been integrated into engineering project in the foundation in engineering (FIE) program under Taylor's University, Malaysia. The innovative teaching and learning aspects lie in consolidating the student's interest in playing with their iPad into productive learning by solving engineering challenges through conceive-design-implement-operate (CDIO) framework. The project requires the students to build a robocar to complete a certain challenge, which benchmarked with the public robotic competition. iPad was used for learning, designing, brainstorming, preparing project management documentation, and controlling the robocar. The practice has raised the in-depth learning skill while creatively solving an engineering challenge when they progress into the undergraduate program. The FIE students show better and satisfactory overall learning outcomes attainment as compared to the non-FIE students.

<span>In this paper, we share two blended learning approaches used at the National Institute of Education in Singapore. We have been using these two approaches in the last twelve years in many courses ranging from the diploma to graduate programs. For the first blended learning approach, we integrated one asynchronous communication tool with face to face tutorials, classroom discussions, and a reflection session. For the second blended learning approach, we integrated two asynchronous tools with face to face tutorials in a course. We discuss the theoretical foundation of the two blended learning approaches. In addition, we share insights from these two blended learning approaches, based on the students' data (online postings, questionnaires, reflection logs, and interviews), as well as our own reflections. Finally, we describe and discuss several important lessons learned that could inform the design of future instructional strategies in implementing blended learning in university teaching and learning settings.</span>

Mathematical applications have a presence in an engineering environment; in the particular case of mathematical models. A pedagogic theoretical framework that supports various teaching-learning techniques is constructionism; one of these techniques is called Project Based Learning which provides several advantages. This chapter aims to show the experiences during the course of Mathematical Modeling in a context of project-based learning. It will show that students develop general skills of engineering which includes developing the faculties of memory, reasoning and problem solving, teamwork and initiative and of readiness to take risks. Also presents some of the advantages and issues for consideration in relation to its effectiveness as a teaching and learning method.

This article describes the experiences and mathematics performance of Grade 12 learners selected to participate in a mathematics intervention project using digital video disk (DVD) technology within a blended learning context. Blended learning in the context of this study is defined as employing a variety of appropriate methods of delivery to enhance the teaching and learning process. DVD technology was used as an ingredient in this blended learning approach, since it is easily available and accessible to the majority of learners and the schools they attend. The study reported on here forms part of a larger study using action research methodology. This article reports on a single stage of the action research: implementing a change to improve the situation and observing the consequences of this action. Mathematics Incubator School Project (ISP) learners completed questionnaires with open-ended questions which pertained to their experiences of the blended learning approach. The observations of the facilitators were also recorded. A single school was used as a case study and the mathematics performance of learners who participated in the ISP was compared with that of those who did not. The findings suggest that use of DVD technology in this blended learning approach impacted on mathematics learning and enhanced the mathematics performance of learners.

With the rapid rate of innovation in software engineering, teaching and learning of new technologies have become challenging issues. The provision of appropriate education is a key prerequisite for benefiting from new technologies. Experience shows that typical classroom education is not as effective and efficient as it could be. E-learning approaches seem to be a promising solution but e-learning holds problems such as a lack of social communication or loose control on learning progress. This chapter describes a blended learning approach that mixes traditional classroom education with e-learning and that makes use of tightly integrated coaching activities. The concrete effects and enabling factors of this approach are discussed by means of an industrial case study. The results of the study indicate that following a blended learning approach has a positive impact on learning time, effectiveness and sustainability.

Online or blended learning assessments through LMS-MOOCs carried out in the world of education today tend to be multiple-choice assessments that are only based on low-level cognitive. In fact, to measure the metacognitive of students is quite difficult, if only using the form of multiple choice questions. Therefore, it takes the form of questions and assessments that allow students to explore their reflective and metacognitive thinking according to the characteristics of the education they are attending. Vocational education tends to apply a project-based learning (PjBL) model that requires authentic and performance-based learning assessment methods. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an appropriate blended metacognitive skill assessment rubric instrument for vocational education. Metacognitive assessment was developed using research and development procedures, with students as subjects in vocational education in Makassar, Indonesia. The integration between elements of metacognitive skills: planning, monitoring, and evaluation with self-peer-teacher assessment can be an assessment method to measure students’ metacognitive thinking skills in PjBL. Especially metacognitive assessment through blended learning practice MOOCs that are in accordance with the characteristics of vocational education and can be adopted by general education.

