Internationalization, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Poverty Alleviation

The aim of this chapter is to describe how the MNCs can contribute to alleviate poverty and improve the well-being of the workers and communities, focused in two issues: job creation and CSR practices. For this purpose, the authors analyzed the case of the Mexican MNC FEMSA in Latin America. The results show that FEMSA plays an important role in job creation, with around 250,000 direct jobs in 2015 being created with Mexico and Brazil the most benefitiated with around the 84% of the jobs. In the case of CSR, 40 programs were identified under three main headings: “our people”, “our community” and “our planet”. Most of the programs are focused in “our community” (25) and the major receiver is Mexico with the 31 programs, the results of these programs show some benefits in the level of life and well-being of the people that has used these.

Agitation for societal development has been on for a long time in Nigeria. This has made many communities complain against organisations making profits in the poverty-ridden environments. It is for this reason that the communities call on the organisations to contribute to their development through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes. The study employed secondary methodology of desk research technique and found that organisations in the selected industries have contributed to the well-being of their communities. The study supports the position of the stakeholder theory that organisations should take care of all stakeholders and not only the shareholders. Going forward, it recommends that organizations in Nigerian industries should invest more in the area of corporate social investment as a form of CSR thereby ensuring that the people could achieve much needed development sustainably. RESUMENEl desarrollo sostenible es manejado como uno de los puntos importantes en las agendas del siglo XXI, es un concepto que las empresas deben contemplar en las actividades que realizan para cumplir con la Responsabilidad Social Empresarial. El presente trabajo pretende abordar los aspectos teóricos sobre las Memorias de Sostenibilidad así como mostrar que pueden ser consideradas como un instrumento de información de la Responsabilidad Social de las Empresas. Se hace un estudio en la base de datos de la Corporate Register del 2006 al 2011 respecto de la presentación de las Memorias de Sostenibilidad en América Latina; el reporte es de corte cualitativo de carácter descriptivo, con un análisis deductivo. Universities foster a collaboration with industry with their commitment towards society. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices of organizations facilitate implementation of the recognition of prior learning (RPL) in higher education, while creating long-term opportunities for sustainable development. The researchers of this study come from two different disciplines, and aim to embed sustainable development strategies for transforming education by utilizing the capacity of educators and industry professionals, while also contributing to the community and economy. The researcher with a specialization in economics identified the well-being of the community and economy, and another researcher with a design and ergonomics background brought the concept of service design. Results of the conducted surveys imply that a skill gap exists in the labor market and participants from the community are interested in receiving hands on training from the industry. The researchers introduce a model focusing on the significance and implementation of RPL, allowing youth and adults to accumulate credit through non-formal and informal learning experiences. The model reflects how the university assesses the current skills and needs of the target communities, how they are communicated to industry by identifying potential areas of development, how industry responds to the needs by providing training, and how the university acknowledges prior learning and promotes potential candidates to contribute towards industry.

Purpose Talent management is a twenty-first-century concern. Attracting talented individuals to organizations is an important source for firm competitive advantage. Building on signaling theory, this paper proposes that corporate social responsibility (CSR) can be an important tool for talent recruitment. Design/methodology/approach Across two studies, this paper found support for this hypothesized relationship. In Study 1, a job advertisement was manipulated to include information about CSR and tested it in two groups of 120 master’s degree students who would be in the job market within the year. It was found that CSR was an important factor that increased organizational attractiveness. In Study 2, with 532 external talented stakeholders of 16 organizations, our findings were replicated and advanced by testing whether perceptions of CSR practices (internal and external) influenced perceptions of organizational attractiveness and if this relationship was mediated by organizational reputation. Findings This study found that perceptions of internal CSR practices were directly related to both organizational attractiveness and firm reputation. However, perceptions of external CSR practices were related only to organizational attractiveness through organizational reputation. Research limitations/implications The article’s one of the main limitations has to do with generalizability of the results and the potential common method variance bias. Practical implications The findings demonstrate that CSR can play an effective role in attracting potential employees, through enhancement of organizational reputation and organizational attractiveness. If organizations are willing to implement practices that protect and develop their employees, along with practices that improve the quality of the natural environment and the well-being of the society, they can become an employer-of-choice. Originality/value This study expands on previous studies by including an experimental design, including two types of CSR practices and a mediating variable in this field study.

Kebijakan penanggulangan kemiskinan perlu disinergikan dari berbagai sumber daya, yaitu dari pemerintah, dunia usaha, dan masyarakat. Proses sinergitas kebijakan memerlukan kerangka payung regulasi yang mengatur secara teknis norma, kriteria dan standar prosedur pelaksanaannya. Oleh karena itu perlu penyamaan persepsi dari pemerintah, dunia usaha dan masyarakat tentang komponen-komponen apa ssaja yang perlu diatur dalam regulasi daerah. Tujuan diseminasi ini adalah untuk menyamakan persespi dunia usaha, perangkat Daerah dan masyarakat kota Magelang dalam mengelola dana Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) atau Tanggung Jawab Lingkungan Sosial Perusahaan (TJSLP) secara sinergis untuk penanggulangan kemiskinan. Kesepahaman tersebut sebagai dasar penyusunan payung hukum yang memiliki daya dorong bagi semua pemangku kepentingan. Metode PKM menggunakan prinsip transfer pengetahuan dan ketrampilan dari tim PKM kepada aparatur pemerintah kota Magelang. Metode dilakukan memenuhi aspek KAP (kognitif, afektif, psikomotorik), dengan bentuk (i) diseminasi informasi; dan (ii) Pendampingan penyusunan rencana tindak lanjut. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menghasilkan perubahan pada pengetahuan aparatur tentang (i) prinsip-prinsip kolaboratif untuk penanggulangan kemiskinan yang inklusif; (ii) prinsip-prinsip perumusa format kolaborsi yang partisipatif. Kegiatan ini menghasilkan“Local Wisdom and Collaborative Governance for Sustainable Poverty Alleviation Model”. Kesimpuan dari kegiatan diseminasi ini yaitu bahwa prinsip-prinsip penyusunan regulasi daerah memerlukan asas kemitraan, pemberdayaan masyarakat, integratif, dan keberlanjutan.

The purpose of this study was to determine public opinion towards corporate social responsibility Candi Baru sugar factory. This research used descriptive quantitative method, from a population of 367 householders, while a sample of 79 respondents. The sampling technique used proportional sampling techniques and random sampling. Collecting data used literature study, questionnaires and interviews. Analyzing data used descriptive statistics. The result study stated that, Candi Baru sugar factory has conducted two types of corporate social responsibility, namely corporate social marketing and corporate philanthropy. Public opinion towards corporate social responsibility Candi Baru sugar factory has been well overall, but there were still negative opinion of the people. It caused by multiple factors, the distribution of the assistance provided was uneven, the shape and the amount of assistance provided is considered incompatible with pollution and losses caused by the activity of production companies, as well as their distrust of the objectivity of the company in selecting the target activity.

The oil and gas sector exerts a major influence on the global economy. However, its negative impact on the environment and society has provoked increasing concerns about its activities and consumption of natural resources. Therefore, and in view of the fact that Latin America has the world's largest conventional oil reserves, the aim of this paper is to analyse the voluntary disclosure of information on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of oil and gas companies operating in Latin America, and to study the factors that may influence the provision of this information. The results obtained show that although companies in this sector are becoming more aware of the impact of their activity, greater efforts need to be made with respect to CSR. We find that the largest, most profitable oil and gas companies tend to publish the most complete CSR reports.

The Three Bottom Line or better known as 3BL, consists of three elements forming the People, Planet, Profit. Every company strives to always be the best and can continue to grow at a time through the company's purpose. Profit is the ultimate goal of a company, but that goal would not be run without the activities that integrate between society and the environment  therein.  Merging  the three  then  known as the Three Bottom line (3BL). 3BL It can be applied in balance between the elements with other elements through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CSR not only can evidence the company cares about the environment or socio around but if the company is successful in a program that has been planned it can be sure the community will be more familiar with the company is a company which imaged well in other words the success of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a step to implement 3BL with a more robust and balanced impact on improving   the   image   of   the   company   itself   (improving company images). This article will discuss the influence of the three bottom line is run through the CSR program with an increase in the company's images that are conceptual.