The research “teaching and learning process by integrating information and communication technology for Islamic private schools in the three southernmost provinces of Thailand in the 21st Century" aimed to determine the integration of information technology for the design and development of innovative forms of teaching in line with the current situation of Islamic private schools in the three southern border provinces. The research scope focused on the development process for teachers to develop innovative forms of teaching to enable learners with lifelong learning skills. Teachers also were able to apply ICT in designing and developing innovative models for teaching to meet the 21st century skills. The participation and action research methods were used by allowing teachers to play a researcher’s role in conducting joint research with the team.  Project-based learning instruction method with ICT integrated was used. The results of this research is the innovative model of teaching that integrated information technology to provide students with the 21st century skills which is the 4P-2E model.  The impacts of this research to learners are: (1) Learners are creative, they enjoy the project-based learning and the integration of ICT in learning. Student engagement is the core of the teaching and learning practice in higher education. This exploratory action research project was designed to enhance teaching and learning using a blended learning approach to increase student engagement prior, during, and after lecture and seminar sessions of a module run for first-year undergraduate students. Within an academic semester, three action research cycles were carried out to collect data and redesign the classroom practice. Different data collection techniques were used along with Microsoft OneNote Class Notebook. This article presents three case studies of individual students to demonstrate how the digital workspace helped to develop the practice of participatory teaching and learning during a first-year undergraduate module. This study indicates that listening to students' voices through a blended learning approach helped to increase student engagement, thus increasing student participation in shaping and redesigning teaching and learning to engage them within the classroom and beyond.

Learning to program requires the development of multiple skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, as well as learning the syntax and semantics of the programming language. For novices, to acquire all these skills is considered a challenging and difficult task. They have to focus on both problem-solving strategies and the syntax and semantics of the programming language to acquire these skills. In this study, this article compares the current teaching and learning approach of an introductory programming (IP) course with the six categories of Bloom's taxonomy. The assurance of learning (AOL) process was incorporated in the IP course to assess students' learning outcomes on the basis of achiever (high, medium and low) and performance (very good, good enough and not good enough) categories. The results showed that the current teaching and learning approach of the IP course addressed all the six categories of Bloom's taxonomy. Most of the students (63%) fall under the medium achiever category. Moreover, 50% students learning outcomes come under ‘not good enough' performance category.

Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi (KPT) telah melancarkan pendekatan blended learning dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran bagi menyelaraskan sukatan pelajaran di samping meringankan beban pensyarah. Manakala, kursus Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia (TITAS) pula merupakan kursus yang diwajibkan kepada semua pelajar Institut Pengajian Tinggi di Malaysia. Oleh yang demikian, kursus ini merupakan kursus yang diikuti oleh sejumlah pelajar yang besar pada setiap semester yang menjadikan beban bagi pensyarah kursus tersebut bertambah. Oleh itu, bagi menyelaraskan sukatan pelajaran di samping meringankan beban pensyarah TITAS, pihak KPT telah membangunkan TITAS MOOCs yang diketuai oleh Universiti Putra Malaysia. Kertas ini akan mengkaji penggunaan modul pembelajaran TITAS MOOCs dalam kalangan pelajar UMS. Kajian mendapati penggunaan pelajar UMS terhadap modul TITAS MOOCs adalah baik dan terdapat hubungan yang tinggi antara faktor-faktor penerimaan iaitu Tanggapan ianya bermanfaat, Tanggapan ianya mudah digunakan dan Pengaruh sosial dengan penerimaan pelajar UMS iaitu Penggunaan secara sukarela. Kajian ini penting bagi menilai kerelevanan modul TITAS MOOCc serta persekitaran UMS sendiri dalam merealisasikan pendekatan blended learning dalam kursus TITAS. Abstract: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has launched a blended learning approach in teaching and learning in order to streamline the curriculum as well as to lessen the load of the lecturers. Meanwhile, the Islamic Civilisation and Asian Civilisation course or more commonly known as Tamadun Islam and Tamadun Asia (TITAS) is a compulsory course for all students of institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. Therefore, this course is among the courses that record a high enrolment of students every semester which has led to an increase in load for the lecturers of this course. Hence, in order to streamline the curriculum as well as to lessen the load of the TITAS lecturers, the MOHE has developed the TITAS MOOC learning module that is spearheaded by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). This paper will analyse the usage of the TITAS MOOC learning module among the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students. The study shows that the reception of the UMS students towards the TITAS MOOC module is positive and there is a high relationship between the factors of acceptance, which consist of Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use and Social Influence, with the acceptance of the UMS students which is seen as Voluntary Usage. This research is essential to evaluate the relevance of the TITAS MOOC module as well as the UMS environment in order to realise this blended learning approach in the TITAS course.
